Password Change from Windows machines ("You do not have permission to change your password")
Hello,
I just wasted several hours trying to figure out why I could not
change Samba passwords from Windows XP computers. I'm posting here so
that there is some form of documentation about this on the web.
My setup is basically this:
- Samba 3.3.2 (running under Ubuntu 9.04)
- OpenLDAP user database
- Full O.S. support for OpenLDAP auth, using nsswitch and PAM.

Hi
I have a bunch of FreeNAS servers and a TrueNAS HA server all spamming
the logs with these messages every minute about their own source name
(examples below).
These boxes are on two physically separate networks, and I find it
unlikely both networks should have some sort of undetected loop. Any
ideas on how to debug this? Samba version is 4.1.18.

Samba / Lucid / Windows 7 problem

I'm running a Samba PDC on Ubuntu Lucid (3.4.7) and am unable to join
Windows 7 machines to the domain. I have applied the registry changes
described at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7
Windows XP machines can join with no problems.

samba 3.0.4 on SLES8: password sync will not work...(decode_pw_buffer: incorrect password length)
Has anyone got unix password sync for samba3.0.x running successfully on
SLES8 server? Do I need the SLES service packs? Is there an
interaction with PAM that I need to be aware of?
I've compiled the full developer build of samba from 3.0.4-4 source.
Compile was successful. I'm running tdbsam as password backend. I've
troubleshooted quit a bit using google, docs, etc. as

Samba3 + LDAP - w2k says it couldn't change password (but it did)
Hello,
I have a following test environment:
1) Samba PDC + OpenLDAP Slave (192.168.1.2)
2) OpenLDAP Master (192.168.1.1).
Whatever is changed/added on the Master, it gets replicated to Slave.
Now, when a user is logged in, and tries to change the password - he/she must supply the old password, and twice new one (normal behaviour).
After pressing OK the user is said that the password

Hi,
I just upgraded my server to support Windows 7 and so installed Samba
3.5.4 from 3.2.5. OS is Debian Lenny.
Now my Windows XP clients cannot join the Domain.
When joining the Domain, I get a wrong password error on Windows. In
my samba logs it shows the following:

Problems with userPassword when it's base64 encoded
I'm switching from OpenLDAP to the newly released Fedora Directory
Server (formely known as the Netscape Directory Server) as a LDAP
backend for my Samba domain.
I'm now faced with a problem regarding how Fedora DS handles the
userPassword field.
Unlike OpenLDAP it encodes it in base64 so instead of reading
userPassword: {SSHA}0lP+r3Z1NVan7Caf4CG9oSgnTbQRrv/p
it reads:

3.0.1rc2 LDAP - problems joining domain
Hi,
I'm back on the list ;-)
I seem to be having some trouble getting W2K machines to join the domain in
3.0.1rc2. I haven't looked at this in detail since 2.2.8a but it looks like
the account gets created in LDAP and then it has trouble setting the password
appropriately. I believe this is the relevant part of the log:

Hello,
I have problems connecting notebooks over wireless LAN to Samba 2.2.3a. I
don't know, wether this is a problem about wireless LAN or a problem about
subnetting (or an other reason). I use Windows 2000 at the notebook (first
without service packs, then with service pack 2, but it
don't solve the problems).

I am attempting to join a Centos7 machine to a Samba NT4 domain. I have
created an account on our OpenLDAP server and ensured it has the default

error.

Problem joing a W2KSP1 client to a Samba PDC (2.2.5).
Hi,
I'am running a small samba server at work with 10+ users in the domain (all
of them added with W2KSP1 and 2.2.3 or 2.2.4). I uppgraded to 2.2.5 a while
back and has not experienced any problem with it, but when I try to add a
newly installed W2KSP1 client to the domain I get the following entries in
the log file:

decode_pw_buffer: incorrect password length
Dear list,
I have a pretty small samba setup with one samba server acting as PDC
and 6 pretty diverse clients. I had no problem joining two win98 clients
and one XP client and two win2000 clients to the domain. There is only
one win2000 client which I simply can't join. In the samba logs I find
decode_pw_buffer: incorrect password length
whenever I try to join this PC using the root user.

Getting Windows XP drivers from print$
Hi list
I have two very similar printers set up on CUPS and Samba is configured
to share the drivers. I had been playing around with setting up a RAW
printer queue with native Windows drivers but eventually gave up on
that. I deleted all printers and redid them from scratch and now only
one of them works.
Setup:
Ubuntu Karmic 2.6.31-15-server #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 15:50:36 UTC
