Until about a month ago both sites were running NT4 domains, separate domains but with the same names, let's say thedomain. We classicupgrades siteA to AD and now need to migrate siteB to AD. The sites are connected with a WAN link We think ,the steps involved will be the following -

AD across sites
Hi Rowland, Let?s say due to number of machines involved, it is not practical to drop them off the NT4 domain all at once. We are thinking are two possible options - VLAN the ports and only allow certain machines to talk to serverb - Or use the host deny and host allow in smb.conf, example Host allow 10.10.10.5 Host deny 10.10.10.0 Preferably the second one Other questions If we have bind9

Numeric ids
HI, I had read from the rsync man page on transferring files using the user's numeric id and gid. I have a user which resides on 2 remote sites, having the same user names, but different uid and gid on both sites. I'm transferring the files as a root user. site A site B ----------------------------------------------- usr_A usr_A uid = 100 uid = 200 file1(usr_A)

Upgrading version 3.6 to 4.4 and Active Directory
First, background information. We are a large (geographically local) organization with 50 sites, including our HQ. Each site has a Debian Server running Samba in NT-Domain Controller mode. Each site is independent of the next, but are all named as a 3- or 4-character site code <http://example.com>. The workstations are connected, and working fine in our sites with the single servers. We had

Custom fact errors
I''m a newbie attempting to get a custom fact distributed to clients. I''ve followed the instructions at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/AddingFacts and based my first fact on a simple recipe. I''m having at least one problem and possibly more. 1) Puppet/facter fails to load the custom fact, complaining that "non- sh interpreters are not currently

Using dovecot with existing mbox hieararchy - possible?
I currently use mutt to read my E-Mail on a machine which runs a postfix server to receive mail by SMTP. Mail is actually delivered to the final mbox mailboxes by a custom filtering script writtin in Python. Will dovecot happily serve mail from the existing hierarchy (obviously if I configure it right) so that I can connect using IMAP to my server machine to read mail? The mbox files are all

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 with Active Directory at many sites
First, background information. We are a large (geographically local) organization with 50 sites, including our HQ. Each site has a Debian Server running Samba in NT-Domain Controller mode. Each site is independant of the next, but are all named <SITE>.example.com. The workstations are connected, and working fine in our sites with the single servers. file sizes different even after successful rsync
Is it even remotely possible that after a successful rsync, the file sizes on both ends are different ??? We use rsync extensively to distribute our builds across all our development sites. Here is how our rsync process works 1. SiteA creates a build #1 2. SiteB rsync's build #1 3. SiteA creates a build #2 4. SiteB rsync's build #2 using contents of build #01 (i.e. we rsync build #02

sourceselect & multiple sources not working
Hi, I am trying to configure a file resource with multiple sources, and browsing list archives and forums seems to indicate that sourceselect parameter with an array for the source param. But the final file gets created using the first matching parameter in the array. file { ''/etc/sysconfig/myconfig'': sourceselect => all, source => [

File configuration difficulty
Hi, I''ve been using puppet to manage a small Linux network fairly successfully for a while now - thanks. I''ve hit a spot of bother in managing some files, though. There are a number of folders in /usr/local that I want to manage efficiently using puppet - for example /usr/local/share/templates. I want to copy the contents of a number of source folders on the puppet fileserver

Samba domain an many sites
Im going to install a samba domain at 4 of my sites but I trying to take of the best way to do this. going to have siteA, siteBm, siteC, and siteD. There will be an ipsec between all sites. In the past if i had to do a setup like that would to a box at each site and from there I would make rsync the samba passwd file to all the sites to keep logins in sync. Is there a better ways to to this?

RFC - file population and basic configuration script
Hi, Since I''m about to deploy puppet on a large number of hosts, I got a little tired of inputing configuration files which basically held very similar information. I wrote a small script where I intended the following: - when you encounter a file that you realize should be handled by puppet, you run my script with the filename as argument. The script looks at the mode, user,

Specifying geographic related facts
Let''s say I have two different geographic sites. They are pretty much identical ie. each site has a machine called web1 which is a web server, etc. Except there are couple site-specific settings ie. outgoing DNS servers are different, SSL certs are different etc. On the puppetmaster I can put in a file called e.g. /etc/sideid which would uniquely identify a site ie. siteX or siteY.
