roaming profiles - one file can't be copied to server
Hi, i have a Ubuntu x64 10.04 Server. Samba configured as PDC. Since today i experience that roaming prfiles can't copy one file to the server and shout an error message. It's no specific file, mostly its one in my Thunderbird Profile. Does anybody know what could this cause to happen? My smb.conf: [global] printing = bsd netbios name = PDC server string = PDC (%h)

PDC and BDC: how to sync profiles
I was wondering how people sync the roaming profiles in an environment with a PDC and multiple BDCs. Are profiles better stored in another server (a member server) instead of the xDC? I could use rsync from the PDC to the BDC, but that doesn't work the other way around, i.e., when a user logs in via a BDC whatever changes they make won't go back to the PDC. Unless the profile is: - always

PDC and BDC load-balancing
Hi there, I would like to know how Samba / Windows determines which domain controller should handle a logon request, and whether there is a way I can affect the process. Here's the situation: I have a school installation running a Samba domain, with a PDC (1.1GHz Celeron, 256 MB RAM) and one BDC (much smaller, 366 with 64 MB RAM), both with RedHat 7.1 and Samba 2.2.5. There are about 80

Plea for Help with Slow Roaming Profiles
I've posted a couple of times about this problem. This is a plea for help with Roaming Profile configuration. The short problem is that logging on and logging off takes about ten minutes, with a fresh roaming profile (~1MB), on a 100Mb LAN. If anyone has any suggestions or pointers or questions, *please* pipe up. I'm all out of ideas.

Idmap + LDAP + winbind: our first BDC - doubts about idmap ranges and winbbindd + Idmap dn
Hi, My doubt is about Idmap + LDAP + winbind, related do BDC + PDC. We are using Samba 3.0.33 (Slackware 12.0.0). Our layout is almost like this one http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/images/chap6-net.png, but we have more BLDGn than this example. Actually, we are taking ideas from http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html and from

roaming profiles stored on BDCs? how?
I have a PDC named GOMER w/ IP of 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG2 w/ ip of 10.8.7.2. when someone on the 10.8.7.x network using the WINS server of 10.8.7.2 logs in and out, their roaming profile is stored on the PDC. is there any way to have the roaming profile stored on the BDC?, because I will have other 10.8.x.x networks and some of these remote sites will be using DSL and I don't

will BDC work if PDC crashes?
Hello, Will BDC work if PDC crashes or there is no connectivity between them? I assume that the servers are storing users / passwords in LDAP database; both BDC and PDC have LDAP running locally (changes in PDC are replicated to BDC). Will users be able to log into the domain / use roaming profiles with no PDC (as it crashed or link was broken), when only BDC is running? Tomek

Samba PDC adding new user, profile dir is not created
Hi, i have a Samba PDC (no LDAP) and added add user script to my config. I can create the user with no problems, login is possible but the /home/samba/profile/user dir is not created. Any hints on that? script commands i added: add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -m '%u' -g ntusers -G ntusers -s /bin/false delete user script = /usr/sbin/userdel -r '%u' add group script =

PDC & file server on same machine?
How much of a resource hog is a PDC? My understanding is that authentication is done vs a BDC if available. I configured my new file server as the domain PDC because I figured it would already have to run samba. I have two other machines configured as BDCs to serve as logon servers. I'm looking for opinions on whether I'm asking for performance problems by making my file server the

PDC, BDCs - how do you synchronize roaming profiles?
Hello, I'm about to deploy Samba PDC and several BDCs. As far as I understand Samba and domain logons, this means that a user will be able to log onto any server, with his workstation choosing a domain controller that is probably the closest/fastest etc. one. As a consequence, this also means, that on each server there has to be a copy of a profile of a given user, right? If so, how can

PDC/BDC Domain Logins Samba 2.2.7
We're about to start migrating from Windows NT 4.0 to a Samba controlled setup. I've got a question about the functionality of the Samba PDCs and BDCs. In my Windows setup I have three domains that are defined by geographic locations. Each of these domains "trusts" the other. In Samba 2.2.7, I can't have the trusts, so I'm looking at creating one giant domain that

NT4 machine trust breaks on a Samba-BDC
Hello all, We have Samba (2.2.5) running on three servers, each in a different subnet. One of them is a PDC (domain master = yes). The Samba PDC is also the NIS master. The smbpasswd is replicated using rsync to the other machines that act as Samba BDCs (domain master = no). They are also NIS slave servers. The smbpasswd synchronization takes place automatically every time smbpasswd is updated,

Unable to change Windows password on Samba BDC
Dear Help, We are currently running Samba 3.0.22 on a distributed network/domain as a PDC (primary domain controller) and several as BDCs (Backup domain controllers) in our branch offices located around the country. At this point, the PDC is set up in our corporate office (where I'm located) and users have no trouble authenticating (via logging into windows and accessing shares) and also

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs. For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly. But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

store profiles on a third server
hello all, I am building a network system using Samba 3.5 on Debian Squeeze and Windows 2003 workstations. I have properly configured my samba PDC, and that's working correctly. I am using an external LDAP to store the credentials. I also wanted to use roaming profiles, and I have properly configured this. That's working well for me, using Windows 2003 work stations. I'll soon

since i added second DC i have some trouble
Hi, i provisioned a domain and all went well, until i added the second dc.... for example: the new DC2 tells me: getfacl /usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol # file: usr/local/samba/var/locks/sysvol # owner: root # group: BUILTIN\134administrators user::rwx user:root:rwx user:BUILTIN\134administrators:rwx user:BUILTIN\134users:r-x user:ELEMAY\134guest:rwx user:ELEMAY\134domain\040guests:r-x
