FreeBSD STABLE support for new motherboards
During the last two weeks there has been some discussion in
freebsd-questions and freebsd-stable about the prospects of FreeBSD
support for some motherboard devices associated with the Intel
865PE/875P and ICH5/ICH5R support chips now showing up in recent
motherboard designs. The 865PE/875P chips are called MCH (memory
controller hub) or "northbridge" chips. The ICH5/ICH5R chips are

4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE hangs during boot
I just noticed the 4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE and made a set of
installation boot floppies from it to see which of the devices
in my new PC the PRERELEASE would support.
It wedged hard during the boot autoconfiguration monologue,
just after typing these lines on the console:
atapci0: <Intel ICH5 ATA100 controller> port 0xf000-0xf00f,0-0x3,0-0x7,0-0x3,0-0x7 irq 0 at device 31.1 on pci0

FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
A few hours ago I downloaded .../i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.9-RC1-i386-disc1.iso
and made kern/mfsroot floppies from it. If I enable my ICH5R SATA
controller in "native" mode, the 4.9-RC1 GENERIC kernel hangs solidly
(only the system reset button can unwedge it) during device configuration.
The last line of bootstrap monologue written by the kernel is:

UFS file system problem in either stable or current
There seems to be an inconsistency between release 4.9-RC and 5.1 ufs
support. If I fsck the same ufs (type 1 of course) file system on
both releases, each claims that the other has left incorrect
summary data in the superblock. Presumably only one can be correct.
I just don't know which to blame.
I couldn't find a FreeBSD problem report about bad summary data.
I will submit one, but

CentOS 5 sound problems on ICH5
Hi
I have installed CentOS 5 on my computer which has an Intel ICH5 sound
chip. The card appears as it should, and I can adjust the volume just
fine. However, when I try to play a sound file(.ogg for instance),
rhythmbox plays through the file, but no sound is heard. I've tried as
root, and I've tried doing cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp, and it's all quiet.

kern/55094: Intel USB 2.0 unrecognized (partial patch provided)
Saw your post on -stable about this, and decided to take a look since I'm
about to get my hands on a similar (82801DB) motherboard.
If it's the USB 2.0 controller that's isn't being detected, shouldn't ehci by
patched instead of uhci...? You may want to give the attached, completely
untested, patch a try. I.e. it compiles on my box, but I don't have any

Covad anyone ...
Has anyone done any integration work with Covad's hosted solution ? I
am considering Covad's hosted solution and want to be able to use
Asterisk to develop some other apps. Anyone else tried this ? how did
Covad react. I know they use MGCP.
Another thing, the Cisco reseller rep tells me if I have a bunch of
7960's setup for MGCP (for use with Covad) I will need to get these

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Still ATAPICAM Lockup/Slowdown]]
Thomas,
Have spoken to Soren, from my bootlog he believes that the problem is in
atapicam causing the system to lock up. He is happy to answer some
questions but doesnt have time to delve into atapicam himself.
Did you author atapicam, I have seen your name on the sourcecode, can
you help me further? Whats next?
Thanks Adam.

FreeBSD and serial ata
Dear List,
This is my second post since I did not receive
any answers the first time.
I have P4P800-VM motherboard with serial ata
controlers (ICH5) and serial ata discs. I managed
to install FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE on this box when
setting the IDE controller in legacy mode.
Everything works normal except when booting,
the drives are set into UDMA33 mode:

boot problem in HP Proliant ML370 G4
Hi,
I have strange problem when booting FreeBSD-6.x in HP Proliant ML370 G4.
The problem is "-" appears on the screen and it never boots unless
somebody hits the
"Enter" key. Sometimes even PS2 keyboard doesn't respond during that
time. Tried with
USB keyboard, same problem.
The machine has dual Xeon 3.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM and LSI Logic

Do I have to worry about interrupt sharing here?
Hello
I am using a Junghanns QuadBRI ISDN card - the module name is qozap. If I like at my interrupt assignment, qozap is sharing interrupt 10 with libata and uhci_hcd.
I think libata is the IDE hard drive module and uhci_hcd is a USB module.

linux:~ # cat /proc/interrupts

Serverworks HT1000 chipset drivers (Supermicro H8SSL motherboard)
Anyone using boards with this chipset? I've gotten some dual core
single cpu boxes along with the physical dual cpu boxes I just received
and they're using the Serverworks HT1000 (Broadcom 5785) chipset. My
CentOS 4.2 DVD doesn't want to recognize the chipset so I can't see any
of the SATA drives in the integrated SATA ports. Drives on 3Ware cards
work as expected, but I

P4 Motherboard/Chipset Recomendations
I'm looking at deploying a new set of servers based around Intel P4 800MHZ FSB
processors.
Currently I'm looking at the following 2 motherboards and I'm wondering how
well supported they are under -STABLE (specificaly the ATA and LAN as well as
text mode video)
Model Chipset
ASUS P4P8X Intel 865P
ASUS P4P800 Intel 865PE
Also I'm looking for recommendations on Dual Xeon

Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
What about the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard? It has 7 SATA ports,
supports ECC memory, socket AM2, generally looks very attractive for
my home storage server. Except that it, and the nvidia nForce 570-SLI
it''s built on, don''t seem to be on the HCL. I''m hoping that''s just
"yet", not reported yet. Anybody run Solaris on it? Or at least on

T-1 vs channelised T-1?
OK. Now I show my ignorance.
What's the difference between a T-1 and a channelised T-1? I see that
Covad's voip service (formerly GoBeam) requires a channelised T-1. Then
I read recently on the list that many T-1s being installed are actually
HDSL....which would be not a T-1 at all...right?

not sharing IRQ's
I'm not having any trouble with interrupts, but here's my
/proc/interrupts on Fedora Core 2 on a hyper-threading CPU and using the
SMP kernel (2.6.5-1.138). I don't think I need to worry about uhci_hcd,
nothing is plugged into USB, but libata is the disk driver. How do I
get libata and wctdm to use different interrupts?
