6.2 - How to check for a failed disk using LVM with a hardware RAID (3ware)
CentOS Community,
What commands can I use to check the disk health of the system when LVM2
is being used on top of a RAID 10 using a HARDWARE 3ware raid card. The
OS sees a hardware raid usually as one big drive. Is there a way to
check the disks individually to see if any are failing, or throwing hard
or scsi transport errors?

Linux hosts file /etc/hosts
Good afternoon Gentlemen,
I have a question regarding /etc/hosts for CentOS 6 x64. I already have
a hostname set on my server, however there are 10 additional IP aliases
assigned to the box, one which I plan to use as a mail server. The mail
server will be serving mail for a completely different domain (different
then the default hostname of my box). My question is this: If I take one

Postfix mail server procedure
CentOS Community,
I was wondering if anyone had a good resource or procedure for a step by
step in installing a mail server with Centos. There ARE documents on
google, however almost all that i've found were outdated from 2005. Does
anyone know where I can find this type of document for a mailserver
Postfix + MySQL + SpamAssassin + ClamAV + Squirrelmail + Postfixadmin, etc?

LVM question
CentOS Community,
It is to my understanding that the /boot partition should never be
placed on LVM and should be a physical partition on the hard drives
(or on top of a RAID array). Is this an accurate statement?
Also please advise if the SWAP filesystem is safe to be placed under
LVM, or if this should be a hard partition / hard limit as well. I am
unsure if boot issues or any filesystem issues

CentOS 6 yum Groupinstall vs Manual install
Gentlemen,
I have a question regarding yum groupinstall vs just using yum install.
I have been reading tutorials online (for example how to run a Centos
LAMP). Most of the tutorials have examples to install httpd, mysql, etc
using yum install httpd....
The reason for this e-mail is that I noticed in yum grouplist that there
is an option to install Web Server, MySQL database server, etc.

CentOS 6.2 software raid 10 with LVM - Need help with degraded drive and only one MBR
CentOS Community,
I have a dedicated server with 4 hard drives in a RAID 10 software
configuration running LVM. My OS is CentOS 6.2. Earlier today, I
rebooted my system and my system did not come back online. I opened a
ticket with my datacenter who informed me that one of my hard drives is
no longer recognized by the bios and has failed. I was told that an OS
reinstall was needed.

binding additional IP addresses to centos6 on one interface
I know this was discussed before, and I have seen a million ways of
doing this via online docs. I have a quick question that hopefully the
community can help me out with
I am trying to add a block of 10 IP addresses. Rather then create 10
different alias files, I want to use the RANGE file.
Docs say to use the following format:
IPADDR_START=x.x.x.x
IPADDR_END=x.x.x.x
CLONENUM_START=0

CentOS 6 Partitioning Map/Schema
Good Evening All,
I have a question regarding CentOS 6 server partitioning. Now I know
there are a lot of different ways to partition the system and different
opinions depending on the use of the server. I currently have a quad
core intel system running 8GB of RAM with 1 TB hard drive (single). In
the past as a FreeBSD user, I have always made a physical volume of the
root filesystem (/),

Bind DNS SPF Record
I know this is a bit off topic from CentOS itself, but are there any DNS
experts that would be able to e-mail me on the side and assist with some
questions I have regarding TXT/SPF records? I want to ensure my mail
doesn't bounce.

Understood but certainly not helpful with large dynamic IPv6 PTR's...
Not that dynamic hosts NEED PTR's, but would still be nice to have.

ASP running on a Linux Machine
Good morning all,
I currently have a website that was written in ASP back in 1999. The
system is currently running Windows 2003 Server with MsSQL. Before
everyone flames me for being in the wrong place, I was wondering if
there is a way to allow centos to run old ASP code? I know years ago
this wasn't possible without a program like ChiliASP, but noow I heard
rumor that apache might have

SPF Record questions
I am inquiring about how to setup a proper SPF record. I know there are
SPF wizards/generators available but each seem to have a different
"opinion" of what should be included and what should not be included.
Let me give you a scenario of my setup, and hopefully someone can help
me out.
My domain is: test.com
My mailserver hostname is: mail.host.com which also has a MATCHING PTR

[HTB] Individual band for each IP in an IP range
Hello,
I''m using shorewall at the moment, but I''m asking this because I''m
thinking on switching to htb from a script if this isn''t possible from
shorewall.
Is it possible to get HTB to treat each individual IP in an IP range
as a separate leaf, so I don''t have to insert a separate HTB rule for
every new user?
Thanks a bunch, Iscu.

Errors in /var/spool/mail/root
CentOS Experts,
I am receiving the following in /var/spool/mail/root. I cleaned out the
file and then rebooted and the same errors came back. Is it possible to
analyze the data and advise if there is an issue with my system? This is
a completely fresh install.

Share working with IP not with hostname
hi guys
I managed to setup the share. I am able to access the share with IP address, but as soon as I try to do it via hostname, I get a user name and password pop up, which always fail to authenticate. Any setting I am missing?
Thanks
