PAE removal patch for testing
If you're one of the people who has cvsup'd to 4.8-stable since August 8th
and you've since begun to experience panics on a previously stable system,
please apply the attached patch and see if your previous stability has
been restored.
Please tell me your results.
Thanks,

NFS directory copies cause crash
I've just updated a low-volume fileserver to 5.4-stable (as of Sep 13), and
ever since, whenever I try to move or copy a directory onto one of its NFS
shares, it causes a crash. I do not have a crash dump (no dumpdev enabled,
unfortunately), but I can reproduce it quite easily. The client is a
6.0-BETA3 machine, but I have no other NFS clients to test from (easily).
Is this something known

Best Practices recommendation on x4200
Greetings all-
I have a new X4200 that I''m getting ready to deploy. It has four 146 GB SAS drives. I''d like to setup the box for maximum redundancy on the data stored on these drives. Unfortunately, it looks like ZFS boot/root aren''t really options at this time. The LSI Logic controller in this box only supports either a RAID0 array with all four disks, or a RAID 1

kernel: locore.s doesn't assemble (fillkpt, $PAGE_SHIFT, $PTESHIFT)
since august 8th, 2003 the kernel on my i386 pentiumIII won't compile.
the problem arises in locore.s with the definition of the constants
$PAGE_SHIFT and $PTESHIFT used in `shr' and `shl' instructions within
the macros `fillkpt' and `fillkptphys'.
i've tried to cvsup(1) RELENG_4 and RELENG_4_8 every day for over a
week now, but kernel builds (as part of a buildworld)

changes in kernel affecting savecore/dumps ...
David gave me some suggestions to check out on the servers, but so far,
its all drawing a blank ... I have two servers right now that are updated
to recent 4.8-STABLE kernels ... one was June 22nd, and the other was
upgraded June 20th ... both of them have crashed since that date, and both
of them tell me that they are unable to produce a core file, with the same
errors:

Compiling issue on x86!
Hi thanks for your posts so far. Since what I had assumed was a 32 bit kernel which I compiled didn''t work, I religiously set out on compiling a 64 bit version as my system is currently booted in 64 bit mode.
I installed SUNStudio12 on the system and set the SPRO_VROOT to point towards it and when I do a make all in usr/src directory, I get the following error when make cwds and runs in

ZFS Panic after freebsd-update
Hello,
I have not had much time to research this problem yet, so please let me
know what further information I might be able to provide.
This weekend I attempted to upgrade a computer from 8.2-RELEASE-p3 to 8.4
using freebsd-update. After I rebooted to test the new kernel, I got a
panic. I had to take a picture of the screen. Here's a condensed version:
panic: page fault
cpuid = 1

Strange reboot since 9.1
Hello,
Since FreeBSD 9.1 I have strange problems with the distribution. Some
servers are rebooting without any kernel panic, instanly. First i
thought it's a problem with my KVM system, but one of my FreeBSD under a
Dell R210 have the same problem.
The servers concerned are now:
- Monitoring server
- LDAP test server
- Some other servers, randomly (not in production).
First i thought it's

9.0-RELEASE PV from scratch on XCP v1.1.0

* The Challenge - ParaVirtualized FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE under XCP 1.1.0
The idea here is to create a PV FreeBSD VM under Xen Cloud Platform
(XCP) without starting with an HVM first. The documentation I''''ve
been able to find on-line is at least a year old and is mostly written

Secondary Groups and Group Mapping
We are having what appears to be two main issues in our attempt to setup Samba 3.0.0 compiled from src on Solaris 8. We are using Samba to provide Unix shares on W2K clients, and to authenticate against a W2K Active Directory server. OpenLDAP is used on the Samba side for the UID/GID to SID mappings.
The first issue deals with the file sharing. Even if a file gives full permission to one of a

bugged sysinstall, bsdlabel, zfs, gmirror - recept for disaster :)
Hello there!
Here's my story, hopefully some of you won't follow my steps and avoid
some troubles :)
Yesterday I've decided that's about time to test zfs functionality on my
home server PC (i386 FreeBSD 7.1-pre) . A couple of weeks ago I bought
new desktop PC (with SATA), so I had a bunch of PATA disks from old one
to use in server. Lucky me - there was 3 HDD at size 40GB -

Multiple ISDN BRI Units with Asterisk using Bristuff zaphfc in NT mode?
Maybe this is rather a hardware question, but I am posting it on this
list because the probability of someone else of you having tried this is
greater here than other places I can think of.
I have an ISDN card that is setup in NT mode using the zaphfc driver in
bristuff, and I got it working perfectly with one ISDN phone using a
crossover cable and 100 ohm termination at the end of the cable.

RFE to extend "LISTEN" directive to support host-colon-port (as single token)
Cheers all,
A recent discussion in the issue tracker brought up the idea to allow the
`LISTEN` keyword to also accept a single "host:port" token (e.g. if there
is only one argument, with at least one colon, and the last colon is
followed only by numbers, split it into host and port) :
https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/issues/2424
I see certain pros to the idea (may be more

FREEBSD 7.1-STABLE crashes when trying to mount USB device of solaris UFS filesystem
Hi everybody,
today I met the following problems on my freebsd box. I had a USB stick
of opensolaris bootable USB image and tried to mount it on my fbsd box.
The first time, when I tried to mount the usb device, my system freezed
and then rebooted giving me one core in my dumpdev. When I tried to redo
the mounting, the kernel informed me that the filesystem needed to be
fsck'd before

process termination after ssh exit
Hello list,
I observed a problem with interactive bash script executed by ssh: when I
pressed <Ctrl+C>, ssh was killed on client side, but script remained active
in remote machine and didn't receive signal INT.
Using option -t gives no problem like that, but should it be perceived as a
normal behaviour in case without -t?
Please send a reply to my address too...

Filter files received on scp server
Hey,
So, I would be looking at type A. Forgive me if my understanding of how OpenSSH operates is not reflective of reality. I am assuming that, the file transfer is happening somewhat logically, with a name being known, content written, blah blah.
>From reading scp.c, it appears that, the client end at least knows the file name so I must assume the server end must be given it.
I am hoping to
