licensing requirements for using the SWIG bindings
Hi,
I'm confused about my licensing obligation with respect to the Xapian
SWIG bindings.
I've got a python wrapper that sits above the standard Xapian
Python/SWIG bindings, and I wasn't sure if the *intent* of the Xapian
team is that my python wrapper - and any code that also uses my
wrapper also falls under GPLv2.
It seems unclear if the FSF's position on dynamic linking in

R-beta: Characters in .C
I am having some difficulties using dynamically loaded
C functions on a Sparc 10 with R compiled
using cc (both R-0.49 and R-0.50). I get sporadic errors with the
error message:
Error: character variables must be duplicated in .C/.Fortran,
with C functions which pass character variables.
my C functions look like: anyfunc(char **filename, other variables )
This error message appears about 25%

Please start testing for release
Hi all,
We''re getting close to release[1], so I''d appreciate it if people
would start testing the current ''master'' branch with their
repositories. I made quite a few internal changes, most of which
shouldn''t even be noticed unless there are bugs, so just running a
server and/or client under the current code would be a big help.

R-beta: Inquiry
To Whom It May Concern,
I have been informed that there is a public domain software called
"R" which is available through ftp://stat.auckland.ac.nz. I've tried the
address but I can't find the software itself. Can you help me on this. Thanks.

Assistance Requested
Hello,
I am currently experiencing a bit of a quandry with how to specify default configuration applications to generic nodes.
Here is an example setup:
Classes:
Class A
Class B inherits Class A
Class C inherits Class B
Problem:
I have unique hosts (nodes) X and Y and a bunch of other standard hosts. I would like X and Y to be able to override attributes in Class C (thus inherit class C) but

Problem enforcing permissions on remote file copy
Hello,
I have been attempting to do the following:
file { "/home/test/test.txt": owner => test, group => test, checksum => md5, source => "puppet://puppet/files/test.txt" }
At first, this appeared to work, but now I realize that when the file is copied from the server, the permissions are not applied until the next puppet run.
Does puppet not apply the

R-beta: purpose of n in identify() function?
I think I am misunderstanding something about the identify() function.
if we have an example such as this:
> x_1:10
> y_1:10
> plot(x,y)
> identify(x,y, n=1)
[1] 2 3
>
I clicked on two points and identify() returned both of them (2 and 3).
The manual says n is the maximum number of points to be identified.
If I specify n=1, should identify() return a single value?

Is there a limit on the size of a template?
Hello,
I have recently run across the following error:
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/yaml/rubytypes.rb:315: [BUG] Segmentation fault
This has happened after adding a particularly large template file with ruby 1.8.1.
Thank you,

R-beta: lmsreg
Does R have a function like the S(plus) function, lmsreg, Least Median
of Squares Regression? I am using R-0.61.

Re: Subscribe to multiple files - Modification
Hello,
I apologize for the duplicate post, but I made a typo last time.
I am trying to notify the service, not subscribe to it.
Also, I found that notifying a service, in this case nfs, appears to cause the service to load even if the service is configured to be disabled.
Is this supposed to happen, or should the ensure => stopped state be enforced even during a notify?
Thank you,

R-beta: question on dyn.loaded code
Hi,
when designing libraries for R, is it possible to call C/Fortran
subroutines from other dynamically loaded code?
The following example crashes R:
********* fn1.c *****************
void twice(int *i)
{
*i = 2 * *i;
}
*********************************
********* fn2.c *****************
extern int twice(int *i);
void negtwice(int *i)
{
*i = -1 * twice(i);
}

R-alpha: lbeta, ctrl-C and crashes
1. lbeta and beta do not work properly: lbeta returns its first
argument and beta gives the lbeta result.
In names.c lines 245-6, the codes for these should be 2 and 3 instead
of 1 and 2
2. crtl-C does not work (except the first time) on Red Hat elf Linux
(which has many many other problems as well) nor on the previous
version of Linux for Amiga. It worked on Slackware aout Linux and now
works

Serving Samba through a Firewall
All
I am looking to serve a SAMBA filesystems to client at the other side of a
firewall, does anyone know what ports/services, need to be opened just to
deliver the filesystem. The client will initiate the connection and
hopefully use TCP, not UDP ( is that possible)

Some trouble with file and source
Is it possible to have two files that source the same puppet-hosted file in the same File description?
Example:
[ "/etc/issue", "/etc/issue.net" ]: owner => root, group => root, mode => 644, source => "puppet://puppet/files/issue"
Should this work, or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you,
