Boxcox transformation / homogeneity of variances
Dear r-helpers, Prior to analysis of variance, I ran the Boxcox function (MASS library) to find the best power transformation of my data. However, reading the Boxcox help file, I cannot figure out if this function (through its associated log-likelihood function) corrects for * normality only * or if it also induces * homogeneity of variances *. asterisk security....again
Hi all, The problem I have been experiencing since last month is that some of my customers are getting calls with "Asterisk <Unknown>" caller id. Most of them in the middle of the night. And my asterisk server has no record of these calls. The customers were getting irritated as you can imagine. I guessed the only way to receive incoming calls by by-passing the registration server

My sincere apology
Dear Prof Brian Ripley: I am very sorry for that I use the unappropriate words "It's my great pleasure" when I read this mail again! I give my apology sincerely to you ,unreservedly and with my heart! You are such a warm-hearted man.And you help me to solve my problems. But owing to my poor English, I found I had made such a foolish mistake. My brain must have been stupid

What constitutes a good backtrace?
Hi all, I did my first bug report in a while. Unfortunately the good folks at wineHQ.org didn't like it much because Gentoo by default stripped out much of the backtrace info. I've recompiled Wine with more backtrace capabilities in it and am wondering what's considered good enough. Below are two backtraces. They may or may not be exactly the same failure but they both come from

Calling C routine in anther package in C code (R_RegisterCCallable)
Hi, I want to make use of some C routines from other packages to write extensions in C. In "Writing R Extensions", it says there is an experimental interface to support this in (or from ?) R 2.4.0.
