vcrun2008 refusing to install
Hey guys.
In trying to make Skyrim work, I've deleted wine, steam, and everything to try and start fresh.
Now no matter what I do, vcrun2008 refuses to install. I had already installed it once successfully before, but still Skyrim wasn't working (no sound, generally buggy) and now when I try to install vcrun2008 via winetricks I'm getting:

Installing VC++ 2008 runtimes from termial only
I have an odd situation, I'm working in a server environment without a GUI and I need to get the VC++2008 runtimes installed for wine, but through winetricks it tries to create an X window. Obviously, this is not possible.
Are there any other options to get the VC++ runtimes installed through the terminal?

Steam Installation Errors
Hey guys, I'm sure that this question has already been answered. If so, could someone direct me to the answer. The problem is that, steam.exe cannot access the Internet. My Internet service is fine, and I have not had any problems with steam accessing the Internet in the past. The problem only started a few days ago, and I am not sure what the cause is. I have tried basically everything. I

Deus Ex: Invisible Wars on Steam - Cannot launch
Hi, as some of you may know, there were some issues reported recently about
the Steam version of this game not starting. Presumably the solution was to
compile wine 1.2+ with a recent version of GCC and binutils, so that the
copy protection software could hook certain functions. I've done this, and
I've posted some details in the bug tracker (
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23553).

Installing steam to my wine prefix?
The only way I know to install steam is via winetricks, the steaminstall.msi doesn't seem to work, at least not out of the box.
I'm trying to install steam, and succeeded, but it installed it to ~/.local/share/wineprefixes/steam, whereas I normally install stuff to ~/.wine. How do I make winetricks install to there?
I tried "winetricks steam prefix=/Users/Cole/.wine" but that

New winetricks 20110324: fix mac bug, new option --force, new verbs wglgears, hordesoforcs2_demo, experimental steam support
Another week, another winetricks. (A bit early because of the macosx fix.)
Highlights:
Fixes install check on macosx; many other small bugfixes and updates, too.
For vineyard compatibility, don't explode if a wineprefix has spaces
in the subdir name.
New option --force for when you want to override the dependency check
Experimental support for Steam games, see new verbs

Secret of Monkey Island SE, steam on wine, crashes on start
I'm wondering if anyone can help me?
I'm trying to run Secret of Monkey Island special edition in Steam on wine with Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I can install steam and use it to install the game (after it installs directx), apparently with no problems, but when I try to run the game, a window opens saying "Preparing to launch The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition". Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace:
Code:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

SegFault trying to open Steam
This is very possibly an easy fix, as I've had steam running on this particular box before through wine. However, I've been googling my ass off and looking through the suggested fixes on the appdb to no avail. Let's start with my setup:
OS: Slackware 13.37 (64 bit with working multilib) completely up to date
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT running the most recent linux 64 bit

Connection problems with Steam games
Hello,
I've been having problems trying to run Steam games. The Steam itself takes up a lot of resources even when idle, for some reason, but the games run rather smoothly - in menu that is.
Most of the games I have on steam are multiplayer games, and as the topic title suggests, I can't ever get to play them due to problems on connection. When playing Men of War, the game freezes on

Question about Steam.
I am running wine1.3, installed from the winehq repo on ubuntu 10.10. I installed steam through winetricks, nothing else. After this i told steam to start installing civ V. And for some time it just downloader with 1.4mb/sec. then suddenly everything stopped... and all i could squeeze out of my connection was 150kb/sek.
Is there anything in wine1.3, or perhaps steam running under wine1.3 that

Re: [1.3.22]Steam "F.E.A.R. 3"-Crashes On Start-Here I
Did you tried to launch the game directly with Steam ?
Tried to install d3dx9 with winetricks ?
It's strange that you can play at this game because on Steam, the game will unlock only the 06/24/2011... : http://store.steampowered.com/app/21100/?l=english
Illegal download or not, that is the question [Laughing]

Witcher 2 on Steam
Hello,
Can anyone run the Witcher 2 Steam version on linux? I can install the game, but I'm having problems with Steam trying to install vcrun2010. I got past the error by replacing the vcredits package in "/steamapps/common/witcher2/redist" with a random executable file and renamed it to "vcredist_x86.exe" - so when Steam runs that file and the file runs and exits without

C++ and Steam question
Today I installed Wine Version: 1.1.36-0ubuntu1 (wine1.2) and steam. I got the flash working on steam and got the IE6 to support it. I also installed winetricks. When I try to play a game called Torchlight i get the following message: Runtime Error! R6034 an application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Under wine add/remove programs it says i have C++2005, C++2008

Trying to get audio into Steam
I understand this is probably more distro related, but I would hope that perhaps people around here might have a better clue as to how to resolve my issue. I just recently got Arch Linux x84_64 on my rig about a week ago and decided to go with the 64-bit Wine.
After many works and tricks, I got a few of my games running, such as WoW and osu!. However, I have one last game that is bound to steam

Error in compiling Speexdec code (Speex-1.1.5 code) on Windows using VC++6.0
Hi,
I've downloaded the Speex-1.1.5 code and am trying to compile the Speexdec code using Microsoft VC++ 6.0 IDE.
When I try to open the speexdec.dsw workspace, I get a dialog asking to locate the ogg_static file. I simply cancel that message, and then the project is opened in the VC++ 6.0 IDE.
Now, when I simply try to compile the program, I receive this 5 error messages.

[LLVMdev] DynamicLibrary.inc compile error /w vc++2005 and windows sdk 6.1
Hello there,
I'm having a problem compiling llvm with vc++ 2005 and windows sdk6.1.
It seems that the Platform SDK supplied with vc++2005 uses PSTR for the
first param of PENUMLOADED_MODULES_CALLBACK64 typedef (dbghelp.h) and
the windows sdk 6.1 (also windows sdk 6.0a that ships with vc++2008)
uses PCSTR. The _MSC_VER macro guard for ELM_Callback(...) kinda kills
the possibility of using

steam games not running
Hey,
I am trying to get steam/steam-gaming working on my system. I have gotten the steam client working, but fail to launch games. I will be using half-life as the game I am trying to launch for this topic as it is one that most people can get running as far as i can tell.
I have a x86_64 intel i7 system with a nVidia GT218 [NVS 3100M] graphics card.
I am running Fedora 13
