PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hi List, I had a need recently to efficiently synchronise between some large LUNs (boot drive disks) at two different datacentres. Solutions like drbd and $proprietary_array_vendors_software were overkill - we only needed (wanted!) to periodically synchronise these LUNs whenever major changes were generated on the source. On the other hand however, re-sending the entire disk contents each time

about rsyncing of block devices
Hiya, I can see it's a regular subject on this list. I, like others wanted to use rsync to synchronise two block devices (as it happens one lvm volume and one nbd device served by qemu-img on a remote host from a qcow2 disk image so that I can keep the old versions) As I couldn't find any report of it being done successfully, I'm just sharing my findings as it might benefit others.

[PATCH] --links-depth for rsync
Hello, about a year ago I ran into situation where there's a "metadirectory" containing directories and symlinks to files. There was a need to mirror the contents of files and directories gathered via symlinks to this metadirectory, regular mirroring of the tree wouldn't do any good. The attached patch gives the user ability to define how many symbolic links rsync should follow

rsync-2.5.1 / updated syscall.c "const" patch
Operating System: OpenVMS ALPHA V7.3 Compiler: Compaq C T6.5 Compiler switches: /WARN=ENABLE=(LEVEL4, QUESTCODE) syscall.c is missing the "const" qualifiers for several of it's functions. This patch should supercede the previous patch I submitted. This was discovered while working on resovling the conflicts between signed and unsigned values. -John wb8tyw@qsl.network Personal

fchmod in do_mkstemp? (patch included)
Why is do_mkstemp fchmod-ing the temporary file? I was not able to figure this out from the CVS logs or my searches in the mail archives. Currently, do_mkstemp does this (*): mkstemp temporary file (which leaves it with 0600) fchmod temporary file (final perm & 0700) And then later it gets renamed to the final name and permissions set to what they are supposed to be. [PATCH] Adds support for Append command (SSH_FXF_APPEND) to sftp_client
Dear list, Attached is a patch that implements the "append" command in a sftp session, as describe in "draft-ietf-secsh-filexfer-01" and further releases. It is for and had been tested on the current version of OpenSSH (the Portable CVS) and it works, also against non patched versions. The patch is "simple" it it just like the "do_upload" function in

[PATCH] Drop SETGROUPS_NOOP
Hi, the SETGROUPS_NOOP define is used only for Cygwin. But it's also combined with the HAVE_SETGROUPS test in bsd-misc.c. So, since setgroups() exists and is functional in Cygwin, this is actually a noop in the more general sense. The below patch drops that entirely. [PATCH 3/6] daemon: Refine check for Device and Dev_or_Path parameters (RHBZ#1477623).
For Device parameters we expect a block device name. However we were only testing for "/dev/..." and so chardevs (from the appliance) could be passed here, resulting in strange effects. This adds a function is_device_parameter which tests for a valid block device name. For Dev_or_Path parameters much the same, except we can also use the is_device_parameter function elsewhere in the

[patch] Add `--link-by-hash' option.
This patch adds the --link-by-hash=DIR option, which hard links received files in a link farm arranged by MD4 file hash. The result is that the system will only store one copy of the unique contents of each file, regardless of the file's name. Anyone have an example of an MD4 collision so I can test that case? :) Patch Summary: -1 +1 Makefile.in -0 +304 hashlink.c (new)

Revised flags patch
Hi, first of all, sorry for taking so long. Unfortunately, some other tasks kept coming up. Anyway, attached is the version of the flags patch, that is based on the one I'm using with 2.6.9. It is against the rsync-3.0.0pre9 release. I've included the option name change from the repository, so the option is now called --fileflags. Improved from the previously distributed version is the
