Windows client with two NICs
Hello
I have a Windows 7 SP1 computer at work, and I want to connect to a
different subnet over an OpenVPN connection.
First I have this question: if I have a Windows client with two NICs,
each one with its own sub-net (172.16.0.0/24 and 10.0.0.0/8) and no
routing, should I be able to see and ping all samba computer names from
both networks ?
I am asking because the 172.15.0.0/24 network is

How to preserve iptables when running the GUI tool ?
Hello
I have set up NAT with iptables for an openvpn connection, so that the
VPN server could give VPN clients access to the entire sub-net of the
server.
The probelm is if I start system-config-securitylevel to say disable the
firewall, and then again to enable it, my iptable rules are gone !
I did run `service iptables save` before.
Is there something I can do to prevent this ? Is there a

SAMBA WINS
Is Samba still unable to replicate WINS information? I have a Samba WINS
server in place now at Location A. I am establishing Location B which will
connect to Location A via OpenVPN behind a IPCop box. I would like to place
a Samba WINS server in Location B so that client WINS traffic will not
travel across the VPN, however I am unsure if Samba's inability to replicate
WINS has since been

TINC and OpenVPN tunnel performance on a Windows client
Hi,
I had some performance problems with TINC running on Windows XP. I had a
VPN tunnel running over a wireless network to a Linux VPN server. Web
browsing through the tunnel was a pain. Big web pages with lots of
pictures loaded very slow compared to a plain network connection.
When the VPN client was running on a Linux computer, and a Windows
computer was browsing the web through the VPN

DHCP_HOSTNAME in ifcfg-eth0
Hello
Is there a way for the dhcp client to send the current host name of the
machine when requesting a lease ?
Currently I have to include a line like
DHCP_HOSTNAME=appserver2
in my /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0, but I would like to
tell the dhcp client to just 'also send the hostname' and then the
client to get the current hostname itself, instead of having the name

Cross-VPN Browsing
Hey all,
I'm having a bit of a problem with cross-subnet browsing where one of
the subnets is managed by an OpenVPN server.
My network is set up with a central wireless router running OpenWRT.
192.168.10.x is the subnet for wired hosts and 192.168.20.x is the
subnet for wireless hosts. To allow cross-subnet browsing, the OpenWRT
router is running as a WINS server (samba).
Now, I've

Feasibility of Tinc vpn with my current setup.
Hi all,
I am new to Tinc VPN and really would like to make full benefit of this
implementation if possible. I would like to know whether I will be able to
use Tinc to its full potential. My current setup is as follows,
IPfire router/firewall(openvpn client) --->ISP(Internet)--->Amazon
VPS(openvpn server).
The ipfire router is behind a CARRIER-GRADE NAT, I am able to reach the
network

Openvpn and samba: play nice together?
openVPN with TUN connection works perfect here.
I configured 2 TUN connections to connect two remote offices(over DSL
line) to our main site without any issue.
Here is my configuration:
Main site: samba4 AD DC server1, plus a file server1, and a dedicated
openVPN server
site1: samba4 AD DC server2, plus a file server2, and a dedicated
openVPN server with TUN connection to the main site

iptables - Forwarding with port translation thru an OpenVPN tunnel
Perhaps someone with a sharper brain than I can solve this little mystery.
I've Googled until I'm blue in the face, read all TFM's I can find, and
tried several iptables rule combinations but just can't get the following to
work. Here's my challenge:
I have a CentOS-5.3 "main" server with a static public IP address

Openvpn, bridge and shorewall
Hi,
I have a Linux firewall based on shorewall with 2 NIC and ADSL (ppp0). My ppp0 ip is fixed. The internal NIC, eth1, is bridged with tap0, tap1 and tap2 to form br0. br0 subnet is 192.168.2.0/24.
The firewall is configured to masq internal traffic and block whatever needs to be blocked. It is also configured to tunnel openvpn v1.6.
I have a roaming laptop running XP. I can create a tunnel

OpenVPN routing question
Hello all,
Let's say I have an OpenVPN (v2) server sitting on a Linux machine with the
IP address of, say, 192.168.10.1o. We are talking real address, assigned to
a NIC on the machine.
Now let us say the OpenVPN server hands out IP's in the
192.168.20.0/24range. And let us say that I want the machines able to
reach the VPN server
to be able to route to the machines available via the VPN.

VoIP over virtualized VPN
Hi List,
Our company has several small distributed offices we would like to
inter-connect with bridged VPN a single subnet (last example in
http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html). We have SIP phones in every
office (up to 5) so we can use SIP without any NATing and securely.
Max theoretical simultaneous calls possible ~30, but we have ~5-10 @
regular basis.
OpenVPN server would be in the same

Bridges, ebtables and OpenVPN [non member]
Hi all,
I''m trying to use OpenVPN as a VPN solution on a firewall running
Shorewall. The IPSEC VPN I tried first has shown a little bit unstable
under several conditions, especially with Windows clients.
As OpenVPN is best run in ''bridged'' mode (see
http://fedoranews.org/contributors/florin_andrei/openvpn/), I became
interested in the bridge capabilities of

Concept clarification between multiple ConnecTo and multiple netname
Hi, Etienne
Thanks for your clarification, and this helped a lot. And in order to get a better understanding for the mechanism of Tinc and the purpose of ConnectTo statement, can I think the ConnectTo is the way to get the node into the Tinc VPN domain, instead of establish VPN connection between nodes.
Once any node ConnectTo the Tinc VPN domain, it learns all other nodes, subnets, and

Concept clarification between multiple ConnecTo and multiple netname
If you have multiple ConnectTo statements in your tinc.conf, then tinc will
attempt to establish connections with *all* of them. It is not a fallback,
though it is a good idea for every node to have at least two direct
connections for improved resiliency and fault tolerance.
As to whether you should have just one tinc network or multiple networks,
well, that depends on what you're trying to
