Manage but don't create resource
Hi, I have certain situations where I want to manage user attributes, if the user already exists on a system, but not actually create them if they are missing. Is there a way to do this? I tried removing the explicit "ensure => present", but this seems to have no effect (i.e. missing users still created). I am running 2.7.9. Thanks, Alan -- You received this message because

How to setup /etc/resolv.conf dependent on network
Hello, I am a beginner in puppet so please excuse my lack of knowledge. (I use puppet 3.1). We have nodes in different networks - they use different DNS servers. I''d like to set up its /etc/resolv.conf dependent on network they are in. What approach would you recommend to solve the problem ? Yet more variable scoping pain.
Some days I wonder why I even bother with puppet. --- classes: - datacentre::new_york - role::appserver - elements::tfel0 environment: production: parameters: < set key/value pairs here > class ldap { < do some stuff that behaves slightly differently between different data centers > } class role::appserver { include ldap } So, I wanted to set some variables in the

Managing entries in /etc/group (membership)
I have a requirement to manage membership to groups in /etc/group. These members do not need to be virtual users. I don''t see a way to do this through virtual users @group. Converting puppet client to servr
Is there an easy way to convert a puppet client into being a puppet master? Here''s the scenario. I''m using puppet to configure all my systems, and would like it to be able to deploy a new puppet master as well. We have systems worldwide so having local puppet masters is very desirable for fault tolerance. So Kickstart (via cobbler) installs a puppet client during the initial

Site statistics
Hey, I was wondering what everyone else does in regards to getting webalizer or other site statistics software to work with mongrel. I currently have a mongrel cluster running behind apache 2.2 with proxy_mod_balancer, but I"m finding that webalizer isn''t too thrilled with that mod. Thanks, Andrew

puppet and kerberos keytabs
Hi, we use kerberos with keytabs on our clients. We do *not* trust root on the clients! One client should never have access to any other client''s keytab. This is my proposed solution to get the keytabs to the clients, any comments welcome! 1. Use file to get /root/.ssh/authorized_keys 2. Use exported resource to let the client "notify" the server that it wants a keytab 3. On

Determining the syslog provider
Hi, I''m trying to make all my servers send their logs to a central server. Which seems quite simple, at first. My problem is that my servers are on different versions of different operating systems. And each of them has a different syslog default provider (syslog, rsyslog, syslog-ng...). Which of course might have been replaced by an admin who prefered another... Even funnier, SLES10

Referencing a variable from one class in another
I have one module, kibana, that defines a file snippet for the apache module to fulfill (e.g., /etc/https/conf.d/kibana.conf). The apache::params class defines a variable of the path of where this snippet should be placed, $config_d. The snippet uses this variable in its definition. However, it seems that the snippet never resolves the $apache::params::config_d variable, and I''m

Diagnosing poor call quality
Greetings list, We have an issue with call quality at 2 sites where the users (4 Elmeg IP290s at one site, 2 SPA942s at the other) do not have an asterisk box on-site. Each site has an 8mb down/448k up ADSL connection and the phones connect via SIP to an asterisk box in a datacentre using g729. The asterisk box in the datacentre connects to our other asterisk boxes providing pstn connectivity

Puppet system deployment hanging ..
We have successfully installed puppet on a CentOS Server, but I am battling with a deployment. It has to do with grid software. The repository gets created, then begins installation. The problem is that it just hangs - no errors, no network activity. I can see puppet is running, but nothing it being updated. GlusterFS as underlying Replicated Disk for App Server
Hi All, We have a requirement for a common replicated filesystem between our two datacentres, mostly for DR and patching purposes when running Weblogic clusters. For those that are not acquainted, Weblogic has a persistent store that it uses for global transaction logs amongst other things. This store can be hosted on shared disk (usually NFS), or in recent versions within an Oracle DB.

puppetdoc - referring to main class
I''m being a good boy and using the puppetdoc tool to document my classes, however I''m hitting a minor annoyance. The top level documentation for a module (let''s call it "example) is pulled from example/README (not example/manifests/init.pp), okay I can cope with that. The documentation for the class in example/manifests/init.pp ends up as example::example (hmm,

How are people using install.rb from the source distribution?
I''m looking at re-working or replacing install.rb from the source distribution to allow more flexible installations, primarily to get MacPorts and Fink packages working but to also work on automatic Mac pkg creation from source. How are people currently using it? Currently the command line options are for options like --no-rdoc, --no-man, --quick, --full, but if you want to specify a
