panel function with barchart (lattice)
Folks at R help, I can't quite get the panel function to work the way I want within barchart. I guess I'm still not understanding how to piece together multiple panel arguments, especially when "groups" is specified. Example: I want to be able to add the value of "yield" to each section of each bar in this graph: barchart(yield ~ variety | site, data = barley,

combination xyplot and barchart?
Dear R community, I am having trouble determining how to create the graph I want utilizing my relatively limited knowledge of R. So far I have been using the lattice library to create most of what I need. The dataset (enviro) consists of 2 variables (Temp and Precip) for each Day of a 2-yr period (Year). I wish to display Temp and Precip along the y axis plotted by Day on the x axis to allow

Group labels in lattice barchart
Hello, I've been searching on the web for a few hours and seem to be stuck on this. The code pasted below generates a histogram of subject responses in four different conditions in an experiment. This version of the graph is one I'm using for internal consistency checking, so I've set it up to indicate the order of the responses, which is contained in the variable StimCount. The

Confidence interval bars on Lattice barchart with groups
I am trying to add confidence (error) bars to lattice barcharts (and dotplots, and xyplots). I found this helpful message from Deepayan Sarkar and based teh code below on it: http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/50299.html However, I can't get it to work with groups, as illustrated. I am sure I am missing something elementary, but I am unsure what. Using R 2.1.1 on various

missing factor levels in a lattice barchart panel cause unexpected failure
Hi all - I'm trying to generate lattice barchart graphs with missing values, and came across the following: This does not run. I would expect it to: library(lattice) D = data.frame(X=1, Y=factor(letters[2], letters[1:2])) barchart(~ X, D, groups=Y) Error in grid.Call.graphics("L_rect", x$x, x$y, x$width, x$height, resolveHJust(x$just, : invalid line type which is simply

Error Bars in lattice- barcharts
Hello, I am attempting to write a script that adds error bars to a barchart. I basing my attempt heavily on the following thread: http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/06/10/2791.html I can't seem to get around the problem that was discussed in the thread. The following example should illustrate my problem. Sorry about the messy example but I am 1) trying to make it as close as possible

border of bars in lattice barchart
Hello! How to change a color (or linewidth) of border in lattice 'barchart'? I am trying barchart( (......) - my arguments panel=function(x,y,color,subscripts,groups,...) { panel.barchart(x=x,y=y,box.ratio=2,col=color,border=FALSE) })) or ... panel.barchart(x=x,y=y,box.ratio=2,col=color,border='transparent') ... or

Vertical bars with barchart()
I would like to create a barchart that has vertical instead of horizontal bars. My goal is something similar to Figure 6.10 (p. 166) in "The Basics of S and S-plus," except for the orientation of the bars. I don't think bwplot() or xyplot() will work.

How get the single bar x coordinate in barchart when groups is used?
Hi all, I am using barchart() to plot values above the bars. When using groups argument we get bars grouped arround a given x level. By placing values above this bars we need to know the respective x coordinates. How can I get it? require(lattice) da <- expand.grid(x=1:5, z=1:3, w=1:2) da$y <- rpois(da$x, lambda=23) barchart(y~x|w, groups=z, data=da, horizontal=FALSE,

Setting user colors in barchart
Dear R Users, I have a basis question regarding the use of color in the lattice package. I read the ?barchart help page and searched the R archives but could not understand how to do it. I just need to plot a barchart using specific colors for my groups, e.g. green and red instead of the default lattice colors. How do I do that? If I say: barchart(x ~ a_factor, groups=my_groups,

Error bars in lattice barchart with groups
Dear R-users, i want to plot gene regulation data in a lattice barchart. To illustrate the problem i encounter, the following code uses the "barley"dataset: library(lattice) barley[["SD"]] <- 5 PLOT <- barchart(data=barley, yield~variety|site, groups=year,origin=0, as.table=TRUE, scales=list(x=list(relation="same", rot=30), y=list(alternating=3,tck=-1)),

labels and barchart
Hello, I'm wondering how to set a value of mar ( par( mar=c(.......)) ) in order to allow labels to be visible in barplot. Is there any relation between the number of characters in a label and the second value of mar? Look at my example. x <- seq(20, 100, by=15) ety <- rep( "Effect on treatment group", times=length(x)) barplot(x, names.arg=ety, las=1, horiz=TRUE) Labels are

error bars in lattice barchart
Hi all, I've read the emails of Dan, Deepayan and Sundar about adding error bars to the lattice plots ( https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2006-October/114883.html), but I still have the problem when I want to adding error bars to barchart. I tried both the solution of Deepayan and Sundar but without luck. Here is my code (I changed prepanel.ci and panel.ci a little to plot bars

dotplot as a background for multiple barchart plots (with Lattice)
Hi R users, I'm kind stuck in my R experience... I want to have a multiple barchart with n windows, but with the same background for each window, and I want that background to be a recorded dotplot. First, is it possible ? If so, I guess I have to call a record plot in the panel function but how ? As there is no panel.plot and I can't use the recorded plot as an argument for the

Lattice barchart with different fill pattern
Dear list, I am new to lattice plots. I want to make a barchart with 10 and more levels. I need to use a grey scale for printing purposes. The problem is that with 10 or more levels in factors it is very difficult to distinguish each level in the plot and legend, since the greys are very similar (some levels have value of zero and don't appear). Here is an example of my problem: df <-
