force b/w printing
Has anyone an idea, how to force users to print b/w on a color printer. We are in the process to deploy color printers to some of our offices where they use centos 5.5 as their OS. They need the printers to print some advertisement material. But for everything else, they don't need it. And because of the costs of the color printing we would like to force them to use B/W where not explicitly

samba file locking
Hi samba experts, We have a strange file locking problem and i hope someone can help. We use some CentOS 5 servers, which use samba 3.0.33, to share files of a java application to clients. Clients are mostly CentOS 5 (same version as the server), but there are a few legacy windows clients (the reason why we use samba and not nfs). And now the problem. When our developer uploads a new jar file to

problem installing centos 5.3 on IBM x3200 m2
Hi, I am trying to install centos 5.3 on ibm x3200 m2 server. The problem appears when the installer is about to finish the installation. It detects the RAID correctly, but it doesn't finish formatting the root partition. I tried the default partition layout and also a custom one, but it always ends with the same message: An error occurred trying to format /. this problem is serious and the

centos 5.5 on optiplex 745
Hi, we have some old dell optiplex 745 machines which have the Intel 965q chipset. The problem is, that they freeze as soon as the system tries to start the X system. It happens even before any log is written. This happens almost every time (for some reason it sometimes work, but 99% it fails). When i change the graphic driver in xorg.conf from intel to vesa it mostly works, but still i sometimes

how to use my rpm to replace default old version rpm in centos?
Hi all, I have installed a software using "yum install ...", but the version of rpm in centos is too old. I have made a new rpm from source, and now I'd like to use this to replace the old version rpm in centos cd. So, When I install centos for my computer, I can choose to install it automaticly. In my guess, I have to replace the rpm at first. After that, I need to edit
