yum install oprofile-gui
Nicolas Thierry-Mieg, We followed your instructions to yum install oprofile-gui. We were able to install oprofile-guii.i386 0:0.9.4-15.el5.centos and oprofile.i386 0.0.9.4.15.el.5.centos.
I was wondering what our next step should be. I tried ./configure --with-kernel-support with oprofile-0.9.6 and obtain a warning, a working QT not found, no GUI was built. Should we try to build

Xen and Oprofile
Hello Xenoprof Users,
Can someone please verify the steps to get a oprofile session profile
multiple sessions? I am using a file VBD for spawning two guest OS
domains on the host. I am doing the following:
1.) On dom0
Opcontrol --xen=/boot/xen-syms-blah
2.) On domU domID: 41
Opcontrol --vmlinux=/boot/vmlinux-2..blah
3.) On domU domID: 42

[PATCH] Fix Xen panic with oprofile
The attached patch fixes a Xen panic when a domain is shutdown before
oprofile is stopped. Without this patch, free_xenoprof_pages() is
called before the domain is destroyed and that, in turn, prevents
oprofile from cleaning up pages shared with guests. Shutting down a
domain without terminating oprofile therefore causes a Xen panic at a
later point in time.
The patch was generated against Xen

[LLVMdev] oprofile support?
Mi Maurice,
A follow up to Andy's comments: MCJIT can find line numbers for ELF files,
at least in limited circumstances. I know because I broke the regression
test for it while doing some cleanup recently. ;)
Looking at lib/ExecutionEngine/OProfileJIT/OProfileJITEventListener.cpp, I
see the line:
// TODO: support line number info (similar to IntelJITEventListener.cpp)

OProfile on Dom0. Problem with starting daemon
Dear experts,
to monitor performance of applications on our private clouds I decided
to use Xenoprof. For that, I installed patched OProfile 0.9.5 on Dom0
and DomU. Then, I started the daemon on Dom0
opcontrol --start-daemon --active-domains=1 --separate=library
--event=LLC_MISSES:90000
and received the following error:
/usr/local/bin/opcontrol: line 1171: echo write error: invalid

profiling KVM i/o on CentOS 5
Hi,
I am wondering what tools are available to troubleshoot KVM I/O problems on
CentOS 5, given that the kernel is 2.6.18 with some backports to support
virtualisation?
kvm_stat / kvmtrace - These seem to be available in the kvm-tools package.
ftrace related things seem not to be available.
OProfile is available, can it be used?
Also, SystemTap is available, can it be used?

QT and oprofile on Centos Linux 5.5
Philip Schaffner, Thank you for your reply. I guess we will have to wait until Centos 6 arrives to get a working QT. Did you see Nicolas Thierry-Mieg's response regarding yum install oprofile-gui. We were able to install oprofile-guii.i386 0:0.9.4-15.el5.centos and oprofile.i386 0.0.9.4.15.el.5.centos. Thank you.

[LLVMdev] oprofile support?
I've been trying to get oprofile results for jitted code without success. I
built an 3.5.0 llvm with oprofile enabled, and tested it with lli on a
small test case. I built the latest oprofile from the git repository.
Debugging I can see that lli is registering the listener and making the
oprofile calls to the libopagent api to specify the names and address
ranges of jit'd routines, and

is oprofile working on CENTOS 6.0 ?
Hi
I am trying to use oprofile with centos 6.0.
I know that the debug-info for the kernel is not available, so I believe
I
used the correct switches to account for this.
here is my script...
# reset everything
opcontrol --shutdown
rm /root/.oprofile/da*
opcontrol --separate=kernel --no-vmlinux
opcontrol --event=CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000
opcontrol --start
sleep 5

vm_map_xen_pages removal breaks modular oprofile
Hi Keir:
It has been brought to my attention that modular oprofile is broken
because it now calls get_vm_area which is not an exported function.
This appears to be the result of the changeset that removed
vm_map_xen_pages which was only used by oprofile.
So we either need to export get_vm_area in Xen, or put that
function back. What do you think about this?
Thanks,

oprofile problem in centos with custom kernel
Hi!
I am trying to profile my custom 2.6.37 linux kernel with
oprofile in centos 5.5, and i have encountered
the following problem.
(Before everyone starts shouting, I know that custom kernels are not
supported by centos team, however I really
need to run a modified version, due to a project concerning my MSc
thesis. So i hope for your understanding :-) .
I have build the kernel

how to get QEMU detailed breakdown in Oprofile?
Hi,
as now i am doing profiling and found that the QEMU should be one of the major reason for the low network throughput on HVM Guest.
In order to know details about it, it will be better to get the breakdown of QEMU in Oprofile.
As see from the following results, there is only two breakdowns, how can I run the oprofile to get more detailed QEMU informations?

Is oprofile still working?
Hi all,
Is anyone using oprofile?
I'm getting segfaults from opreport at the moment, and I'm not sure if
it is opreport, or just me.
In case it is something just plain daft I am doing, here is how it goes:
opcontrol --reset
opcontrol --setup --no-vmlinux
opcontrol --start
... now I run my program, /tmp/myprog ...
opcontrol --dump
opcontrol --shutdown
then I run,
opreport -l

Oprofile in unsupported kernel?
I'm currently looking at oprofile.
I see its configured in for the standard kernel but not for unsupported.
Any reason? Could this be changed?
(Guess I could build my own - just hoping to avoid it)
TIA

[HVM][XENOPROFILE][PATCH][3/4] oprofile HVM specific functionality
Add xenoprofile function to oprofile to obtain the mode, adding check
for hvm guest.
Applies cleanly to xen-unstable c/s 11831.
Please apply to xen-unstable.hg.
We also want these patches to be in a 3.0.3-1 base whenever that is
branched.

[LLVMdev] Profiling LLVM JIT code
Thanks for the info. I am using old JIT. So that should not be a problem.
I will take a look at using oprofile. I have never used it - so will be
somewhat of a learning curve.
I notice that the configure script has a --with-oprofile option. In
addition to enabling that, is there something else that also needs to be
done? My copy of LLVM is compiled with --enable-optimized. Will

I/O performance problem using LVM mirrors to back phy: devices
So, we just moved to some much faster hardware. intel q6600 CPU, 8Gb
unbuffered ECC, ICH7 sata (2x1TB disks) - and we were irritated
and puzzled to find that the new setup had really, really slow I/O.
The odd thing is that the performance is fine if you just mount the LV
directly from the Dom0... but if you xm block-attach it to the Dom0
and then mount it, you get 1/10th the speed.

FW: oprofile 0.9.3 xen symbols incorrect
Hi
I am using oprofile 0.9.3 on xen cs 16540 on an Intel system.
When I look at the top "hot" functions, I see p2m_change_type being one
of the top function in xen-syms. This function is only in the svm (AMD)
code and should not appear on an Intel system. I see that this function
is not being clled at all when I am running my apps as I have put printk
in the functions and they do
