How Functional is Wine's IE supposed to be?
I haven't said much about this, but Wine's Internet Explorer has never really worked as web browser. I understand that the main purpose of Wine's Internet Explorer isn't to be a web browser, but to make Windows programs that require MS IE work. That said, one of the Wine 1.4 release criteria is "Builtin iexplore, Gecko". So I figured I should ask, "How functional

Message from Wine: IOPL not enabled (again)
Hi, on a dual boot laptop I have winXP and Debian sid/squeeze x86_64 installed. Wine is version 1.0.1. WinXP partition is NTFS and mounted read-only under Debian. I have used winecfg to attach the NTFS partition to my drive E: and use winefile to navigate to the microsoft office 11 binaries on E:. Both winword.exe and excel.exe reports the famous IOPL not enabled message. I have not installed any

Where is the installer?
This is my first attempt at using wine. I have wine installed on FC5 the version wine-0.9.17-1.fc5.src.rpm . I have the winecfg, regedit, winefile, winhelp, notepad and wine software unistaller. I do not see an installer. I can't find any information that tells how to install a *.exe app on Linux and run it in wine. <copy of the wineuser-guide> Assuming you are using a fake

Re: LiveZilla
> I have no doubt I'm a saint... But I am sure it was dimesio who actually offered you a working solution! Let's put it this way...thank you all! The trick is to get the font files in the font folder as well as in the registry. Earlier, in the back of my mind, I was wondering if it was a registry issue, but I wasn't ready to go there and didn't know at the time where fonts

Problem with all programs run with wine
So my issue is that most while most app's open just fine, i can't intereact with anything in them. i can't click on anything within the window. For example, in winefile the cursor isn't even visible while in the winefile window, and I cant click to navigate or even to close the window. I also can't use the keyboard to do anything but quit x11 after opening something with wine.

wine newbie has trouble with T_LOVE95.EXE
I'm new to wine; I'm having trouble running this game, which has been reported to work previously, in the test result http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4050, with wine 0.9.24 under Ubuntu 6.10 "Edgy". I'm running Debian lenny which has wine-0.9.44. Now I'm enough of a newbie with wine that I presume I'm using wine improperly (but not

Hype The Time Quest Regression
There's an old Ubisoft game called "Hype the Time Quest". For many Wine versions, Wine could not get past the Hype installer. It would go up to 117% and fail. Then a version came where if you unchecked the DirectX check, the install would work (or maybe that's all you had to do to begin with). But the game would fail to start with an error about MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe. Then a Wine

Installing wine on an Asus EEEPC 901
I am trying to install wine on an Asus EEEPC 901. Every thing goes as expected until I receive the following FATAL error. What is the problem and what can I do about it? If I then try winecfg I receive the error messages further down. winefile appears to behave correctly but iexplorer remains blank even after Gecko is installed. Notepad appears to work ok. Setting up libwine-print

Keyboard not recognized. Help, please.
Hello, all. Wine's Notepad captures my keyboard input perfectly, but nothing else does. All the software I've installed so far is silver-rated and up on the AppDB (except for some small programs that aren't even there... I'll add entries just as soon as I get this fixed). This includes, for example, Bulk Rename Utility, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and World of Goo, all three

BIOS Flash?
I know, I probably gave a lot of people heart attacks just from that title. I'm not saying that I would actually try flashing my BIOS with WINE, I was just wondering, purely out of theoretical curiosity, if it's even possible to flash the BIOS by initiating an "exe" BIOS flasher from within WINE. I would suspect not, given that WINE "can't even" run Windows

Usefull dll overrides
I've been trying to get a game running that is sooo close, but just not there, and I see from the Office 2007 thread that other people are pretty much shooting in the dark about which dll overrides are useful for different things too. I was wondering if we could gather the different overrides that work for different apps and put them in one place, maybe make it sticky? Maybe we need one

Find Program Version in Wine
Hi, quick question. In Windows, I can right-click an executable, go to properties, and in there often lies the program version number. Is there any way that I could find such a program version number in Wine? Jake

winefile vs wine problem
I am new to Linux and wine. I installed a program and it runs fine from inside winefile but when run from wine command line it only loads the main part of the program and the modules don't work. I have searched for an answer, but can't find one. What am I missing what is the difference between winefile and wine when starting an application? The reason for wanting to run from wine

Darwine issues
I am trying to use darwine 1.1.7 on 10.5.5 and am having issues. I downloaded the package from thisismyinter.net and is doesn't run anything, including the sample winelib applications. However, when I use the version from http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ it runs just fine. I have XQuartz 2.3.1 as well. This started recently, I can't remember what did it. Here is a link to the output when

Wine cannot launch "child" applications
I have a problem that Wine cannot launch "child" applications,Here is what I mean. I can run applications directly using wine at the command line, eg: wine reversi.exe works fine. But if I try to run the same application via winefile by browsing to the directory and then double clicking the application, then I get an error message: "File not found". Also I get the

Wine on FC2 crashes on File Selection dialog
Hi List, My FC2 Wine installation crashes (without any message displayed) on every application which shows the std. file selection dialog (eg File - Open) as soon as I change the directory in the dialog or click "OK" or "Cancel". This even happens with the stock "notepad" that comes with Wine. "Winefile" however can browse the file systems correctly,

winefile shows drives as NTFS - is this correct?
I am having consistent difficulty with write access and installing applications. The errors show up as write protect errors or not enough disk space errors. 'winefile' shows the disks as being NTFS. Is this correct or is it a winefile anomaly? Are these conditions related? What is the correct file system type? How can this be managed? 'winecfg' does not seem to allow

Using OLE DB Connections from Wine
Hi, I'm trying to use Enterprise Architect under wine. According to their documentation it runs on "Codeweavers Crossover" so I believe it should also run under wine (it's listed as basically working in the application DB http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ( http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ) ). I'm trying to get an OLE connection to a

?Common CLI Wrap Bug Strikes WINE?
This has been on my mind for a long time, and it's time I ask. Every version of WINE I have ever used Wine cmd in has this "bug", but I don't know if it's Wine's fault, or terminal's fault. Or if WINE cmd can at least be made more compatible with terminal. If I open terminal (only tried this in Linux) and run wine's cmd, I get wine's cmd in the terminal. If I
