Old Wine, New Wine, and ??
I remember running wine a long while back off a real Win98 installation. Worked great! And I had all my existing programs (of course, not all of them would run) and more important, registrations, dll registrations, and other needed registry entries. Somewhere along the line, the masters of the vinyards decided to abandone this mode of operations, probably most rightly so. I agree wine runs

scoring question
Hi All I have just realized that if I set a query like 'green jelly bean' xapian will turn that query into 'green OR jelly OR bean' This causes documents containing just one of the words to be considered a 100% hit. The behavior I would like to see is that each word gives a 33.3% hit, so that a document containing all 3 words gets placed above a document with only 1 or 2

Is this a Wine bug or a Gnome/Metacity bug?
With the Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder running in Wine in Linux with Gnome/Metacity, the syncing of the "Always On Top Status" is one-way. Under tools, Keyfinder has an "Always On Top" option. If you put the window into "Always On Top" mode via the keyfinder's option under tools, when you right-click on the window bar, you will see that, according to

Problems with the Speex Jitter Buffer
Hi, I am using the JitterBuffer. Since there is not so much documentation I think I dont use it in a correct way. All the packets are recieved (I control the sequence numbers) but the JitterBuffer often tells me he has no packet. I am using it in the following way: I am not sure if I use the ticks correctly but I think it can be set to 20(msec). It is set as a Member in my class and i

AppDB
How does one go about getting a newer version of an application added to the AppDB in order to provide reports as to what does and does not work with that version of the application when run via Wine? In particular I'd like to add my observations regarding v4.31 of Pegasus Mail but it is not one of the listed versions. -- Jim

Problems with the Speex Jitter Buffer
Thanks for your reply Jean-Marc! this was what I had before. But I decided to restructure it since the thread that plays the sound is a callback from the sound hardware, more or less an interrupt handler. For me it seems more reasonable to waste some memory for to save the decompressed Packet. While I write this I begin to think that it is possible I decompress Packets that are never used

I've got a netbook, circe 2009. When I got it, not that I was wild about ubuntu, but there was specifically an ubuntu netbook remix. Well, it's a few years later - has anyone put CentOS (6, preferably) on a netbook, and were there any problems? mark

[OT] What file can I use to change Ubuntu 9.10 display characteristics?
This question is vaguely related to R in that I have managed to wedge the netbook computer that I use for demonstrations of R and I would like to know how to un-wedge it so I can continue to give lectures about R. I have an ASUS eee PC running the netbook-remix version of Ubuntu 9.10. The X server in 9.10 is a little different from earlier versions in that it does not require an explicit

Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client for 32- bit CentOS 6
I have the above installed on a couple of 64-bit systems, both CentOS 6 and CentOS 7, where the client works fine. Now, however, I have installed the 32-bit version of CentOS 6 on a netbook but I cannot get the Cisco website installer to recognize the computer/operating system, not even displaying any error message. Does anyone have the client running on a 32-bit system? I have been told it

C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS.... The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work, not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

Recommendation for a Linux alternative to Centos - ATH9K disaster
I persuaded a reluctant friend to buy a new computer. I enthusiastically extolled the joys and benefits of Centos and promised to install it on his new machine - dual booting with Micro$oft Windoze 7. His super-duper new laptop arrived. Acer, AMD 4 core, fast etc. but not as nice looking as my impressive HP DV5. The wireless refused to connect. After 8 hours on Saturday I could sometimes see
