Ordinal logistic regression p-values
Hi,
?? Are there any packages which prints out p-values for OLR's (like `ologit' from Stata)? I want to run a bunch of OLRs and print the p-value for the first coefficient from each of them.
? I checked polr() under MASS and it doesn't.
?There's a lrm() function under Design which does print out p-values but I couldn't extract p-values from the output.
? Thanks,
? Debs

Statistics forums
Hi,
Given that the R forum is mostly a site to discuss issues related to the
language, are there any forums that discuss statistical issues? I am
specifically interested in the statistical issues in experimental design.
TIA,
Anjan

Testing the proportional odds assumption of an ordinal generalized estimating equations (GEE) regression model
Dear list members,
I am estimating an ordinal generalized estimating equations (GEE) regression model on repeated measurements data.
Is there any way (preferably in R) to test the proportional odds assumption of this model?
Thanks in advance.

variance components
Please forgive the cross posting. I sent this to Medstats and have not received any response.
I am looking for a good written explanation of components of variance (a.k.a variance components), in particular as they are used in genetic analyses. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am interested in books, articles and on-line material. I intent to give the material to some of my students none of whom

How To Run Compiz from KDE or fluxbox with the new fglrx-8.42 driver from ATI
This is just What I need, I get the new fglrx driver working
with 3d accel, but I don't know how to configure the xorg.conf
for this new driver because AIGLX it's supported and I need some help,
I run fluxbox1.0 and kde-3.5.7, any help will be very thankfully appreciated,
thanks a lot.
NOTE: I don't use any official distribution, I run a LFS (Linux From
Scratch ) Linux dist.

nonparametric logistic regression based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing (lowess)
Dear UseRs:
Recently, I have read an article regarding the association between age and
lymph node metastases.
http://jco.ascopubs.org/content/27/18/2931.long
In statistical analysis, the authors stated "Because a nonlinear
relationship between age and lymph node involvement was expected based on
existing literature, lymph node involvement was also regressed on age using

min frequencies of categorical predictor variables in GLM
Hi,
Suppose a binomial GLM with both continuous as well as categorical
predictors (sometimes referred to as GLM-ANCOVA, if I remember
correctly). For the categorical predictors = indicator variables, is
then there a suggested minimum frequency of each level ? Would such a
rule/ recommendation be dependent on the y-side too ?
Example: N is quite large, a bit > 100. Observed however are

Ordinal logistic regression (lrm)- checking model assumptions
Dear all,
I have been using the lrm function in R to run an ordinal logistic
regression and I am a bit confused about the methods for checking the
model assumptions.
I have produced residual plots in R of the score.binary type which I
think look ok. However, the partial type plots show bell shaped
patterns and have crossing lines, indicating violation of parallelism.
However, I noticed

Reading sas7bdat files into R
Hi All,
I am trying to import a .sas7bdat file into R.
I tried using Hmisc package's sasxport.get() function.
temp <- sasxport.get("path\abcd.sas7bdat")
I get an error that says "Error in lookup.xport(file) : file not in SAS transfer format"
I am not familiar with SAS transfer format.
Could somebody please clarify what is it that I am missing,
Thanks for your

Regrouping dataframe
Hi @ all,
I hope for some help of you.
I have a dataframe and I want to regroup it.
examp4.csv <http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n4648927/examp4.csv>
I need the arguments of "VAL" as table heads and the "TYPE " only in
individual expression.
The result should look like in the example pic.

competing risk model with time dependent covariates under R or Splus
This message was also sent to the MEDSTATS mailing list, so here is the reply I posted to that:
Philippe,
The machinery to use is to split follow-up time so finely that you can safely assume that rates are constant in each interval, and then just stuff it all into a Poisson model. This allows you to use any kind of time-dependent variables as well as accommodating competing risks.

factor creation
Another newbie question....
I want to create a factor (say cT)from a numerical variable (sy temp) by
regrouping the values in classes (say cT <390, [390,400[,[400,409[...>=550)
Is there a simple way of doing that using the factor function?
AND I do not find how to manipulate strings (I want to concatenete characters
strings ("abkdas","chjw") into something like

Fwd: [ mocha-Bugs-7834 ] infinte_range.rb makes incorrect assumption about to_f
Thanks for reporting the bug below.
You''re absolutely right. Renamed Range#to_s implementation to #mocha_inspect
and checked first and last respond_to?(:to_f) as you suggested.
Sorry for the delay - I wasn''t monitoring the rubyforge trackers. I am now!
Should be fixed in revision 99 of trunk.

Score test to evalutate the proportional odds assumption.
To the list:
What R commands will perform the score test on an ordered multinomial
logit model to evaluate the proportional odds assumption?
Many thanks.

Testing parallel regression assumption
I would like to test the parallel regression assumption for an ordered
logistic regression model using either a score/LM test, or preferably, a
Wald/Brant test. I have been unable to find an R function (either in the
base or in a package available on cran) that performs either of these
tests. Does one exist that I am overlooking or is there code available
elsewhere to do this?
As background, I

[PATCH] Fix xc_tbuf_enable assumption.
Hi, All!
This is a patch which needs discussion.
Currently xc_tbuf_enable assumed tb_init_done = 0.
But Sometimes already on
For example(xenmon.py(xenbaked) and xentrace).
These two programs assues tb_init_done =0 at start time.
Currently xenbaked care the problem by setting tb_init_done=0 at exit time.
But xentrace does not care the problem.
Then error occured!(Cannot see the trace

Coxph: solution for violation of proportional hazards assumption.
I am trying to run a Cox regression (coxph) to predict survival after surgery and xray therapy. The model violates the proportionality assumption (tested using time-dependent covariates). I have tried to use strata to solve the problem but the stratified model still violates the assumption. Does the violation of proportionality preclude use of a Kaplan-Meier analysis? Is there any other possible

unequal variance assumption for lme (mixed effect model)
Dear Douglas and R-help,
Does lme assume normal distribution AND equal variance among groups
like anova() does? If it does, is there any method like unequal
variance T-test (Welch T) in lme when each group has unequal variance
in my data?
Thanks,

Is this assumption correct?
Hello list
we encounter a weird SSL issue with one of our dovecot (2.2.24 on
Centos6) which we can only explain if our assumtion is correct :-)
Symptoms are that imaps connections (on port 993) suddenly get veeeery
slow. Up to 180s for one connection with openssl s_client The thing we
do not understand is that in the same time imap connections with
starttls are just 1s.
We can see that entropy on
