Dos/Unix newline translating
I'm using server with Debian 6.0.3 + Samba 3.5.6 where I shared "/temporary" folder. It happens this behaviour: if I create a text file in my Windows XP client and I copy it to /temporary folder, then I open it by VI editor into my Debian server and I see '^M' at the end of every row. How can I solve problem ? Problem references to Dos/Unix newline translating ?

Text files from Unix share
Hello The end-of-line or new-line character is not interpreted when I open a shared file using MS notepad. The file was created on a Sun Solaris system - The contents of the file is " I newline am newline testing newline samba" when I do a hex dump of the file on Unix I can see the 0d 0a at the end of each line and the same on the Windows side but when I open the file with Notepad I get

Unix .TXT vs DOS .TXT files
Is there any option that will covert a text file from one system to the other? I have a few files on linux with extension TXT. There are plain text files. On NT, TXT is associated with the "notepad" and opens with the file as one long string. This is the typical CR/LF conversions between Unix and DOS. Can Samba convert the text files based on the client? Subba Rao subb3@attglobal.net

Samba 1.9.18 DOS to UNIX and back with ASCII
I have found that Samba does not seem to handle the ^M EOL character very well. This seems to be a big problem with Windows Notepad and then in vi for UNIX. Other than the ux2dos and dos2ux commands does anyone know of another solution or if this has been fixed in a more current release of Samba? Thanks! Dos To Unix?
If we drag a file from a Windows directory - say autoexec.bat and drop it onto a samba mapped Unix drive, when we then go to the Unix box and vi the file all the lines end in the DOS EOL character (^M) is there any option/configuration in samba to make it convert DOS text files to UNIX format? R (unix) command line editing for native speakers of vi
As an inveterate user of vi, I was pleased to stumble on how to use it for editing R commands. When an interactive R session is launched under unix, the command line editor most likely defaults to emacs. Typing <esc>,<ctrl>+j will switch this to vi editing mode (see below for possible exceptions). excerpted from readline(3) manpage: vi-editing-mode (M-C-j) When in emacs

Cannot access a file with Mulberry from a dovecot server if the mail does not end with a newline character.
I use Mulberry 3.1.6 on Windows to read my mails with dovecot 0.99.12 Solaris 9. There are some mail which I cannot read. When I try to open such a mail, dovecot quits and restarts (I can see that with ps, nothing is logged). The Mulberry log just looks like this: | --> #7.2300 Sun Dec 19 12:59:33 2004 | A00009 FETCH 695 (BODY.PEEK[1]) | * 695 FETCH (BODY[1] {61} | | --> #7.2300 Sun Dec 19

FW: How to configure Unix file mode on NT/2000 file transfer
I could not find this in the list... How can I configure Samba (I'm on 2.2) to automatically strip those pesky ^M character (DOS newline) when I share a Unix/Solaris slice to NT. I'd like to be able to copy files back and forth and not have to edit the files and strip out the control-M characters in my files on Unix. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

translating iax2 register into sip register
Hello, reading iax2 draft, I'm not sure if the protocol supports peer 2 peer calls (e.g. like SIP). If it doesn't, is Asterisk the only server side iax2 implementation? I also would like to understand if it's possible for asterisk (by means of some configuration rules) to translate a iax2 register into a sip register in order to have user credentials verified by an external entity. I

no group package selection via PXE network installation
I'm trying to install centos 6.4 on my server A (which has 512 MB ram and no cdrom) by PXE. I exported installation tree 'CentOS-6.4-i386-bin-DVD1.iso' via http on server 'Z', all according to Centos howto (copied vmlinuz, pxelinux.cfg, initrd.img , started tftpd+dhcpd services) Boot process is OK (in text mode! I think it's a memory problem); it's required keyboard

Contribute to Centos wiki
I'd like to edit the HowTo/EncryptedFilesystem page the note on how to create a valid keyfile. This is not a trivial action. Creating a plaintext file in vim does not qualify as a valid password. Instead, a valid keyfile is created by doing the following: echo -n "password" > keyfile.key which explicitly creates the file with password on the first line with an explicit
