[samba 4.0] read only = yes + Denymode DENY_WRITE
Hello,
Our samba fileserver is a member of a Windows 2008R2 domain, and has
different shares. These shares are set with a "read only = yes" and have
an explicit "write list". This works as planned.
But when an "read only" user opens a pdf with Adobe acrobat, the file
gets DenyMode DENY_WRITE and the user who can edit the file can't save
the document anymore.

High cpu load
Server is PII-350MHz/256 MB RAM, hardware mirrored high speed SCSI disks.
Installed is SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.8a RPM, XFS filesystems and LPRng as
printservices. Server acts as PDC and WINS server.
Clients are W2K SP2 (a few with SP3). There are +/- 100 clients.
We see a server that is 100% busy and we see during a long time a very high CPU
load (60- 95%) related to one W2K client. When

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello
I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000
and WindowsXP machines.
All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the
domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares
and print etc.
But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the
attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which
didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now.
I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for
Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue
relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a
command which works with winXX boxes, but

strang locking behaviour with macosx clients
I'm running a samba pdc on my gentoo box in a mixed environment with a
couple of Windows XP clients and only a few MacOSX clients. The users
told me, the file locking across the platforms does not work properly
sometimes.
I tried to google my problem, but without luck. I switched all the flags
related the lock mechanism of samba on and off, but the problem seems to
be solved yet.

CreateFile for EXE images vs other files
This question isn't directly Samba related, but Samba has helped me figure out part of the problem. When I CreateFile on an existing file like so:
CreateFile(FileName, GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_DELETE, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL);
Samba shows that I have the file opened with this type of lock

windows sysvol share
Hello,
I have manually mounted the SYSVOL share, sync it with samba and run
samba-tool ntacl sysvolreset.
But I'm not sure if all windows policies are acceptable by samba because of
errors logs:

smbstatus show open files when none are
I recently (a few weeks ago) installed 1.9.18p8 in order
to get better performance with an Access Database, which along
with adding a TCP_NODELAY in the [global] section has that
working like a charm. Thing that's bugging me now is smbstatus.
When I run it I see open files listed when I know that they aren't.
The following output shows quite a few files open that aren't
really. The

Windows host profile problem (write access denied)
Greetings,
Some users on a Windows XP Professional host are (lately) unable to use
their roaming profile. A Windows error message states that due to a
security problem or a corrupt profile, that it is unusable. A second error
message immediately following the first states that a temporary profile will
be used and that any changes will not be saved. Other users are able to log

DENY_MODE problem...
Hello!
I sent this message to samba-technical yesterday but as I saw no response
(not even a RTFM ;), I'm crossposting.
I just need some help to track down this bug. I can write a patch if I can
find the guilt...

NAS and 2 active Samba servers / locking not working
Hi,
I have one NAS which I can access via NFS or Samba.
This storage is accessed by 2 linux servers with Samba where I re-export the NAS share. This is sort of an active/active loadbalancing cluster.
The only thing not working is locking... If a client opens a Word-File via server1 and another opens the same via server2 it won't inform the user that he can only open the file readonly.
I was
