I posted this earlier on IRC, but it didn''t seem anyone was active:

Pupppet Ruby DSL
I constantly get told I should just create a DSL in Ruby, instead of
having a separate, custom language. This has, unsurprisingly, come
up multiple times here at OSCON.
So, I decided I''d see if I could hack something up and see how it
looked. This is the first thing I could come up with in terms of the
basic functionality:
#!/usr/bin/ruby
class Base
file "/etc/passwd",

Problem restarting client service ssh in client
Hello,
I want a simple operation in a puppet node like restarting the ssh
service if it was stopped. My site.pp is simple as this:
import "services/*"
node default {
include ssh
}
The services directory as a ssh.pp :
class ssh {
service { ssh:
ensure => running,
subscribe => File["/etc/ssh/sshd_config"]
}
}
I''ve stopped the ssh service in the

fqdn & templates
So, looks like the latest facter has fqdn... cool. but for some
reason templates can''t access it. I was defining $fqdn in my
site.pp, but had to remove it after the last yum update, which
brought in a new facter package. But now my templates can use fqdn.
Why would this happen?

Modules, modules, everywhere
Hello folks,
At Stanford, we use modules to define every possible service, package,
feature in the traditional sense (apache, ntp, iptables, etc). Then, for
clients (such as other departments) and "services" (such as our mailman
infrastructure, our ldap infrastructure, etc), we use manifests in
/master/manifests and distributable files in /dist/ and templates in
/master/templates.

Questions about modules and namespaces
Hello
>From my understanding, modules are not autosearched. So, if I have:
include ssh
... then puppet will look for a module names ssh and class named ssh
defined in /modules/ssh/init.pp
Moreover, if I have:
include ssh::global
... then Puppet will for class global defined in /modules/ssh/init.pp or
/modules/ssh/global.ss.
Is that correct? Or am I leaving out some imports

problem with remotefile definition
Hi,
I''m exploring Puppet and have hit a rather weird problem.
The puppetmaster server is running CentOS4, fully updated, with puppet
installed from the dlutter RPM repo, version 0.20.0-1.el4.
I tried adding the remotefile function definition from
http://reductivelabs.com/projects/puppet/documentation/installation.html
in /etc/puppet/manifests/utils/remotefile.pp but when I start

Modules Search and Puppet
Hi,
I''m not using puppet in a standard way (ie. in a server/client
configuration), just the standalone ''puppet --use-nodes'' command.
I''m having problems with the directory structure of modules and using the
import feature.
My directory infrastructure looks like this:
/srv/puppet/facter/...
/srv/puppet/manifests/site.pp
/srv/puppet/manifests/libs/file.pp

Managing manifests
Hi,
I was talking to Luke today about managing manifests and related
files, and he suggested that I post to the list..
What would be nice (and what I''ve use in in-house systems I''ve used
previously) is to have a way to dynamically include manifest fragments
at runtime.
Lets assume that you''re setting up bugzilla using puppet. In the
''main'' manifest

"All resource specifications require names": wot?
Hi, everyone --
I downloaded puppet and have been playing with it. I''m using the RPM''s for RHE4 created by David (mentioned on the install page: http://people.redhat.com/dlutter/yum/rhel4/) with RHE''s ruby 1.8.1-7:
ruby-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-libs-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
ruby-devel-1.8.1-7.EL4.8
I''m sure this is an easy one; all the same, I''m stumped. Please

Virtual resource not found
Hi All,
I asked on IRC but didn''t have everything organized and most people
seemed busy. Hoping someone can see what I''m missing here.
I''m trying to create a network module, used similar to the ''users''
configuration described in the Best Practices document. I have a users
module which has that and it works with similar syntax to below. If I

Quote, dollar and pipe
Hi All,
By working on our bootstrap puppet scripts (executed wih standalone
puppet), I found a difference between pipe and file parsing :
A simple file with a content :
$ cat withdollar.pp
file { "/tmp/withdoller.txt":
content => ''something like echo $1''
}
When puppet parses the file :
$ puppet withdollar.pp

Templates and arrays
I''m in the process of documenting templates right now, and I figured
I should see what happens when you use them with arrays:
$ cat ~/bin/test.pp
$values = [this, is, an, array, of, values]
$content = template("/tmp/templates/testing.erb")
file { "/tmp/temtest": content => $content }
$ cat /tmp/templates/testing.erb
<% values.each do |val| %>

New User Problems
I''m trying to try out puppet and can''t seem to get to square one. I''ve
been using cfengine for years and have just upgraded about 80 Debian
machines to etch and wanted to try puppet.
So, I have two Debian ''etch'' machines one a server and the other a client.
I''m running puppet 0.23.2 installed from the unstable packages. As a first

puppet definition
Hello,
still upgrading to .20.1 and i have another issue that puppet does
not regonize anymore my definitions, i use some ensure lines definition
in a function.pp file and since then i am unable to make it work.
puppetmasterd tells me this:
Unknown function sudoensure_line in file

Node behavior
Hello,
I am rather new to Puppet and am starting to test it out for use on a
client''s servers. I am running into difficulty with node behavior. I
want to specify a different firewall for every server. The default
"basenode" works (applies the various files/functions/etc to all the
servers just fine). However, when I specify the following (see
nodes.pp, specifically),

modules yet again
I know this comes up periodically, and I''ve read through the
wiki (including the Best Practices page) & list archives,
but still can''t quite get my head around it.
I see lots of references to /modules and $MODULE_PATH, but
am not sure what these refer to.
Here''s a basic setup I have. Let me know if this looks correct:

scope issue after upgrade
I just upgraded to 0.22.0 from 0.18.4 and I''m running into what I think
are problems due to changes in scope rules.
In my site.pp manifest, I have the following:

include nfsserver
}
node webserver {

}
class cluster1_sites {

certificate trouble
Hi Puppet-Team,
first thanks for this great configuration management tool !
My name is Matt and i am on creating a puppet plugin for openQRM.
The basic framework is already existing and working well so far.
Now, after having it working ok once i now ran into a problem that
my puppet-clients do not get their configuration any more from the
puppetmasterd. What i saw on the puppetmasterd logs is :
