R help search and Java(tm)?
I found this great search source("http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~djw1005/Stats/Interests/search.R") helpHTML() Has (or will) this become the standard search method? Is R 'Free Software'? The dependence on Java seems a bit of a pain for 'freeness'. Did the above make it into CRAN? Cheers, Dan.

high bitrate quality?
Hi all, I used vorbis several years ago because of its freeness and VBR, but after playing ha.org and getting an mp3-capable discman, I switched to APS and API mp3 encoding. Now, I am liking musepack a lot, but the flexibility is more "there" for the vorbis format, including players, tagging comments (lyrics in the comments - killer idea!), etc.... However, I am a bit worried

Bug#344553: logcheck: Fails silently to read config file
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.42 Severity: minor Tags: patch Logcheck does not report any error if the config file is not readable or does not exists. This may easily happen, as logcheck is run as logcheck user and while one is testing a new configuration on live system with running configuration intact. Following fragment may help: # Now source the config file - before things that should

ext3 filesystem corruption
Hi - We have had 3 rather major occurances of ext3 filesystem corruption lately, i.e. so bad we couldn't event mount, and fsck didn't help. I am looking for pointers, that could help us investigate the root cause. In general... We are running RedHat WS 3 Update 6, 2.4.21-40.2.ELsmp or 2.4.21-37.ELsmp We have a small SAN system that looks like this

Upgrade Samba 4
Hi, To upgrade my secondary DC Samba 4.5-16 to 4.8 should I remove the smb.conf file in /etc/samba first? I remember I tried last month to upgrade from 4.5-16 to 4.7 and broke the installation. Or are just the procedures below enough? Create this file repo file for apt. echo "deb http://apt.van-belle.nl/debian stretch-samba48 main contrib non-free" | sudo tee -a

opposite estimates from zeroinfl() and hurdle()
Dear all, A question related to the following has been asked on R-help before, but I could not find any answer to it. Input will be much appreciated. I got an unexpected sign of the "slope" parameter associated with a covariate (diam) using zeroinfl(). It led me to compare the estimates given by zeroinfl() and hurdle(): The (significant) negative estimate here is surprising, given

FQDN nodes in LDAP
Hi, I''ve set up puppet to get node definitions from LDAP as per the docs. It''s been working well, but I now want to use fully qualified domain names instead of simple domain-less hostnames for the node name. I replaced the ou=Hosts entries with equivalent ones using FQDNs, restarted the puppetmasterd, and tried a "puppetd --test" from one of the nodes. However, I

User quotas. A recurring question
One question that keeps coming up in my discussions about ZFS is the lack of user quotas. Typically this comes from people who have many tens of thousands (30,000 - 100,000) of users where they feel that having a file system per user will not be manageable. I would agree that today that is the case however I personally don''t see this as an insurmountable problem. However the questions

R CMD javareconf in r-base-dev 2.6.0
Hi Dirk, hi list, I just ran into a slight problem while building the recommended packages for CRAN in a chroot environment against the fresh backport of your R 2.6.0 packages. It seems that R CMD javareconf wants to change files in /etc/R during the build, and since I am not building the packages as root in my etch chroot, this fails, even if I am using fakeroot. My workaround was to simply
