More on class includes
After some through I have decided that I don''t want to keep all my
configuration variables in LDAP; too many variables and the variables
are too specific to manage efficiently.
What I want to keep in ldap are some general class definitions, like
samba-bdc, and samba-dev-shares, etc. So I build a manifest like the
one below; but there are a few problems.
First, I can''t be sure

Autentication against BDC first
Hi all, I have this question, I ve got a master LDAP server on a remote
place and i want to install a PDC and a BDC and a slave ldap server in
other place.
Mi question is... may I force de WorkStations logging (read the
information )against the BDC first than PDC, so the READ trafic goes to
the Slave Ldap??? The problem is the network avoid READ traffic.
In the Samba FAQ recomends that the:

Building files from snippets
Hi there,
I''m facing a problem that I think it''s common enough to be solved directly
by puppet or at least have a best practice recommended: building a config
file from snippets. I''m thinking for example about a dns zone and hosts
inside that zone, ldap server and ldap databases, samba server and samba
shares, a firewall config and firewall rules,... The first part of

documentation bug?
Hi,
I'm thoroughly RTFM'ing in order to find out what I'm doing wrong
<http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2009-October/thread.html#151046>
and I noticed that links from the *Samba-HOWTO-Collection* to the
*manpages-3* don't work... the problem is that both documentation sets
are on different directories but links don't include a path (nor
absolute, nor relative).

Cleaning Out Stored Configs
Hi,
We''re using thin stored configs heavily to manage things like Munin
and Nagios and we''re currently wondering what to do when nodes go
away, or change considerably.
If we get rid of a server then all it''s stored config is still present
in the database, as well as it''s nagios and munin configurations.
We created a script that iterates through the database

Managing rc.conf in FreeBSD?
I''m, still, working on converting my cfengine configs into puppet; one
of the major hang-ups is the lack of any find/replace in puppet.
So for those of you who are using FreeBSD and puppet, how do you
manage you rc.conf?

share write access
Hi,
I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition:
## Section - [shareA]
[shareA]
path = /tmp/shareA
writelist = user1
and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when
connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for
everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version
is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

class imports?
I have a lot of this going on:

class lighttpd { import "lighttpd.pp" }
class mysql { import "mysql.pp" }
class nagios { import "nagios.pp" }
class netdisco { import "netdisco.pp" }
class nfs_server { import "nfs.pp"}
class openldap { import "openldap.pp" }

But my client is trying to realize all of these, even though I

CFengine into Puppet
I finally got my cfengine configs all objectified and separated into
service-based configurations. But there are still many things that cfe
can''t or won''t do very well, so I''m looking for a replacement. What
about puppet?
I am looking for something that I can use to manage services and
applications, not hosts and files. It seems like puppet may have

pupped on the puppetmaster: cert problems
I''m getting certificate errors when I attempt to run puppetd on the
puppetmaster.
As near as I can tell, this is because I''m using the same puppet.conf
for both puppetd and puppetmasterd; but puppetmaster runs as user
"puppet" and puppetd runs as user "root", yet both expect the
certificates to be readable and chmod 600. I tried telling puppetd to

DesignPatterns part 2: humane class names with namespaces
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Dear list!
In an effort to get feedback and spread the word, here follows the second
article about possibilities to structure manifests. These Design Patterns are
more general than the typical Puppet Recipie and will receive a own page on
the wiki when I collect enough[1] material.
To the meat: humane class names with namespaces

cert problem with client
I recently had a working puppet server serving around 4-5 clients. One of
the clients needed to be re-built and now only that client cannot connect.
puppetca --clean hostname did not work
So here is what I did on both the server/client I removed /var/lib/puppet/*
Then I restarted the server via
puppetmasterd --mkusers --verbose
I then connect in via the client with
/usr/bin/ruby

creation of an external node source
Hello,
it seems I''ve hit https://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/ticket/831 with puppet

I''ve just created the simplest setup to get puppet running.
puppetmasterd runs in the foreground. (-verbose)
As the client connect to the server, the following err-msg is logged:

Recommendation for searching with regards to timestamp & foreign key attributes
hi guys,
I need a recommendation for searching with regards to timestamp &
foreign key attributes. Sounds
a bit too much but here''s an example.
Suppose we have a "blog" object. It has many attributes such as
- title
- content
- status_id
- created_at
- updated_at
There are also "status" objects which have the following statuses,
"new",

RFC: Moving mailing lists soon
I''m about to leave town for three weeks and my home server keeps
rebooting. It''s my mail server, unfortunately, so there''s a good
chance you won''t get this. :/
Anyway, I''ve been meaning to do this for ages and ages, and it''s time
to finally do so. I need to move all of the Puppet lists to a public,

NetWare 6 sp4 server to windows 2000 server using cwrsync 1.2.1
when the cwrsync service writes the files to the server it uses it's
own username and permissions. Does anyone have any suggestions as to
how I can get this to write the files so common users and delete and
change stuff? would the perverse permissions work with windows?
Thanks,
