ASUS P4P8x with Intel 865P chipset Boot problems
I have just aquired a few systems based around ASUS P4P8x motherboard with Intel 865P chipset. Attempt to install both 5.1-R and 4.8-20030810 snap have failed. I've turned off every onboard device in the BIOS that is possible. During the install of 5.1 the system hangs at acpi_cpu0: throttling enabled: 8 steps (100% to 12.5%), currently 100%. ad4: DMA limited to UDMA33, non ATA66 cable or

motherboard to use with CentOS 3
I'm about to build a server. I want to use a P4, and have lotsa RAM, I don't need audio, I do want to do RAID, but I'll do software RAID if hw isn't available for IDE. the RH hardware list seems rather woefully out of date, does anyone have any recommendations for a good motherboard guaranteed to work? I'm looking at ASUS P4P800-E-deluxe which has a driver on the ASUS site

:: BIOS Motherboard Settings ::
I am using an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe which is a motherboard that has been tested with Asterisk. I am unsure about the PCI slot and IRQ settings in the BIOS and am having problems with a WCFXO card sharing with other devices. Any suggestions on the settings required for Asterisk to avoid IRQ conflicts? Thanks :) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Boot problem on a P4P800-based computer
Hello all, I tried sending this message to freebsd-config and freebsd-install, after subscribing to them, but no one answered back... so I am posting my question here. I just downloaded ISO images for 4.8-RELEASE, and prepared them for installation on an brand new ASUS P4P800-based computer. More information about this motherboard and integrated peripherals list, can be found here:

The semaphore timeout period has expired
Hello Hamish. I found your message just googling for Suse and sk98lin. Did you solve your problem? I had the same case and only way to restore was to change NIS driver speed settings from AUTO to 10Mb. And it was not related to OS as the same problem is in WXP ( I have dual boot, ASUS P4P800, integrated GB NIS ). Oleg.

Booting LINUX from external USB Hard Drive
Hi, I would like to boot a LINUX system from an external USB Hard Drive. Motherboard (ASUS P4P800) supports boot from USB with or without floppy emulation. Is it possible to use syslinux for booting without any floppy or CD, just from the external USB drive? Regards... Bela

Is my card bad?
Hi, I have a 1 port T1 card in an asus p4p800-vm board with a 2.0g Celeron, and 512m of 266mhz ram (256 on each channel). This board has video, Ethernet, and serial ata all on-board, I got it because of that, there wouldn't be anything else on the pci bus that would mess with the zaptel card(s). So, here's my problem. I'm running redhat 9 with kernel 2.4.20-20.9. I can load the

FreeBSD and serial ata
Dear List, This is my second post since I did not receive any answers the first time. I have P4P800-VM motherboard with serial ata controlers (ICH5) and serial ata discs. I managed to install FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE on this box when setting the IDE controller in legacy mode. Everything works normal except when booting, the drives are set into UDMA33 mode: atapci0: <Intel ICH5 SATA150

CentOS 4 and Intel P4 without Hyper-Threading vs. Intel P4 with Hyper-Threading
Hello Does anyone know of any possible concerns in moving a "production" CentOS 4 install from one machine to another where the "only" difference is that the processor changes from a 1.8 Intel P4 "without" Hyper-Threading to a 3.0 Intel P4 "with" Hyper-Threading ? I am guessing not, yet I "have to" ask. Regards, - rh

centos 4 installed on P4 won't boot on P3
Hi, I installed centos 4 on a P4, configured it (and it booted fine here) then sent it to the DC to be put in a P3 but it won't boot, displays GRUB and halts. The DC guys tried grub-install in rescue mode but still the same. Any clues? Is there some difference between P3 and P4? thanks tom

Proposal for a LLVM front-end for P4 language
Dear community, We, a team at IIT Hyderabad are developing an LLVM front end for a networking language called P4 (https://p4.org/). Our work aims to enable LLVM based optimizations for P4. As the P4 language was designed to target many different switch architectures, we feel that P4 can comfortably fit in the LLVM framework where adding targets is more structured. The existing open-source P4

ASUS P4-TE
Hi all! I'm trying to install a suse-linux via network on a machine with a asus p4te-mainboard (BIOS-rev 1005). There is a known problem with some screwed up bios call that locks up the fdc which got "worked around" in recent kernel versions. I'm depending on the floppy because there is a file on it which is read during installation.

Hyperthreaded P4 processor count
I have three different live-CD distributions that give me different numbers for the cpu count on this box (Dell P4 2.4GHz). -the Knoppix 3.3 (11-19-03) says 1 processor (no error); -the PHLAK 0.2 distribution say 1 processor (and 1 missing) -the Local Area Security distro says two processors (identicle P4s). Might there be somthing new in 2.0.8 that accounts for this difference. Is there a

2.4 Kernel and Hyperthreading (was Re: P4 processor
>but if I disable hyperthreading (noht on the kernel line in lilo/grub) Could the same result could be obtained if hyperthreading is disabled from the BIOS ? Supermicro Motherboards (most Phoneix based) have this option Also, would we see same pops and clicks in a dual CPU box (Zeon) then ? OT: P4 Vs Xeon for Linux
I have just had delivered a new HP Proliant server and it is based on an Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processor. On site already we have an Acer Altos G310 with a P4 2.8GHz processor. The new HP server was destined for another site with about 30 persons to service some simple file and print sharing and to manage their email (postfix + MailScanner). The Acer is hosting our Intranet, file and print sharing

Re: System hangs while creating DomU on P4 [SOLVED]

I''d been running on it just fine, but I decided to see how performance would be with and without hyperthreading enabled. So I went into the system setup and disabled hyperthreading. Via 4610 RAID chipset on ASUS P4P800 under CentOS 4.1
Has anyone had any success getting this chipset's ATA RAID controller to appear under CentOS 4.1? If so, can they break it down for me in easy to understand steps? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Additions: Boot problem on a P4P800-based computer
Hi again, Anyone has an idea how to debug this problem? I tried nearly everything possible, including disabling devices in the BIOS and in CLI mode. I even replaced the CD-ROM drive with another one, just in case it is faulty. The problem persists... The thing that is hanging the probing session comes after PLIP. That's where the boot process always stops... Next thing is to remove the hard

Comments? Supermicro P4SGE P4 FCPGA MB and Digium cards
I'm wondering if anyone has had any good/bad/indifferent experiences with Supermicro P4SGE P4 FCPGA motherboards and Digium cards? I'm looking to use this MB in an E100P E1 card solution, and I haven't had the ability to test with that configuration before I ship a system overseas (since I don't have an E1 to plug into it, it's hard for me to test, and I don't have
