[memdisk] collision between memdisk and emm386 (FreeDOS)
Hi
I'm using memdisk as part of CD Shell' isolinux. I've created custom floppy
disk image 8440kB size. I've put FreeDOS kernel and bootsector into the
floppy. Boot process goes fine with this command:
isolinux /boot/memdisk initrd=/ximg/fdos.img c=60 h=8 s=36 floppy
The problems begin when I try to run FreeDOS memory manager emm386 from the
floppy image.

Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in
Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation.
Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu:

1 Boot UMBPCI (silent)
2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal)
3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive)
4 Boot EMM386 (optimal)
5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive)

Problem with FreeDOS ke2034_32 + PXELINUX + memdisk
I am using FreeDOS kernel 2.0.34 with FAT32 support (ke2034_32),
together with PXELINUX and memdisk from SYSLINUX 2.0.9-pre15.
I am experiencing this problem on multiple test systems (Dell
Precision 450 and IBM T22 so far).
My pxelinux.cfg/default has these lines:
label test
kernel memdisk
append initrd=test.img keeppxe
...which let me boot my 1.44M "test.img"

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems.
The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with

Booting an ISO with FreeDOS over PXE with memdisk
I've got $SUBJ almost working except for the DOS bit where the CD needs
to be read.
My pxe config:
label Firmware
menu label Update IPMI firmware
kernel memdisk
append keeppxe raw iso initrd=<isofile>
The ISO is about 400Mb, and works fine when I boot it from an actual
CDROM drive. It also boots fine over PXE, I can see FreeDOS being
booted up etc. The problem is - once

Problem with FreeDOS + himem64 + PXELINUX + memdisk
(FreeDOS developers, I apologize for the redundant parts of this
message. But I want to bring the SYSLINUX folks into the discussion,
and the SourceForge mailing list archives are broken.)
Background: I have a little Sourceforge project
(http://unattended.sourceforge.net/) for which I use SYSLINUX to
provide CD-ROM and PXE boot support for my boot disk. And it works
great with MS-DOS.

unload memdisk+FreeDOS => local boot
Sensei H. Peter Anvin,
I have successfully modified/enhanced memdisk so that one can chainload a
local operating system after running diskless FreeDOS.
I would like your advice regarding the appropriate interface for invoking
this functionality.
In addition, I would like to know what steps to take so that you feel
comfortable considering including this in the standard syslinux
distribution.

memdisk and ghost floppy image
I search for long time to make works ghost floppy image "out of the box" with
syslinux without success.
The only solution i found is to modify the the file generated by ghost boot wizard.
the ghost boot wizard generate a "file.sys"
i made (with the help of irc helper) a script to modify this file :
you have to put the file.sys without extension as parameter
#!/bin/bash

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Murali (????? ?????) )
Sorry for the delay, I should not send email on an holiday week-end.
I'll try to answer all the questions by explaining what does work
for me right now, and what I'd like to do.
I have a script to create the a USB stick or an ISO image. The boot
media contains many DOS images, and I use versamenu to select one
of them. If my DOS image is smaller than 8megs, everything is working
fine as

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Solved)
Hi,
I did found the problem, a combination of 2 factor.
1- I taught that I did install the latest syslinux, but in fact it was
the 3.36 version.
2- Thank to kevin Connelly, he point me to a problem he got with
mkdosfs command. The default FAT16 do not work, but the FAT12 do. By
adding -F12 to the mkdosfs command fix the problem. The default F16 do
seem to work for <8M floppy image.
Thank you

Memdisk and big floppy images
Haven't yet had a need for 10MB FDD images. The biggest I had to create was
5MB (5760kb). At that time I had to use WinImage to create the FDD image
and it took me a while to figure out the correct settings.
My notes state:
"I'm getting 'missing FAT' errors in WinImage, and 7-zip complains about
'unexpected end'. The fix is to increasing the FDD Heads from 2 to 4 and

Strange MEMDISK problem with XP Bootfloppy images
Hello all. I am pretty new to this list but I have looked through the
archives and did not see any reference to this problem.
I have an MS-DOS boot floppy image that I am trying to load using MEMDISK.
The disk is simply a boot floppy made using XPSP2. I have tried it on 4
different machines, all Dells. PowerEdge 2650 Server, Latitude D610
Notebook, Optiplex GX280 Desktop and Optiplex GX520
