After update to 3.6.1 -> smbd dies often ? massive brl and lock database cleanup scheduled log entries
Hi !
We updated our NT4 domain-server samba from 3.0.27a to newest available 3.6.5 version this weekend.
I've done various testing in a VM to make sure that everything is working under 3.6.5 and it all seems to run well.
After updating the live system to 3.6.5 the following log entries occur really often, but users don't have any noticable problems.

Users can't login any more
Hi,
I'm using samba for years now. Today I got complaints from some users
they could not login any more.
The PC's they used where old Win98 PC's. Unfortunately I still have to
support these. It worked fine for years, though. AFAIK nothing changed
the last months. And since I do such changes I would know.
I have a virtual machine with XP. To do some tests, I made a snapshot

What could cause an "unclean shutdown" of process?
Hello everyone,
I've been experiencing many problems recently with windows software parsing
large text files stored on a samba share (smb version 3.6.3 on
ubuntu12.04). The software, which are running on windows XP stations, are
crashing quite often.
I notice this in the log.smbd at the time of the crash:

Samba 3.5.7-3.5.1-2573 not able to shutdown old processes which results in locked files
Dear Samba users,
Samba tries to close old connections on a new session setup from the same machine, but fails. Those connections result in locked files which the users can't access - i.e. save or open. I have to kill them via "kill -9 pid".

Hi,
I'm running samba on a fully updated CentOS-6.3 box as a fileserver
exporting to Win7 clients.

Anybody got an idea what is causing the following error message. It's
filling up my logs.

affects the same server.

Tracking down random server drops...
I've been fighting with a samba install on top of a amd64 Ubuntu 10.4 system
for a couple months now. I have a small flotilla of Windows systems running
anything from Win 2000 up through Windows Server 2008. All save for the
2008 systems are setup with nightly NTBackup jobs with my samba server as
the destination. The 2008 systems are running MS SQL and use the samba
server as the

win 7 client can't map drive: getpeername failed
Hi,
this is my first foray in samba (and newsgroups) so go easy :)
I'm trying to map a network drive from a windows 7 pro client to a QNAP NAS:
net use s: \\qnap\share
I've posted on several forums and got good advice but the problem remains.
Rather than repost all the detail, please see my original posts:

Workaround: 3.4.5->3.5.3 breaks domain logons
I turned off server signing, and domain logons work now. On the server, I
had set
lanman auth = no
ntlm auth = yes
and the clients have
Digitally sign client communication (when possible) Enabled
Digitally sign server communication (when possible) Enabled
LAN Manager Authentication Level Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM
So my guess is that the samba update changes the

smb_panic sys_setgroups failed
Hi,
We have Samba version 3.5.4 and we are using winbind (Active Directory) for authorisation.
The issue is that for most of the members of a Samba share it is not possible to connect this Samba share. This because of the error below. It seems to be that the number of Active Directory groups where this Samba member belongs to is too high.

I've been trying to upgrade from samba 3.4.5 to 3.5.x (currently 3.5.3) on
a Ubuntu 9.10 system where I compile my own Samba. The server is a PDC for
several win2000 clients and uses an LDAP backend hosted on the same
machine. After the upgrade, clients can connect to shares but can not
perform domain logons. 3.5.3 does not build a browse list of other domains
on the subnet. Executing

Guest access broken for Win7 between 3.3.8 and 3.5.4?
I've been running samba on RHEL5 for the past couple of years with XP
clients. Late last year, in order to support new Win7 clients, I upgraded
from samba-3.0.33 packages to samba3x-3.3.8 (from the Red Hat-managed
configuration tree) and after some struggles got everything working. But now
after upgrading to samba3x-3.5.4 I am only able to connect as a known user
and not as a guest.

Samba 4.1.11 smbd crashes regularly
Hi,
I'm using a fresh install of samba 4.1.11 compiled from source on a
fully patched Ubuntu 12.04 Server.
Most Clients are Windows 7 and some are Windows XP.
My logs get flooded (happend over 100 times in the last 12 hours) with
internal errors and smbd dumps core.
Has anyone else such a problem or knows how to fix it?

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an
old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are
now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts
will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as
it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and
will remain so. Our users

The Group Policy Client service failed the logon. Access is denied.
Hello all,
Let give the background. We replaced our PDC with a new
machine. Both old and new machines are running Debian 6.0 Squeeze and
Samba 3.5.6. moved all data and user accounts to new server. New
server has the exact same configuration files as the old server. All
machines have been rejoined to the domain both WinXP and Win7. The
WinXP machines work perfectly all domain
