PAM authentication with winbind and AD
All, After two days of googling, reading, swearing and cursing, I am finally admitting I cannot solve this one. I have three production FreeBSD servers running various network utilities (DHCP, bacula, zabix, syslog, rsync). These have been running fine for several years. As a primary Windows domain (accounting firm. Not much choice), I like to centralize all logins into AD which is currently

cannot restart winbindd
Hi, I try to setup a Ubuntu 8.10 workstation to connect to an active directory on a Windows Server 2003. I follow the howto at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ac...ryWinbindHowto<https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto> Unfortunately, winbindd stopped working after I configured smb.conf. smbd and nmbd are still running. I include smb.conf and log.winbindd hoping it

BDC constantly rebinds to master ldap server causing browsing delay
Hello, I seem to be having an issue where one of my BDC servers constantly needs to rebind to the "master" ldap server (ldap1.ae-solutions.com). Whenever this happens I see several entries in the log like this: "smbldap_search_ext: waiting 928 milliseconds for LDAP replication." It appears to cause delay when browsing samba shares whenever this happens. The master

[META] suggestions for managing users desktops
Hi, Sorry if this is slightly OT. I have just moved from a WindowNT domain to a Samba3x PDC. What I'd really like now is some tools to help me manage users. Some of the things on my wish list are to be able to edit a remote registry (the user's profiles are local) and Remote desktop access so I do not have to run over their desks every time there is a message they don't understand.

Fwd: A default profile
Hi, I am not using roaming profiles, but there is a feature in NT 4 where you store a 'Default User' profile under the C:\winnt\system32\repel\import\scripts\. When a user logins into the Doman for the first time, they get a copy of that profile. I have tried having a copy of the same profile to both the netlogon share and the profiles share on my Samba PDC but the profile does not get

Single sign on nivana
Hi, I have Samba 3.5.6 that is running as a PDC for testing purposes. In my production environment I still use a NT4 domain and all the samba member server use domain security. One of the irritations I have with the Samba members set-up is that I have to add the users to the local server so that files created by a domain user are owned by them and not the guest account. Ideally I would like to

Fwd: getent group fails - fixed
Found it. It turns out that the config file for libnss-ldap is /etc/libnss-ldap.conf on my distro (Debian). So NSS was ignoring the config that I had been in /etc/ldap/ldap.conf and taking it from /etc/libnss-ldap.conf. The former had this "nss_base_group ou=Groups,dc=example,dc=co,dc=uk?sub" and the latter this nss_base_group ou=group,dc=example,dc=co,dc=uk?one. Once I edited group to

winbindd: Exceeding 200 client connections, no idle connection found
Hello! This is my first email to the Samba mailing list :) We have been having an issue on our servers where the winbind service begins to utilize 100%~ CPU and logs the following error: *winbindd: Exceeding 200 client connections, no idle connection found* We have been running Samba *3.6.3-0.52.5*, however when originally investigating the problem, it was found that *3.6.3-0.58.1* included a
