Web page development, NVU: anybody with experience?
Hi folks,
I think this *might* be a product that the CentOS-affiliated community
might like to include?
I decide to buy a new truck because I don't drive my 'Vette enough to
justify it and I can really use a P/U. Thought I would take advantage of
RoadRunner's free home page (<= 5MB) to post pics, etc. to sell it.
XML, HTML, SGML, DocBook... what's a n00b to do? Still working

Mention about an open source image editor
Some days back there was a mention about an open source image editor
that people uses for application layout designing. I have forgotten
about the name of that software.
Can someone send me the link?

Recommendation for HTML editor
I was playing around with Nvu, and discovered it has serious problems.
Mainly that it reformats one's code regardless of whether or not one
selects the "Don't reformat code" option.
I know there are a few HTML editors out there, so I'm not asking if they
exist. What I'm wondering if there are those on this list who may have a
recommendation for one they like and why.

WYSIWYG IDE, etc...
I''m new to Ruby, so don''t be too hard on me.
Is there a great visual editor for Ruby?
Also can Ruby on Rails (RoR) work with any other databases other than
the ones listed in the documentation, I need to connect to SQLBase?
Can Ruby be used to create standalone Applications (like Java)?
If yes, does it create native looking apps?
Can it be use in Client-Side and/or Server

Wysiwyg HTML Editors and Rails ?
What wysiwyg html/CSS editors do people recommend. I''m mainly interested in FOSS programs
that I can run on WinXP. Sometimes you just have to create some mostly-static pages and
make them look nice. I see that Guy Kawasaki is using Nvu, which is based on Mozilla
composer. Any of you guys have any experience with that?

Portable R?
Hello list,
A short time ago, I found
http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/portable_apps_suite/, which
contains basically a complete set of office tools that can be run
*entirely* from a USB key. The concept is:
- find a Windows PC
- put in your USB key
- run OpenOffice, Firefox, Gaim, Nvu, Thunderbird, ... directly from
your USB key, with no app installation required
- save your files wherever

when I tried their method, it didn't work
Is there actually a way other than making a script with all the info in it?

take plunge and yum update to 4.6
Usually I am one of the first ones to do it
I have resisted this time...
It is almost the Holidays and out centos 4 boxes have been online for like 2
years or whatever
Has anyone boldly taken the plunge on any high use and/or Internet facing
Centos$ servers and done a
yum update
or a
yum -y update
without any problems at all?

apt vrs yum ?
I was checking out Dag's ( not dagw ;-> ) new blog...
I don't know how much, if at all, this has been debated...
http://dag.wieers.com/blog/using-apt-in-an-rpm-world
if he is so adamant about apt over yum, why are we using yum still?
Laziness? ;-) ...or are we just tasty food centric?
Yum yum yum !!!

OT: Linux WYSIWYG HTML Editors
I have KomPozer installed, but after using M$ FrontPage for years,
KomPozer looks like it is going to have a learning curve and I want to
get away from FrontPage and Windows. I know Mark (MHR) uses
SeaMonkey. Wondering if there is anything else I can use on Linux that
is easier on a FrontPage user. I found this article:

non-privaledged reboot ???
Greetings
On centos 5, if I ssh in as a regular non-superuser account and go to the
sbin dir to issue a reboot command, it wont do it as says you must be
superuser
If you are on the console logged in as a non-superuser account and do the
same thing, it will reboot.
Is this a feature, or a bug?

would anyone out there care to share their robots.txt experience using
centos as a webserver and their robots.txt files?

large and small hosters out there and possibly those that have high traffic
modify their robots.txt files differently that others ???

My searching hasn't found what I consider superior info, and we are

In the logwatch results we all see the info below on almost a daily basis
I have taken the liberty of combining logwatch results from centos 4 and 5
machines for extra info and future searchability

inexpensive / reasonably priced workstation / server development box
We are testing some simple low bandwidth video and audio broadcasting using
real server and client softwares.
So, for quick check and simplicity, we were plunking along TESTING on an
3.2GHz XP box and I noticed frames were getting dropped on the broadcast
just for resizing a window on the screen during the session.
Talk about totally lame...
I know this can be a big deal and start conflicting
