R CMD check -- non S3 method warning
I'm trying to R CMD check a package, and I'm getting the 'checking S3 generic/method consistency' warning. I have written a function 'gamma.dist' which is _not_ an S3 method, but happens to collide with the 'gamma' function from the R::base namespace. Is there a way of telling CMD check that the name is intentional and is not meant to be an S3 method? My function

Assignment operator and deep copy for calling C functions
Hi All, i have a problem in understanding what the assignment operator '<-' really is doing. If i create two numeric arrays in R and copy one into the other with '<-' and afterwards change one array by calling a C function, both arrays are changed! The problem I am facing can easily be seen in the following example: (The following R code and the C function is attached and

Possibility for memory improvement: x <- as.vector(x) always(?) duplicates
Hi, I've noticed that as.vector() always allocates a new object, e.g. > x <- 1:10; > x <- as.vector(x); > tracemem(x); [1] "<0x0000000005622db8" > x <- as.vector(x); tracemem[0x0000000005622db8 -> 0x0000000005622ec0]: as.vector > x <- as.vector(x); tracemem[0x0000000005622ec0 -> 0x0000000005622f18]: as.vector > x <- as.vector(x);

Understanding tracemem
Hi all, I've been trying to get a better handle on what manipulations lead R to duplicate a vector, creating small experiments and using tracemem to observe what happens (all in 2.15.1). That's lead me to a few questions, illustrated using the snippet below. x <- 1:10 tracemem(x) # [1] "<0x1058f8238>" x[5] <- 5 # tracemem[0x1058f8238 -> 0x105994ab0]: x[11] <-

Extra copies of objects in environments when using $ operator?
My understanding is that R will not make copies of lists if there is only one reference to the object. However, I've encountered a case where R does make copies, even though (I think) there should be only one reference to the object. I hope that someone could shed some light on why this is happening. I'll start with a simple example. Below, x is a list with one element, and changing that

use tracemem to dump content in function read/write
Hi Expert I want to use dtrace to monitor the content change of one file. I made following scripts, #!/usr/sbin/dtrace -s inline int MYPID = $1; syscall::write:entry /pid == MYPID/ { tracemem(arg1, arg2); printf("\n"); } It always has an following error bash-3.00$ sudo dumpFIFO.dtrace 3836 dtrace: failed to compile script ./dumpFIFO.dtrace: line 19: tracemem( ) argument #2

tracemem() not exactly what I had in mind
I was trying to use tracemem to look at mblk contents. First, I tried to use mblk->b_wptr - mblk->b_rptr as the size, and was told that it had to be a constant. Foo. (RFE #1). Then, I tried to use 8 as the size, and kept getting decimal numbers printed. Stumbled on #pragma D option rawbytes=true (is the =true necessary, btw?) and that didn''t help. Then, in desperation, I

Include extra partial in layouts
Hi all, Does anybody know how to include a partial (next to @content_for_layout) in a layout file? I''m looking for a something like @partial_for_include => ''filename'' in my layout files. So a linked .rhtml file gets picked up from within a layout file. All my layout files (4 at the moment) have a <div class="navright"> tag, so one change in the

R binary version with R_MEMORY_PROFILING
Hi all, Where can I find an R binary version (>2.4.0 ) for windows that compiled with R_MEMORY_PROFILING? Within our application we are experiencing serious problems with memory usage. And being able to use "Rprofmem" and "tracemem" command seems like our best option. Thanks, Yoni [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

any suggestions to deal with 'Argument list too long' for a R CMD check?
Since, gcc was using upwards of 2gb of ram to compile my package, I just split all the functions into individual files. I guess I'm too clever for myself, because now I get hit with the "Argument list too long" error. Is there a way to deal with this aside from writing my own configure script (which could possibly feed the gcc commands one by one). -Whit RHEL 5 [whit at

help with Rcmd check
I've been working on a package that requires a shared library to be loaded. I have used the NAMESPACE file to load the library according to: http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-exts.html#Load%20hooks <http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-exts.html#Load%20hooks> my shared library is "excelpoi.so" hence I have added "useDynLib(excelpoi)" to my NAMESPACE file.

model - controller always one-on-one?
Hi All, Is it necessary to always have a controller per model? Rephrased: Would you end up jumping through hoops in the future if you have a controller called Customer in which you add methods to create new companies as well as new contacts? clearing the 'Replace Battery' on Eaton 5PX
I thought I could clear the Eaton 5PX battery message. I've failed. The following is based on https://haefelfinger.ch/posts/2020/2020-09-23-reset-battery-alert-eaton-5p-ups/ I shutdown the UPS. I disconnected it from power. I disconnected both the main battery and the external battery pack. I pressed the power on button several times, until the clicking stopped.... I waited 10 minutes.

ID from child table not handled by AR
Hi all, Im slowly moving forward, but there''s something a miss. I can save some relational records to tables, but only once. For an unknown reason, the primary key (id) of the child table is not automatically increased. (I can only perform one save, (the first records id field holds the value ''0'') and during the next save it says: Mysql::Error: Duplicate entry
