Facter ignores interfaces with non eth names
Does facter support NICs that are not named ethX? I happen to use custom names on my systems. Just a quick look at the code I don''t see why it wouldn''t but the behavior I am seeing is very different. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. [Puppet-dev] 0.23.3 release
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all There is some discussion of doing a 0.23.3 release to backport a number of bugs fixes from 0.24.0. What do people think of this idea? Would you prefer a dot upgrade to 0.23.3 or are most planning to upgrade cleanly to 0.24.x? I understand from Luke that 0.24.1 will be released shortly and that 0.23.2 clients should cleanly connect and

Backward compatibility issues in 0.24.0
Hi all, Hobbeswalsh on IRC has discovered a backward compatibility issue in 0.24.0, preventing 0.23.x clients working well with 0.24.0 servers. Specifically, you can''t specify relationships to builtin resources when the client is 0.23.x, although specifying relationships to defined resources still works. The problem is that prior to 0.24.0 there was no central class

Replacing puppet:// with svn:// ?
I''ve been pondering how to handle our file distribution issues - we''re starting to roll puppet out, and I''d like to get it somewhat right from the start. I''ve been watching the list for a while, and observed ''complaints'' about the speed of the fileserver method when dealing with recursive directories. If I can avoid this, I''d

Community: How to deal with attempts at sabotage
Hi all, The underlying assumption of membership in any community is that your participation is at worst neutral, and if possible positive. Communities, online or off, generally do what they can to protect themselves from detrimental influences, which is where policies, politeness, moderators, and all that come into play. Puppet''s community has been both fortunate and awesome,

Platforms supported by Puppets?
Hello, I would like to know on what platforms Puppet runs. I cannot seem to find the information on Puppet''s web site. Bcfg2 has it on it''s front page :-) I know there are .debs and .rpms, but are, for instance, Solaris, FreeBSD and AIX supported? Thanks. -- Guillaume Pratte Recherche et développement Révolution Linux Toutes les opinions et les prises de position

oddity
Greetings, Shouldn''t puppetd -o --ignoreschedules ... imply that splay* options are ignored :-) If that''s not the intended behavior could we get a --run-now that ignores splay* and schedules? Cheers, Ryan

I think 0.23.3 is ready
Hi all, I think the 0.23.3 release is ready, with this changelog: Pulling the code related to the fixes for #896 from the 0.24.x branch. This provides support and workarounds for the security fix in Ruby that requires the server certificate naem to match the name the client is connecting to. Applied a few small fixes from the current 0.23.2 Debian package:

Certificate retrieval failed: Connection reset by peer
Hi. When registering a new client with the puppetmaster I get the following error: [root@host ~]# puppetd --server puppetmaster --waitforcert 50 --test info: Creating a new certificate request for host info: Creating a new SSL key at /var/lib/puppet/ssl/private_keys/ host.pem warning: peer certificate won''t be verified in this SSL session err: Could not call puppetca.getcert:

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi, is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain package is installed on the client? e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the client. I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains it

memory leak in puppetd?
I have a cluster of 20 or so machines. On many of the nodes, the puppetd process take up a ton of resident memory (> 400MB RES in top, > 500GB VIRT in top) after running for a while (> 1 week). The only thread I found on this was titled "memory leak?" and last updated on 06-Dec-2007. The question on that tread was whether or not the memory was buffered memory. I

No networking
I''m trying to run puppet on a node I''m cloning from CD. No IP, no DNS, puppet with a standalone manifest and --use-nodes. I get dnsdomainname errors and a "Network is unreachable" error. I''m using 0.20, but I checked for new options in 0.23 and didn''t see one to turn off networking. Is this an option? Thanks.

what slows down puppet the most?
Hi guys, Which puppet operations should i try to avoid? I know that probably the most time consuming operations are file copies, but, is there something from the code point of view that I should try to avoid? I''ve seen for example, that on Solaris, puppet will execute pkginfo quite alot of times - sometimes with a package name, some other times without (pkginfo -l), thats extremely time

0.24.2 release candidate
Hi all, I''ve done as much bug-fixing as I''m going to be able to do in 0.24.2, I think, so please test the current code if you can. I made some unfortunately significant changes today, in order to try to remove any shared objects in the file server, which will hopefully solve the file corruption issues, plus some very strange issues resulting from renaming

Asterisk and XMPP (Jabber) : testing new application JabberReceive
Friends, a new dialplan application is now available for testing : http://svn.digium.com/view/asterisk/team/phsultan/jabberreceive/ The corresponding feature request is located here : http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=12569 What can you do with it? Well, a direct usage of this application is to make an easy to use GoogleTalk voice gateway out of Asterisk. Here is an example (assuming the
