import .csv file into R
Dear r-helpers, I read a .csv file into R with the following command: A<-read.csv2(file="Mappe3.csv") It worked fine, except that I would like to get rid of the points between the words and get spaces instead like I have got in the .csv file. At the moment it looks like the following: habe.mich.gut.mit.KlassenkollegInnen.verstanden hatte.gutes.Verhältnis.zu.Eltern

Problem with glm.nb estimation
Dear All, I've been using already for a year glm.nb() from the MASS package. But today, R gave me an error message when estimating one of my usual models: > depEsf.nb <- glm.nb(depE ~ manuf00E + corps00E + lngdp00E + lngdp00sqE + > lnpop00E + indshE + scishE + mechshE + elecshE + chemshE + drugshE + > urban_dummyE + aggl_dummyE + + eE1 + eE2 + eE3 + eE4 + eE5 + eE6 + eE7 +

weird! QDA does not depend on priors?
Hi all, If I run LDA on the same data (2-class classification) with default(no priors specified in the lda function) vs. "prior=c(0.5, 0.5)", the results are different. The (0.5, 0.5) priors give better 1-classify-to-1 rate, and the proportional priors(default, no priors specified in the lda function) give better 0-classify-to-0 rate, for both training and testing data sets. However,

function: as.integer
dear r-helpers, i created an object named A, which looks like this: A <- c("4.4","1.9","4.1") now i needed to get numbers instead of characters and for this i used the function: as.integer(A) which resulted in: [1] 4 1 4 My question is, why the numbers are rounded or more impotantly if there is a way to keep the decimal numbers? Thank you very much for

smbmount question
Hi, I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around, almost like a daemon: [root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau -c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out [root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount 10678 ? open source editor for r for beginners
Hello all, I am looking for an editor for R which has got functions beyond the normal R editor that is included in the program. I had a look at VIM but I think it's difficult if you are just starting programming. Could anyone recommend an editor that is suitable for beginners? Thanks for your help. I would like to know how it is possible to get the underlying numerical codes as output, which are the same as in my SPSS file. Thank you very much in advance for your help! Marion [[alternative HTML

pseudo R-squared with likfit (geoR)
We want to compute a pseudo R-squared for a model whose parameter estimation was based on maximum likelihood (function likfit, package geoR). I tried to compute the R2 proposed by Maddala (1983) which compare the maximized likelihood for the model without any predictor and the maximized likelihood for the model with all predictors. I got a really low value (0,01%). Did I miss something? Are

Off Subject
Pardon me for asking this general question with regards to Samba but I've been searching and haven't found a source that would answer my question. Is there some site, list, etc, that lists companies, schools, etc, who have volunteered information that they use Samba in their day-to-day operations? This would be of great interest to us as it would show Linux/Samba to be a viable
