Multicore computation in Windows network: How to set up Rmpi
R-users,
My question is related to earlier posts about benefits of quadcore over
dualcore computers; I am trying to setup a cluster of windows xp
computers so that eventually I could make use of 10-20 cpu:s, but for
learning how to do this, I am playing around with two laptops.
I thought that the package snow would come handy in this situation, but
to use snow, I would probably need to install

Help with Rmpi install
Hello R-help!
I am a systems administrator for the University of Southern California. I take care of it's general-purpose research cluster, and have recently been asked to provide access to a parallelized R platform. I do not have any previous experience using R, and have only ever had to do anything more then 'yum -y install R'.
We have a myrinet MPI network, and use mpich1 as our

trouble with snow and Rmpi
Dear R People:
I am having some trouble with the snow package.
It requires MPICH2 and Rmpi.
Rmpi is fine. However, I downloaded the MPICH2 package, and installed.
There is no mpicc, mpirun, etc.
Does anyone have any suggestions, please?
Thanks in advance!

Problem installing Rmpi with Open MPI
Hi guys,
I've spent a few days trying to install Rmpi with no luck. I originally
tried using mpich, moved on to mpich2, and then to openmpi. I've gotten
the furthest with openmpi, though am still running into this problem and
can't figure it out. Can someone help!? Thanks so much in advanced.
I'm using an HP Envy laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. Output is below, with the

Rmpi failing to install with all latest MPI packages and config arguments
On FC10 with openmpi and mpich2 installed, the command "R CMD INSTALL
Rmpi_0.5-7.tar.gz --configure-args=--with-mpi=/usr/lib64/openmpi" (or
/usr/lib64/mpich2) fails with the error ''cannot find mpi.h". Doing a
(s)locate indicates no header file labeled as such. Would appreciate
any trailheads.
TIA,
V.

npRmpi trouble - mpi.comm.spawn causes segfault
Dear all,
I have a large dataset of randomly generated weighed sample for which I
wish to compute a kernel density estimate.
I have used the "np" package successfully for smaller datasets, however
for the larger ones, they take too long when
using the cross validation options for bandwidth selection ("cv.ls" or
"cv.ml"). Of course, they are much quicker with

Rmpi segfault after install on Ubuntu Hardy Heron
I just installed Rmpi on my 64-bit Ubuntu Hardy Heron OS and using the
following without errors:
"R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_0.5-5.tar.gz --configure-args=--with-mpi=/usr/lib64/openmpi"
Immediately at library(Rmpi) I get the segfault displayed in my
complete output below. My first thought is that perhaps I used the
wrong library for openmpi, but with my 64 bit install it seemed like a

Status of Rmpi
Rmpi is not currently available on CRAN, and I don't think it has been
for a few months. It is available at
http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/yu/Rmpi/
Does anyone know its current status?
A few months ago I corresponded with the author, who noted some build
problems (specifically on Debian) were the hang up, and seemed to be
working on it. I wasn't able to get it to work then (on a

CHAR () and Rmpi
Hi. I am the maintainer of Rmpi package. Now I have a problem regarding
the change of CHAR () in R 2.6.0. According to R 2.6.0 NEWS:
*******
CHAR() now returns (const char *) since CHARSXPs should no
longer be modified in place. This change allows compilers to
warn or error about improper modification. Thanks to Herve

Rmpi and OpenMPI ?
Has anybody tried to use Rmpi with the OpenMPI library instead of LAM/MPI?
LAM appears to be somewhat hardcoded in the Rmpi setup. Before I start to
experiment with changing this, has anybody else tried Rmpi with non-LAM MPI
implementations?

Installing Rmpi on FC5 with lam
After several trial and error attempts, I managed to install the Rmpi
package without error on my Linux machine, running Fedora 5.
I installed lam-7.1.2, lam-devel-7.1.2 and R-2.4.1, R-devel-2.4.1
The Package Rmpi_5.0-3.tar.gz, I installed once from within R and once
from the command line to make sure, I link the right libraries:
R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_5.0-3.tar.gz
