cannot access samba server
I am rather at a loss as things seem to change by themselves on this Vista machine. Here's the setup: Vista client, FreeBSD 6.2 server with samba 3.0.25; also a FreeBSD 4.11 machine (server) with samba 2.2.12 Vista connected to samba 3 with password and the machines were present on the network. Then the machines would not show up on Vista at all; they could be pinged and they could be

re driver trobles (RELENG_5)
Dear colleagues, experimenting with new amd64-based router we found strange re(4) behaviour when working in autoselect media mode: whenever promisc mode turned on, renegotiating occurs, leading to 3 to 45 (depending on STP settings on the switch) network unavailability. Moreover, some other re(4) setting changes seem to disturb link state unneededly (such as ifconfig re0 -vlanhwtag) The most

Any ongoing effort to port /etc/rc.d/pf_boot, /etc/pf.boot.conf from NetBSD ?

Build of RELENG_5 fails in libmagic
Hi, I'm trying to build 5-STABLE, I have cvsuped the latest source, cleared out /usr/obj and I still get this problem. Any idea what could be causing it? How to get djbdns to start early enough to satisfy ntpd at boot?
Hi there, I've been a happy djbdns+tinydns user for many, many years. I want to keep using it, so answers of the form "bletch! Use ISC BIND the way BSD intended" will be ignored :-) Having said that, one annoying consequence of my transition some time ago to using ntpd, rather than just setting the clock once-off with ntpdate as I used to, is that the /etc/rc.d mechanism starts

What happened with portaudit?
Hello, One of my machines I got a report about 3 vulnerable packages (php4, ruby, openssl) in tomorrows security run output, but in today's security run output all of them disappeared, but nobody upgraded or removed the affected packages. I reinstalled portaudit, refreshd its database, but now it reports 0 affected pakages. The pkg_info command lists that three packages, so they are

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators, While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the

Problems with low frame rate streams
Hi, I'm developing a streaming solution with quite uncommon characteristics. We have some image snapshots that arrive regularly but with a very low frequency and we would like to be observe these images a video stream. The conversion to video is easy, ffmpeg can create a Theora ogg stream from the static pictures and I already got it working. The problem is that I cannot go below 4 fps.
