Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone, Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy. I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found a great 1U case

Samba - Performance Issues
Hello Guys, I am having some problems with configuring SAMBA with regards to performance. We are running SAMBA 2.2.3a on Dual PIII 1Ghz machines with 512MB of RAM. The server is running on a default server installation of Red Hat 7.2. We have a 500Gb RAID 5 drive using the Promise SX6000 Raid controller. Currently we are only getting a throughput of ~5MB/S for writes and ~13MB/S for reads.

Promise EX16650 under 5.2?
Does anyone have experience using the Supertrak EX16650 sas controller under Centos 5.2? The Promise website claims RHEL 5.2 support was added Sept '08. I figure the card might very well be detected, but how about the management gui - it appears to use some sort of web interface, but the card has no ethernet jack, so it must rely on some special driver to access this? Any information is

MFA variables graph, filtered by separate.analyses
Hi Gavin, I can't work through this right now, but I would start by looking at the 'hetcor' package to get the correlations, or if they are already in the return object, build a plot from these. MFA variables graph, filtered by separate.analyses
Hi! Apologies if this is not the correct place to ask. I am attempting a MFA analysis of a dataset based on wine chemical and sensory analysis, based on the STHDA tutorial [1]. (I am using this dataset here too, as an example dataset to work on without posting my actual data. I've tried this with both my data and the example data, with the exact same results.) The only issue I am having is

MFA 2FA TOTP razz-ma-tazz!
I'd like to start offering my server's users multi-factor authentication. Right now, I funnel all authentication through dovecot. Before I get too far down the fantasy design path, I'm wondering if anyone else has already done this and could share some details or code. (I loaded up the subject line with acronyms to show how serious I am. :-)) I am specifically thinking of

Dear gavin, I think that it's likely that Jim meant the hetcor() function in the polycor package. command-line flac tool to report song length?
I've got a bunch of flac files and need to report their length. With MP3s, you use `mp3info -x $filename` But is there a way to find out the length (minutes:seconds or just seconds) of a flac audio file, without converting it to WAV first? CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
> Actually, I was more interested in how you set up the disk array. I think we just set up 3ware IDE raid cards with 200-gig drives, all on 1 PC for now (3/4 slots) and seems to work OK. No case would fit them so it's just sprawled out on a desk away from everything else with 4 power supplies powering the drives. When it's time to buy more disks then I'll have to set up a

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang - Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock. Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000. Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving. I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but

Help using --exclude
I'm running rsync v2.5.5 on FreeBSD 4.6.2-RELEASE. I'm using rsync to mirror the home directories of user's desktop machines. I would like to exclude the cache of browsers such as mozilla or netscape. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the right syntax for the --exclude option. I hope someone can give me some insight. The command I'm using is: rsync --archive

Freebsd 7.0-RELEASE-p3 panics
Hello, I've been having spurrious crash troubles with this box a while now and I haven't been able to figure out why. I've ran a couple memtest passes on it and it didn't pick up anything. Here's a backtrace I've been able to obtain. The kernel config is at the end. It's the generic kernel with ULE. I'm following chapter 11 of the developers' handbook, so if

make lo-fi sound as good as RealAudio?
Can someone who really knows the Ogg command-line encoder, help recommend the best setting for 33.6k modem stereo music streaming? (56k doesn't count cuz many people's 56k modems don't work at a full 56k, and I want them to be able to surf CD Baby at the same time as listening. 2 minutes / 120 seconds of audio should be about 400k.) wpi driver freeze on boot

SiL311x SataRaid (sata_sil)
Hi, On my x86_64 system I have a SiL311x controller that can do RAID. If I configure my 2 identical disks in a RAID1 setup, I would expect to see only 1 block device on Linux. Still I see 2 block devices. Is this intentional, and if so, isn't that dangerous ? (i.e. writing to both disks at the same time) Anyone with an insight, please explain :) -- dag wieers, dag at wieers.com,

Installing CentOS on RAID PATA not SATA - A8V
I'm trying to install CentOS 4 on an A8V on the PATA/Raid drives on the Promise controller. The Promise controller is recognized (sata_promise), but the PATA drives are not recognized. Base on this thread https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=147303 it seems that there is a patch which was merged in 2.6.11 to get pata working. Any ideas how to proceed? Thanks in advance
