How to pass strings to functions? [once once more, now With content I hope...]
Dear expeRts,
I fail to succesfully pass strings to functions. It comes down to the
observation that
> plot(someVariable,anotherVariable)
works fine, but
> x <- "someVariable"
> y <- "anotherVariable"
> plot(x,y)
does not.
Does this have something to do with the returned value of x being
/"someVariable"/ and not /someVariable/, i.e.

Optional data argument for a function
Dear All,
I am working on a function that has an optional data argument, just like lm(). If the user sets the data argument equal to some dataframe, then the function should look inside the dataframe for the variables given to other arguments, otherwise the variables should be accessible from what I believe is called the parent frame from which the function was called. I looked at the source code

Recursive directory create
It appears that in version 0.23 of puppet that how I am trying to create
directories is nor working. If I have a snippet like this:
# Set up the images
file {"$git_web_image_location":
ensure => directory,
recurse => true
}
which becomes:
file {"/var/www/html/images/git":

Inheriting variables
I'm trying to set a channel variable and make it available to another
channel:
I thought that if I SetVar(_SomeVariable=SomeValue) or
SetVar(__SomeVariable=SomeValue) then SomeVariable would be available in
the destination channel.
However __SomeVariable, _SomeVariable and SomeVariable are all blank.
The scenario:

Call routing based on remote ip address.
While setting up my first dial plan, I find that notions like remote
ip, network, or incoming network interface seem to be totally lacking
regarding calling parties, where * still seems to fully rely on the
easily spoofable caller id.
Especially, allowing only certain ips or networks to enter a specific
context in the dial plan is apparently not possible, at least in the
h323 world. Don't

Ruby "htmlentities" replacement: code review please!
Hi Railers,
For some time now I''ve been looking for a decent Rails equivalent of PHP''s
"htmlentities" command, because ERB''s html_escape (or more commonly called as
just "h", eg. <%=h @somevariable %> ) just doesn''t go far enough for me.
Back in PHP land, I actually had an extended version of the htmlentities
command to deal with

Samba 2.0.3 SCO Unix 3.2v4.2 and Shadow files
Basically I've found that the 2.0.3 version of Samba is not
supporting shadowed password files on SCO Unix 3.2v4.2. It appears
to be doing it on SCO Unix OSR5 however. This shows up both in smbd
and swat.
We found this out by playing with the newest version on a SCO Unix
OSR5 box. I recompiled the software on that box for a SCO 3.2v4.2
box but was unable to get the resulting binary to work

Asterisk and Fedora
Hello List,
I have been beating my head against the wall for a little while now
trying to get my TDM400 card to work with Fedora Core 4. Not a great
deal of success even after successful builds of zaptel and the other
required componentry. The machine doesn't even recognize the card.
Using Debian it was recognised but as a newbie to Asterisk most of
the documentation I can find and

x4500 resilvering spare taking forever?
I''ve got a Thumper running snv_57 and a large ZFS pool. I recently noticed a drive throwing some read errors, so I did the right thing and zfs replaced it with a spare.
Everything went well, but the resilvering process seems to be taking an eternity:

I''m running Puppet 2.7.1 on the master as well as the agent and just

I''m somewhat stuck as to how to debug this. Any pointers?

rpmbuild --define | some rpm sorcerer around?
hi
how do you pass vars to rpmbuild for definition? eg
rpmbuild --define \'"${_definition2}"\'
I've been fiddling with ways to escape, but none is fricking working..
I mean, rpmbuild rushes to work(no errors nor failure) so if you try
just the command line do not believe it, because later as it executes
%if you will see process does not see these definitions.

[Rcpp-devel] Setting the R random seed from Rcpp
This would be easier if base::set.seed() accepted a value of .Random.seed
instead of just a scalar integer or, new to R-3.0.0, NULL. If set.seed() returned the
previous value of .Random.seed (NULL if there was no previous value) things
might be even easier. People should not have to know where .Random.seed
is stored.
S+'s set.seed() accepts a value of .Random.seed but does not return the

[LLVMdev] Re: dependence analyzer for machine code?
I was searching for the code could be factored out for a dependency
analyzer. The one written by Tanya for SparcV9.
The machine code dependency is necessary for some architecture which
the (efficient) instruction scheduling could not be possible without
the register allocation is done first. For example, the VLIW machines
(most DSP's are). For an efficient instruction scheduling, the

Using Augeas to manage /etc/network/interfaces from Puppet
Hi,
Sorry for the broad distribution, I''m not sure who best can help me.
I''m trying to add a new interface stanza to /etc/network/interfaces.
With augtool, I can accomplish this with the following:
set /files/etc/network/interfaces/iface[last()+1] bond1
set /files/etc/network/interfaces/iface[last()]/family inet
set /files/etc/network/interfaces/iface[last()]/method dhcp
