summing and combining rows
Hello,
I have a data set that needs to be combined so that rows are summed by a
group based on a certain variable. I'm pretty sure rowsum() or rowsums()
can do this but it's difficult for me to figure out how it will work for
my data based on the examples I've read.
My data are structured like this:

avoiding for loops
I have data that looks like this:
> df1
group id
1 red A
2 red B
3 red C
4 blue D
5 blue E
6 blue F
I want a list of the groups containing vectors with the ids. I am
avoiding subset(), as it is
only recommended for interactive use. Here's what I have so far:
df1 <- data.frame(group=c("red", "red", "red", "blue",

inefficient for loop, is there a better way?
The code below is a small reproducible example of a much larger problem.
While the script below works, it is really slow on the true dataset with
many more rows and columns. I'm hoping to get the same result to examp,
but with significant time savings.
The example below is setting up a data.frame for an ensuing regression
analysis. The purpose of the script below is to appends columns to

Improper coding for an offset in vglm()?
Hello R-help.
I believe I may be coding the offset incorrectly in my formula. I am
testing significance between different group pairings using the VGAM
package. My data are zero-truncated and poisson-distributed and
overdispersed, so I'm using the posnegbinomial function in vglm (code
below). I've spent a very long time working out this model and am pretty
sure it's the best for

Followed John's book, frustrating smbldap-problem
Hi all, Im having a hard time figuring whats wrong with my Samba-ldap
setup. I hope somebody may point out the error.
I've set it up according to John H. Terpstra's excellent "Samba 3 by
example". This book is also availible from samba.org, and chapter I'm
referencing is this:

Binomial GLM in Stata and R
Hello,
I'm not a Stata user so I'm trying to reproduce Stata results that are given to me in R. I would like to use a GLM with a complementary log-log function. The stata code I have is:
glm c IndA fia, family(binomial s) link(cloglog) offset(offset)
The R code is:
glmt <- glm(data=dataset, c ~ IndA + fia, offset = offset, family = binomial(link = cloglog))
Which yields

Interfacing R_project from program languages
Hello,
I need an information: is it possible to call the statistical R_project funtions from a C or Fortran application? In the r_exts.pdf manual I found that is possible to interface R-project with compiled C/Fortran routines, but I didn't found anything about the opposite situation.
Thanks in advance

extracting groups from hclust() for a very large matrix
Hello,
I'm having trouble figuring out how to see resulting groups (clusters)
from my hclust() output. I have a very large matrix of 4371 plots and 29
species, so simply looking at the graph is impossible. There must be a
way to 'print' the results to a table that shows which plots were in
what group, correct?
I've attached the matrix I'm working with (the whole thing

Noises and echo effects
Hi!
I need your advice. My problem is that I have very bad sound quality calling to cellular phone via asterisk router.
There are some kind of noises and echo effects when you try to speak louder.
I have the following components in my call routing schema:
- PBX with E1 port.
- asterisk router with TE405P card(32bit/4 E1 ports).
- Teles server with PRI interface card(3 E1 ports) and VTM

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
