Persistence of UIDs
Hi everyone,
I have a question concerning UIDs. How persistant are they?
I am thinking about building some form of webmail specialized for some
specific business purpose and I am thinking of building a sort of cache in
a DB by storing the email addr, date, subject and UID for quick lookups and
search of correspondance.
I am doing this because I am having issue with multiple people searching

FTS-lucene errors : language not available for stemming
I'm getting some log errors with clucene that I am having no luck tracking down on the interwebs.

dovecot fts configuration without solr
Hello All,
I always used dovecot and I'm pretty happy with it, but recently I
changed OS (to ubuntu 18) and to get dovecot LTS with lucene (the
default I was using on my previous arch installation) I needed to build
from source the version 2.3.10 (the one that came with the repos was
older and clucene was not actually supported)
The problem is that the Clucene is not behaving well, It

2.0.X -> 2.1 pitfalls?
Hi all,
are there any pitfalls known for the migration from 2.0.18 to 2.1?
Can I simply stop dovecot, make install and start again?

Indexing fails with .. FIELDS_INDEX_EXTENSION).c_str() )' failed
Hi,
Mailing list archives suggest that this problem has been fixed in the
older versions itself but I am getting the error still while trying to
doveadm index a large folder of emails. Sometimes it throws error
after 30000, something 40000, the latest it gave up after 111000. But
it just never completes.

Problem with fts lucene, on solaris 10
Hi all,
I'm planning to migrate my courier-imap imap server to dovecot, but I'm experiencing a strange issue
with fts-lucene plugin.
Basically, every time I start a search, the log starts to write:

Failed build with lucene plugin
Hi,
I've tryed build dovecot with the lucene plugin but I have this is output:

clucene-config.h location
By deafult, CLucene installs the clucene-config.h header
to /usr/lib/CLucene, but fts-lucene tries to include it
from /usr/include/CLucene and fails. Here is how it is fixed in Fedora,
for instance:

Indeed, Lucene's pkgconfig file reflects the fact that some

Considering two crashing bugs, which have got no response

fts size
Does anybody have any numbers for how large storage one will need for
the fts indexing server? I see the wiki says 30% of mailbox size for
Squat (partial=4 full=4). Is it similar for lucene/solr?
Do I understand correctly if I think http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/FTS/Lucene
will create an index for each user in his home directory? Will this be
accounted for in the users' quota?

2.1: problems compiling fts-lucene - CLucene git version necessary?
Hello!
I have problems recompiling the Debian squeeze auto build packages
with "--with-lecene". Is the git (2.3) version of CLucene necessary?
Debian includes 0.9.21b, which does not work.

clucene build warnings?
Hi all/Timo,
Is clucene still the best/recommended method for enabling full text search?
Although I haven't enabled FTS yet, I plan on doing sometime in the
future, and was going to be using clucene, but before I do, I'd like to
see if I need to worry about an issue I've been seeing ever since I
first installed clucene (and still get every time it is upgraded)...

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox

I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance
information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in
order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment.
This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over
the course of 3-4 months.
Some details on our new environment:

dovecot fts_lucene indexes not being updated
Hi everyone,
I have a dovecot 2.1.6 setup with fts_lucene.
The lucene indexes get created/updated fine when I do a manual search thru
telnet.
However, if I run a webapp that uses the php::imap_search function, the
index never gets created/updated. I run indo the same problem with
thunderbird and full-body search.
Anyone has some insight into this?

Indexer error after upgrade to 2.3.11.3

Disk space usage with mdbox
Why things happen is one of the great mysteries and joys of being a
sysadmin...
As for cleaning up SIS, I believe the "doveadm purge" command takes care
of it. I have a daily cronjob which includes:

doveadm expunge -A mailbox Trash savedbefore 2w
# Optimize mdbox storage
doveadm purge -A
# Update fts indexes
doveadm fts rescan -A
