Keep the politics out, please?
With this post, I run the risk of causing more of the thing that I speak against. I still think it's important to say it. CentOS mailing list is a technical forum. It is not a political forum. Just reading a thread on bitcoins and the entire thread quickly turned into a political thread with people bitching about everything from Chase Bank to the Russians, and that's just crap.

Keep the politics out, please?
I understand your point. I was just offering a bitcoin spec file for those who wanted it, no politics in that post, and was met with resistance I suppose I shouldn't have responded to. No rants about the fiat banking system in my original post. Bitcoin building on CentOS without needing an alternate TLS library installed is new, so really that is all I wanted to do was provide a well

Intel Integrated Raid (iir) relevance

smbd to 100%, hangs samba - HELP!
I'm running pretty bog-standard RedHat 7.3, samba 2.2.3a. I upgraded to that a month ago and there were no problems until Monday afternoon, when samba hung and all my Windows users reported problems. Running top revealed an smbd process using 99% CPU and killing that fixed the problem -- until it recurred a few hours later. I've tried restarting samba completely, rewriting my smb.conf

Public Apology to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore
I was misconstrued as having insulted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. My words were twisted and misinterpreted and I feel that there is a need to explain myself and set the record straight. What really happened It was sometime in Aug/Sep in the year 2009. The setting was in the Tampines Central office of Asiasoft Online Pte Ltd. I was having a ***verbal*** conversation with Melvin Lee,

The behaviour of read.csv().
I have recently been bitten by an aspect of the behaviour of the read.csv() function. Some lines in a (fairly large) *.csv file that I read in had too many entries. I would have hoped that this would cause read.csv() to throw an error, or at least issue a warning, but it read the file without complaint, putting the extra entries into an additional line. This behaviour is illustrated by the toy

Software RAID setup ideas and an apology.
The apology first. If I've offended anyone, or just annoyed anyone, I apologize for that. I sometimes can go 'off the deep end' when I'm being sarcastic (an old habit from my news.admin days when I ran a Usenet site in the early 90's), and I'll try to not go into news.admin mode here in the future. Now, the question. I have a few ideas about how to do this, but am

bce reporting fantom input errors?
Hi, After changing cables, switches, ports, I came to the conclusion that bce is reporting input errors that are not there, or creating them. I checked this with 3 different boxes, all Dell-2950/Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-T (B2), and one of them, while running Solaris, reported 0 errors after a week, and freebsd after a few minutes its count was > 100. The errors appear under

SMP Proliants and Smart2 Array controllers. (Was: Proliant on a 6500)

Attention newbies, an apology.. I WASN'T slamming you.
I'm sorry I gave the appearance I was slamming you. The tone was supposed to be "Please, help yourself first, here's why... here's ALL of the resources I use to help myself." I've successfully been able to keep questions about Samba to this list down to a minimum by first consulting all of my sources and perhaps you can, too. As I read it again, it had the appearance

dvd+rw+r for FreeBSD
I'm not subscribed to this list; but I read that Matthew Dillon has ported the dvd+rw tools to FreeBSD. [multi-level model] set up categorical variable/indicator?
Hi everyone, I'm working on a multi-level model based on one of the "radon" example from Gelman & Hill's book ( http://www.amazon.com/Analysis-Regression-Multilevel-Hierarchical-Models/dp/052168689X/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237069199&sr=8-1 ). I add an "region" indicator (has numeric values from 1 to 5) as the varying intercept in my model (I

qmail-remote uses 100% CPU when delivering to certain hosts
Hi. Firstly, my environment: FreeBSD isis.poly.edu 9.1-RC1 FreeBSD 9.1-RC1 #0: Thu Sep 20 23:42:23 EDT 2012 boris@jails.isis.poly.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 qmail-tls-1.03.20021228_4 I have noticed that qmail-remote spins around using 100% CPU forever when delivering mail to a select few hosts. I believe this all to be in userspace as top reports that the CPU is busy with

'diskinfo' problem with eSATA device (initio 1611)
Hello, for quick harddrive tests (SMART, noise, backup etc..) I bought a very nice "docking" station connected to my ICH9 SATA controller (http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkte/externe_gehaeuse/sata_quickport_pro/index_en.html) I can read/write to inserted disks, also smartctl works, but my favourite test doesn't run: diskinfo -t /dev/ad10 returns: ioctl(DIOCGMEDIASIZE) failed,
