Centos Gotcha: YUM Groupinstall
Folks I have encountered a situation with YUM that isn't what I expected. Let's suppose I want to install a group, call it G. My first question would be -- is the group already installed. Realize all of this is scripted. So, I use yum groupinfo and I see the list of installed groups, and those not yet installed. If group G is in the list of installed groups, one would think that

yum annoyances
yum grouplist \*office\* returns Installed Groups: Office Suite and Productivity But the *only* way to see what's in the group is yum groupinfo \*office\* With or without quotes around Office Suite and Productivity, it refuses to admit that any such thing's installed. mark

Local Administrators (group) and delegation in AD
Hi all! We have got many delegations in our AD. To add a certain administrator group to the local Administrators group you can use GPO for Windowsservers. As Samba does not understand GPO I have initially used the "username map" feature to add a domain account to become root. After the appropriate group is added via Computer Management MMC by the delegated administrator, the line

setting up bare minimal CentOS VM
Hi all, I need to setup a real bare minimum CentOS Virtual Machine, but with normal internet / network access. i.e. I need SSH, Mutt, Links, lynx, ping, tracert, dig, iptables, etc. Does anyone know where (if?) I can get a list of applications which gets installed with CentOS 6 if every option is deselected in the installer so that I can see what I can remove which isn't really necessary

dhcpd frequent renewals
Folks This might be the wrong place to ask, but I don't know where to turn. My internal home network, including wireless, is controlled by a Centos6 server, which provides dhcpd services, along with NAT. I have DHCPD configured with the addresses 192.168.155.200 through 192.168.155.254 as the range for dynamic allocations. The default-lease time is 1800 seconds, the maximum is 3600

Kickstart package groups
Hello, I'm building another kickstart CD, minimal, and creating my own repository. Is there any way I can get the list of files that a group (like @core o @base) will install? The idea is to put only those files in the repository to be included later in the iso file, and only those files, nothing else. Thanks in advance Francisco -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment

dhcpd frequent renewals
Rob DNS service for my clients is provided by my gateway server, the same machine as the DHCPD server. I think that's what the "option domain-name-servers" line does. This allows me to provide 192.168 addresses to them when they try to access anything inside the house with a name. If it's not a locally defined name, BIND forwards the request to the internet. I'm not

yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"

I just tried a: yum groupinstall "MySQL Database" I expected that I would end up with a MySQL Database server, but it installed a bunch of .rpms *except* mysql-server. What is in a yum group
I want to install Xfce on a ClearOS server. They have not defined any desktop groups (actually no groups other than minimal). But lots of Xfce rpms are in their repos. How can I see what rpms Centos would install with a 'yum group install'? Then I get to install vnc server and set up the client right... thanks

Using the CR repo
Folks I am trying to use the CR repo in for yum, but find that nothing is getting updated. The repository isn't even listed in the yum run. KS Package Selection
My ks file has just Base which obviously pulls in a few other things I don't want like dialup support etc. System-config-kickstart doesn't let you specifically drill down what options are in each group. Is there a resource depicting exactly what packages are in each of the groups so I could write out specifically what I want? Thanks! jlc

can't browse PDC
We've set up Samba as PDC and for some reasons some users can't browse the for the shares anymore! (Worked fine for more than 2 months!) "windows alert: \\KURN\ not available, access denied" Any automatic reconnected net volumes work fine. There's nothing strange in the log file (except "call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented" but that was there before)
