Looking for a casual contractor to write R functions and help integrate with Excel
We are a small consulting company that uses R to automate several data extraction fuctions from SPSS files -- most notably we create powerpoint slides from a script in Excel (using VBA) which calls R to extract data and place into Excel using RExcel. We're not specialists, and don't really have the time to understand R. Our CIO is the only person who even vaguely understands R, and he does

Dropped / Duplicate Frames
Hi all, I've been playing with Theora this week and have hacked together a test program (http://www.firestorm.cx/live1/) that can encode live video (no audio) from a V4L* source that supports the YUV420 pixel format. Now encoding Theora ain't exactly a speedy process, and sometimes frames get lost during capturing. What I'd like to be able to do is tell libtheora that the next few

Weird routing problem (2 internet connections)
Hello, I have a very strange problem that I can''t seem to be able to figure out. First of all: my network scheme: http://heavyg.safehex.be/network.png I have an agreement with my neighbour that I can use his wireless network to experiment with extra internet uplinks in exchange for some filesharing etc. Now I have set up a wireless router at my place, that connects to his network.

Is print-serving this easy? Also, Sol8 compile problem
I plan to install Samba 3 on a Solaris 8 server in order to publish some local queues to a few Windows users -- but no file sharing. Is it as simple as configure; make; make install and then share out a few queues? I'd like to add password protection to these pinters, but I can't decide on whether to hand off all authentication to our Active Directory server or just to use one shared

Edit permission request + wiki tagging proposal
Please make me a wiki editor. I want to create my personal home page. I'd like some feedback on an idea. I apologize for my verbosity. Cut it to shreds. Thanks in advance! TL;DR: Gradually tag the CentOS wiki with <div>'s indicating status with respect to content migration to website2. Assumptions: - Large amounts of existing wiki text will eventually migrate

sudo 1.6.9 versus sudo 1.7.2 behavioral differences with umask settings
Two servers, each have normal user umask values of 0077 and root umask values on 0022. On the first server (CentOS 5.4 i386) running sudo 1.6.9pl7-5 (from base), here are the results of touching a file as a user, as root and as a user sudoing to root: user: touch file - result is 600 root: touch file - result is 644 user: sudo touch file - result is 644 On the second server (CentOS x86-64)

error in arfima...
Dear Martin, Sad that the bug is beyond your ken... Fortunately, the error happens only rarely...The length of LYGH was 719 and there were only two such errors..I will just replace them with NA and make do. By the by, what if I send LYGH as an attachment to your actual mail ( not the r-help mail)? Will it help? Can you then pinpoint the cause? Or should I raise a bug

REML - quasipoisson
hi I'm puzzled as to the relation between the REML score computed by gam and the formula (4) on p.4 here: http://opus.bath.ac.uk/22707/1/Wood_JRSSB_2011_73_1_3.pdf I'm ok with this for poisson, or for quasipoisson when phi=1. However, when phi differs from 1, I'm stuck. #simulate some data library(mgcv) set.seed(1) x1<-runif(500) x2<-rnorm(500)

Inspecting VMware OVFs
Hi, Maybe this is just a newbie question. I am trying to inspect VMware images with guestfish. I am running Fedora 15 in a VSphere VM. Once Fedora is installed I do: yum update yum install '*guestf*' Then I run guesfish on a copy of a Fedora 15 disk. guestfish -rw -I -a Fedora15-2-disk1.vmdk with the following result: libguestfs: error: unexpected end of file

Improvement of [dpq]wilcox functions
Hi, I believe I have significantly improved [dpq]wilcox functions by implementing Harding's algorithm: Harding, E.F. (1984): An Efficient, Minimal-storage Procedure for Calculating the Mann-Whitney U, Generalized U and Similar Distributions, App. Statist., 33, 1-6 Results on my computer show (against R-2.9.1): > system.time( dwilcox( 800, 800, 80) ) user system elapsed 0.240

general protection and other errors
Hi, I'm having a problem with a fedora15 x86_64 host with a fedora15 x86_64 guest on a Xeon E3-1240 with 8GB RAM on the guest. This is the only guest. The server is configured as a mail server, using spamassassin, postfix, amavisd, and clamav. It was previously running without error on different hardware. I migrated the disks to a more powerful server due to load. It's a new server, and

general protection errors
Hi, Some time ago I sent a message about some general protection errors, and didn't receive a response. I hoped I could post again and that someone might have some ideas. I really don't think it is a hardware problem producing these errors, but am otherwise out of ideas. I'm having a problem with a fedora15 x86_64 host with a fedora15 x86_64 guest on a Xeon E3-1240 with 8GB RAM on

unstable corner of parameter space for qbeta?
I've discovered an infelicity (I guess) in qbeta(): it's not a bug, since there's a clear warning about lack of convergence of the numerical algorithm ("full precision may not have been achieved"). I can work around this, but I'm curious why it happens and whether there's a better workaround -- it doesn't seem to be in a particularly extreme corner of parameter

Apache Not Serving, But Is Serving?
Hi; I installed yum install mod_python and all went well. So I thought it would be appropriate to reboot apache apachectl -k restart and it appeared well but the pages don't load (they hang). Nevertheless, # ps wax|grep httpd 12179 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd 17698 ? Z 0:00 [httpd] <defunct> 17703 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep httpd So what gives? Please advise. Victor
