puppetd port issues
I configured my rsync daemon to be restarted when the rsyncd configuration file changes. When the rsync daemon gets restarted by puppet, it listens on the same port puppetd does, so running puppetd again results in an error. The init script for rsync is small and can not be changed from puppet (all variables are declared within the init script and it only searches for the path where the rsync

Yaml Segfaults on ubuntu puppetd client
While running puppetd on a linux client I get the following, the actual spot that the segfault happens varies, but it always happens. This is on ubuntu with the stock apt ruby1.8.4 package. Puppet also installed from apt. Puppet version 0.18.4 It seems very likely that this isnt a bug in puppet per se, but it is tickling a yaml bug (regardless of where it fails, it is always yaml). But I

Starting out with lots of problems.
So I am beginning the long process of learning puppet... and it seems that I am missing some vital things. My systems are RHEL-4, and i have installed the puppet/facter/puppetmasterd from dlutter@redhat.com''s archive. [root@canopus puppet]# rpm -qa | egrep ''puppet|facter'' | sort facter-1.3.6-1.el4 puppet-0.22.2-1.el4 puppet-server-0.22.2-1.el4 on the client I

puppetrun fails: "Certificates were not trusted"
Hello all, I''ve tried to run ''puppetrun'', but there seems something unconfigured regarding the certificates. The reverse way (puppetd pulls the config from puppetmasterd) works fine. The namespaceauth.conf on the client (where puppetd runs) is configured as follows: [puppetrunner] allow *.abc.net (also tried the calling host: puppet1.abc.net) But when I call

I just started playing with puppet. Unfortunately, it keeps crashing in a variety of places. I don''t have much experience with Ruby yet, so any tips in tracking down these problems would be appreciated. I''m using the Debian package 0.18.4-1. Here''s the output of a couple runs: www01:/home/cwarden# puppetd --verbose --onetime info: Caching configuration at

Question regarding ''tidy'' type
Hello all, I am trying to use the tidy type to clean up a directory that I use for running scripts via puppet. My relevant manifest looks like: tidy { "/root/.puppet/" : age => ''30D'', path => ''/root/.puppet/'', recurse => true, rmdirs => true, type => atime, } However, when I run puppet it

Problem adding facts ...
I have created my first ''fact'', first attempt at Ruby too, and configured the fileserver to server it but when a Fedora (5 or 6) client sync''s puppetd appears to hang. CentOS clients sync and use the new fact fine. Find attached the fact file and the output from ''puppetd --debug --factsync'' on a FC5 client is below. This is a 0.20.1 client and

Problem with adding custom facts
Hi I''m trying to add extra facts to facter. The puppetd is running on Debian Etch Amd64 as Xen 3.1 guest. I''ve follow the Wiki on adding the facts. First I used relative path in the manifest and added "factsync=true" in client''s puppetd.conf. And then tested it with "puppetd -vt". But no matter what i tried, this error came: File paths must be fully

options not being parsed...
With both puppet-0.23.0 and 0.23.1 if I setup just the configuration file puppet.conf, none of the puppetd options seem to get parsed. I first noticed this when monit failed to start/stop services due to the lack of a pid file being generated (and mine is not in one of the usual places). I''m sure that something like the patch attached but I bet it breaks other assumptions :-) Cheers,

Problem enforcing permissions on remote file copy
Hello, I have been attempting to do the following: file { "/home/test/test.txt": owner => test, group => test, checksum => md5, source => "puppet://puppet/files/test.txt" } At first, this appeared to work, but now I realize that when the file is copied from the server, the permissions are not applied until the next puppet run. "server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys, Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file. The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show that it *is* getting
