blackmail attempt? Stable mailing list block?
I got some weird mail back, claiming that my e-mail was blocked, w/o
indicating what server was blocked, after the mail appeared in the
mailing list. Is this some BS shakedown? I use postfix on a DSL line
forwarding to earthlink, this is hardly something that should be rare
in the BSD world... the mail appeared to come from a web mail server
and the first link has the following lovely text:

RELENG_4_8 isos?
I've built RELENG_4 isos no problem, is there a trick to building the
RELENG_4_8 isos? I am building the 'miniinst' disk - that is, with
the release, docs, and a port tree, but no ports. This is so I can do
a fresh install without having to update the world... I am using a
script that looks like this...
#!/bin/sh
rm -rf /usr/obj
cd /usr/src
make -DNOCLEAN world kernel
cd

system slowdown - vnode related
I woke up to a frozen box this morning - it froze up a few more times
before I got a handle on it.
Basically, the box runs idle but refuses to do disk IO, or does it
-very- slowly.
Top shows processes stuck in 'ffsvget', 'inode', and 'vlruwk' state.
I can get the box responsive again by setting sysctl
kern.maxvnods=100000. It starts up with kern.maxnodes=36079. I

Problex with Matrox G450 and XFree86 4.3.0 on 4.8-STABLE
Hi All
I have just finished a re-install of a box that was previously working fine
under 4.7.
The problem is that the matrox drm kernel module is failinf to initialise
correctly.

Squid memory leaks in -stable using libc malloc
Hi,
Using Squid with libc's malloc, I'm seeing a big difference between what
top reports as memory used for the squid process (SIZE) and what Squid's
cache manager reports that Squid has allocated (total KB allocated in
the memory utilization page). Squid is using around twice as much memory
as expected, and seems to grow without bounds (I run out of memory every
now and then).

Project Proposal: The Gestalt System
The Gestalt System project aims to develop a free, Open Source,
object-oriented software framework which makes use of other free, Open
Source software tools for the purposes of managing, analysing, and
reporting on quantitative data in a manner which is suited to modern,
networked computing environments in which processor, memory, and storage
resources are abundant but time is scarce and

7-STABLE and Intel G33
My PC has built-in intel G33 graphics, which I'm trying to get to work

Following the instructions in

I have compiled and installed the driver and kernel modules from the git

I also patched agp_i810.c to remove the comments from

Change machine name without a reboot?
I'm having trouble changing the machine name programmatically on Samba 4
(running under systemd). There's no "netbios name" option in smb.conf, so
I'm relying on it using the hostname. Here's what I'm doing:
1) Call sethostname() with the new name.
2) Write the same name into /etc/hostname, to make it nonvolatile.
3) Read a decimal number from /var/run/smbd.pid.

rl(4) is broken in STABLE
Hi!
Revisions 1.38.2.17/1.38.2.18 of src/sys/pci/if_rl.c
(and corresponding 1.14.2.6 of src/sys/pci/if_rlreg.h) broke rl(4)
at least for D-Link DFE 530TX+ 10/100BaseTX.
I've sent PR an hour ago but still did not get its number.
Meantime I've rolled back these revisions, rebuilt kernel
and my NICs work again.

sort.int(c(2, NA, 4), index.return=TRUE, na.last=NA, method)$ix differ for method="radix" and "shell"/"quick" (+ new default in R-devel)
Does sort.int(c(2,NA,4), index.return=TRUE, na.last=NA,
method="radix")$ix give the intended result, because I get:
> sort.int(c(2,NA,4), index.return=TRUE, na.last=NA, method="radix")
$x
[1] 2 4
$ix
[1] 1 3
With method="shell" and method="quick" in R devel, I get:
> sort.int(c(2,NA,4), index.return=TRUE, na.last=NA, method="shell")

ok, one last time with mbox vs. maildir
i'd *really* like to get to maildir. so here it is, one last time....
using 0.99.x, can i have an mbox spool file and Maildir folders? for just one
account? if i can do that, then it'll be a lot easier to transition the whole
mess to Maildir.
i use procmail called from postfix to deliver mail. is that going to be an
issue for delivery? if i don't set DEFAULT and just change all

[Bug 2645] --one-file-system semantics changed with 2.6.4 (bug?)
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2645
------- Additional Comments From dalgoda@ix.netcom.com 2005-04-24 11:36 -------
It looks like the culprit is the change for receiver.c 1.130. It pulled the
call to send_file_list(-1,...), which is what handled the one_file_system code.
It's not like we can easily go back either, since flist.c 1.267 removed support
for f=-1.
Bummer.

Inexplicable rejection of credentials
I have a Windows home network with a bunch of Windows boxes and two Ubuntu
boxes. Everything can access shares on everything else, with one
exception: no one can get to the one share on the second Ubuntu box which
I just added to the system.
All my machines have one user account (admin privileges in Windows) with
the name "pauld" and the same password. In an effort to solve this problem

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello,
I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let
the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV
steps to get current.
Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

R as a daemon?
I have a GNU/Linux / Unix application in which I'd like to have an R
process running in a persistant state, while receiving instructions (and
data) from another process, and returning results to this process.
My initial thoughts are to set something up with named pipes or such,
but I believe that the R process will terminate when it reads EOF (^D)
from the input pipe. The client process is

last access file for 1.0-stable?
Hi,
I am almost ready to convert from UW-imap to dovecot 1.0 stable
for my imap use. I hacked UW-imap to touch a file in the user's
home directory so I can always tell the last time they used imap.
My hack looks something like this:
if(authenticated)
{
touchfile = (char *) malloc((strlen (home) + 15);
sprintf(touchfile,"%s/.imapd.last",homedir);

Simple question... where to find last stable version of HTB
Hi,
New to traffic shaping I would like to make some tests. It''s for a
production server (fw), using 2.4.27 kernel.
Something is not clear to me about HTB... is the last stable version
included in the 2.4.27 kernel and iproute2 (iproute2-2.6.8-040823.tar.bz2) ?
Are there special patches to apply ?
EC.
