Puppetrun denied by puppetd
Hi,
I have a Gentoo server running puppetmasterd from Puppet 0.24.1 and a
Ubuntu server running puppetd from Puppet 0.23.2.
I have added listen=true to the [puppetd] section on the client and run
puppetd --debug. I then run puppetrun --debug --host hostname on the
puppetmaster server. This is the output I get:
Puppetmaster:
# puppetrun --debug --host hostname
Failed to load ruby LDAP library.

anyone have 0.23.2-1 puppet and puppet-server rpms for rhel4 & 5?
I just upgraded from 0.23.2-1 on RHEL 4&5 to 0.24.1-1. I used
Dlutter''s repository. What a mess I''m in now. Anyway to make a long
story short I moved all of the old configs out of the way
(/etc/puppet, /var/lib/puppet) and started over with a fresh install.
I can''t get puppetd on the server to request a cert. If I do a
"puppetd -v --waitforcert 90" the

reload/restarting puppetd after puppet.conf change
Subject basically says it all. Anyone have a good idea of how to get
puppetd restarted after installing a updated puppet.conf? Using the
Service types obviously doesn''t work since puppet is already running.
Is there no, please reload your config on the next run option? I mean
there is always some screwing with a cronjob to just restart puppet once
and awhile but I dunno I was

puppetmaster built via puppetd
hi,
i''m trying to set up my puppetmaster infrastructure with multiple
puppetservers behind load balancers in each of our datacenters. i''m
using 0.24.6. i''ve read the howto on puppet scalability, and i think
i''ve got the ssl config working correct, but i''m noticing that when
puppetd is used to build a puppetmaster, some of the files in $vardir/

puppetd.pid and SMF woes
So when puppetd crashes/whatever, and a pid file is left behind, SMF
in Solaris will try restarting puppet, but fail. And then it sits
there restarting it forever.
I''m not sure if I can adjust the flap detection in SMF.. it isn''t
disabling the service for "restarting too quickly" because it takes so
long to start. Probably because I''m NFS-mounting ruby. The

Forcing puppetd ask puppemasterd for new changes
Guys, I seriously could not find this topic in the documentation.
What do you do when you need to force puppetd hosts get the new
settings from puppetmasterd?
What I found was only sending USR1 signal to the client process in
order to make it refresh its configuration from the master.
But I find it a bit inconvenient for a large amount of hosts.
There is also puppetrun which, if I understand

parsing manifests in a pre-commit hook
Hello,
I was wondering if there is a way to parse individual manifest files as
part of a pre-commit hook in subversion. I am looking for something like
puppetmasterd --parseonly, but that will work on individual files. This
way I can reject a commit if it does not pass.
Any ideas?
TIA

EL5.1 client problems
Hi all,
I attempted to add an EL5.1 client to our puppet server (EL5), and after
signing the client cert, got the error "Certificates were not trusted:
hostname not match with the server certificate"
I found the mailing list discussion and the relevant page:
http://www.reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/RubySSL-2007-006
As far as I can tell, my puppermaster''s cert CN matches

"server" config option (and cmd-line option) don''t do anything for puppetd?
Hi guys,
Unlike what it says in the documentation and the --help output, I
can''t seem to get puppetd to use the --server setting. The only way I
can get puppetd to work is to include a ''puppet'' alias to the ip of
the machine I''m running puppetmasterd on in my hosts file.
The strange thing though, is that the logs of my puppetmaster show
that it *is* getting

Puppetd exits when "puppet" can't be resolved
Heya,
I''m using puppet on Ubuntu (Gutsy/Hardy) and there''s a problem with
the default setup of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu uses network-manager to start the network in the background,
which in turn causes puppet to start before the network is up. Puppet
will then exit because it can''t resolve the server name.
Currently I "solve" this problem by uninstalling

Replacing puppet:// with svn:// ?
I''ve been pondering how to handle our file distribution issues - we''re
starting to roll puppet out, and I''d like to get it somewhat right from the
start. I''ve been watching the list for a while, and observed ''complaints''
about the speed of the fileserver method when dealing with recursive
directories. If I can avoid this, I''d

Problems with puppetd on ubuntu server
If you install puppet from the ubuntu 9.04 repositories (apt-get
install puppet) it sets up puppet differently than the gem. The
differences are obvious from the /etc/puppet/puppet.conf which looks
like this
[main]
logdir=/var/log/puppet
vardir=/var/lib/puppet
ssldir=/var/lib/puppet/ssl
rundir=/var/run/puppet
factpath=$vardir/lib/facter

puppetd daemon vs. cron
Hi,
I''m running multiple vservers and have some aspects managed via puppet. I
noticed that puppetd consumes from 20 to 60 mb RAM and the longer the process
runs, the more RAM it takes. It looks like 60MB is the top what I measured.
Having a couple of vservers (11 in my case) this can already take up to 500MB
just for puppet! I''m wondering if there''s any downside in

puppetd 0.24.0 on Centos 4.5
Hi,
I was managing a bunch of Centos 4.5 with Puppet until the ruby security
patch bit me creating ssl problems. As I''m not able/willing to patch
the installed version I tried upgrading to dlutter''s 0.24.0-2.el5
version. Unfortunately this didn''t help much. So I removed the server
and client installation completely (making sure to manually remove the

puppetrun failing: "connect'': tlsv1 alert unknown ca"
I''m trying to get puppetrun to work, without luck so far.
I have my puppetmaster and clients working fine with the clients polling
the master. Now I want to be able to force an update. Using version
0.23.2
On the client I set listen=true and created the namespaceauth.conf file.
Restarted puppetd and it appears fine.
On the master I run puppetrun as root and get

End of file and other errors: solution
For anyone that has experienced the odd End of file or Cannot describe
errors, we''ve found that switching to Mongrel has fixed this problem for
us. We''re currently running 5 instance of puppetmaster under mongrel (with
the apache proxy in front) and things are going great.
