force b/w printing
Has anyone an idea, how to force users to print b/w on a color printer.
We are in the process to deploy color printers to some of our offices where
they use centos 5.5 as their OS. They need the printers to print some
advertisement material. But for everything else, they don't need it. And
because of the costs of the color printing we would like to force them to
use B/W where not explicitly

ibmasm service
Does someone have any info on this service. It's supposed to configure and
have the tools to communicate with the ibm RSA.
I am looking for a procedure to configure the RSA without using the bios and
when possible set a access password.
Is this the right tool to do this or am i misunderstanding something.

samba file locking
Hi samba experts,
We have a strange file locking problem and i hope someone can help. We use
some CentOS 5 servers, which use samba 3.0.33, to share files of a java
application to clients. Clients are mostly CentOS 5 (same version as the
server), but there are a few legacy windows clients (the reason why we use
samba and not nfs). And now the problem. When our developer uploads a new
jar file to

log monitoring and reporting software
Hi folks,
In the company where i work, we are implementing a security standard. A part
of this is a log monitoring and reporting software. There are a few
requirements, that the software must fulfil:
- It must be capable of collecting logs from different devices (Linux
machines, network equipment, ...).
- it must be capable of sending alarms on security events
- it has to generate daily (weekly,

problem installing centos 5.3 on IBM x3200 m2
Hi,
I am trying to install centos 5.3 on ibm x3200 m2 server. The problem
appears when the installer is about to finish the installation. It detects
the RAID correctly, but it doesn't finish formatting the root partition. I
tried the default partition layout and also a custom one, but it always ends
with the same message:
An error occurred trying to format /. this problem is serious and the

wine 1.2 on centos
Hi,
Has anyone tried the latest wine 1.2 RC on CentOS 5.5.
We have some applications that don't work with the latest stable release.
They require at least 1.1.34, but i would like to try 1.2.
If someone has tried 1.2 on centos. Do you have build packages somewhere
where i can get them?

centos 5.5 on optiplex 745
Hi,
we have some old dell optiplex 745 machines which have the Intel 965q
chipset. The problem is, that they freeze as soon as the system tries to
start the X system. It happens even before any log is written. This happens
almost every time (for some reason it sometimes work, but 99% it fails).
When i change the graphic driver in xorg.conf from intel to vesa it mostly
works, but still i sometimes

CentOS 5 and DRPM
Has anybody successfully implemented DRPMs on centos 5.x?
I searched the net and I found a few indications that it is possible, but
there is very little info how to do it.
Just to be clear. With DRPMs i mean deltaRPMs. And with implementation i
mean What yum plugins are necessary and what has to be done on the yum
repository to make it work.

how to use my rpm to replace default old version rpm in centos?
Hi all,
I have installed a software using "yum install ...", but the
version of rpm in centos is too old. I have made a new rpm from
source, and now I'd like to use this to replace the old version rpm in
centos cd. So, When I install centos for my computer, I can choose
to install it automaticly.
In my guess, I have to replace the rpm at first. After that, I

OK, whilst it is recomended to use 'password server = *' you can use a
list of servers instead. I personally do not see the point of setting
it as you are proposing, surely it is just the same as using '*' ?
