sub-directory permissions and active directory group membership
I'm not sure where the problem is, but security group membership and access to sub-directories is giving me fits. Take 2 unique security groups as example, group1 and group2. If within my top level share there is a directory labeled marketing and a second directory labeled legal, where group1 and group2 are assigned to marketing and legal respectively, then the group1 members should not

parent vs child directory permissions problem
I run FreeBSD 4.6-RELEASE (GENERIC) with samba-2.2.4_1 installed. my workstations all run windows xp home or pro with SP2. We're on a workgroup, not a domain. Lately I've been having a problem with changing rights on subfolders. this is my directory structure drwxrwx--- 53 root allstaff 2048 Jun 2 08:19 topdirectory drwxrwx--- 4 Jack group1 512 May 23 13:10

Permissions in shared folders
Hi, On my mail server I want to implement shared folders for each workgroup where there are many workgroups. One way would be to create a separate namespace for each workgroup. However, this does not scale well so I decided to use a single Shared mailbox and use ACLs: namespace public { separator = . prefix = Shared. location = maildir:/var/mail/shared:CONTROL=~/Maildir/shared } Each

AD shares in samba & permissions
Hi, I have a redhat 6.5 with samba 3.6.9 and a working AD integration. I used the redhat guide to create a share, but it's only working partly. Ie the second group of valid users I add after the comma doesn't have access to the share. You get a popup like access DENIED. /var/log/samba/log.accessmachine shows the same error NT_ACCESS_DENIED. I think it's due to the fact that

Permissions in printer share
Hi everyone, I'm trying to migrate my print server to Samba. All is working well except security. In my domain, some groups are able to print to certain printers and others to other printers. I tried with "write list = @group" but it doesn't worked. How do I configure the permissions on samba's printers, for a user group can print to only certain printers? Here is my

ACL group permissions only work on primary group (RickSegeberg)
I appreciate your response and I tried your solution. However, it does not seem to help. I am using MS Active Directory on a Windows 2000 server for the authentication and rights for the users. I realize AD is based on LDAP, but it's been changed to suit Microsoft's needs - meaning it's not "pure ldap". Based on what you said, I made sure to create a user and a few groups

Share permission problem if user is member in more than 16 groups on AD
Hi! Running OpenSolaris snv_134 with Samba 3.0.37. Samba is successfully joined to AD domain. AD user "user1" is member in 17 AD groups including "group1", but he cannot access Samba share which have read permissions for "group1". If user account is modified and "group1" becomes users primary group, then he can access shares. If user is member of only

Group Permissions Not Working
Test 1: User User1 is a member of group Group1. Group1 has R-X rights to the shared folder SITES. When User1 connects to the server over SMB he sees SITES but when he tries to access it he gets access denied. Logs for the attempt show “chdir (/srv/SITES) failed, reason: Permission denied” Test 2: The same user can connect to the server over SSH and access the folder according to the group

Two Permissions Issues: null session shares and group membership
I have Samba 3.0.25rc3 running on OpenSolaris build 67. Samba is integrated with our Active Directory via Kerberos. I do not have nsswitch running with winbind at this time. Issue #1: Samba denies access to a share set up with "public = yes" when accessed by an AD integrated user account. The share is defined as follows: [open] comment = Null Session Share path =

Questions about dovecot-shared in 1.2 and inherit group membership from parent mailbox
Hi, I read the Wiki about dovecot-shared a few times but it is not 100% clear to me (at least for 1.2). First, if I want shared keywords I *must* have a dovecot-shared. In this case, the permissions are not taken any longer from the parent folder (what is exactly this parent folder?) but from the dovecot-shared file. So in some sense dovecot-shared is always required (since everyone would

File Permissions. Two unix groups having write access to the same share without 0777
I'm using samba 3.0.1pre3 as fileserver for my windows clients (xp and 98) My users are separated in many groups and some dirs should be writeable for 2 groups at once. Unix permissions does not allow to have 2 groups for a directory or file. I could put 777 in the directory and force umasks, but that really anoys me. So I did a little workaround to make it work and now I wonder if it is

File permissions: system groups for do not work for group/shared mailboxes
Hello! I am struggling to set up a group mailbox for users of a certain system group. I want to grant access to the mailbox on a filesystem mode by using the system groups. The problem, the set up works fine and when I use setfacl and grant permissions too each user manually, it works fine. However, I want to use a system user's group membership in order to grant access to these mailboxes

subdirectories with different permissions
Several users keep asking for a similar setup, and I'm wondering if there's a way to achieve it with a single samba share. They'll ask for a single share drive the has multiple subdirectories with each subdirectory having different permissions based on groups. So say you have a share called COLOURS and inside that share are three subdirectories, RED, GREEN and BLUE. Group1
