Building Samba 3.5.9 on Solaris 10
I wanted to build samba with CUPS and LDAP support, and put it into a
location from where it can be automounted by other systems. There were a
few gotchas I solved the hard way, to save anyone else's time, this is
what I did.
C compiler I used is Sun's Studio.
Solaris sed behaves differently to Sunfreeware sed

python-rpy DEB broken - but hopefully easy to fix
Hi CRAN people,
There is an issue with python-rpy on Ubuntu, when installed from the
CRAN repository. (I read the info on
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ and saw the note that this
package is experimental but you are happy to receive feedback on it.)
After adding the appropriate CRAN repo:
% sudo apt-get install python-rpy
[ ... installs various dependencies ... ]
% echo import rpy |

Ubuntu cran2deb PPA
Dear Michael,
I was looking up the status of the cran2deb effort and notice that you
now have a PPA where new packages are landing and being built for
Ubuntu. It looks like this is still a work in progress, but is already
a fantastic resource for me and I hope it is something that you can
continue to operate.
I'm now installing many of these packages but some things I need are
missing.

error bars
Dear Help
I'm new to R (from matlab)...using windows XP.
I've tried to work out, to no avail, 4 things:
1) rotating the numbers on axes...something to do with par(str) ??
2) how to close a window having opened one e.g. windows(7,7)
3) how to manipulate the key (e.g. dots, lines etc) on the legend. Using pch just gives me the same key for all functions on a plot.

MANOVA with random factor
Dear All
I would need to perform a MANOVA with both fixed (group, sex, group*sex) and
random (brood) effects. I wonder if this is at all possible and if R does that.
At the moment, I only know that I can run a classic MANOVA with R.
Thank you
David

blues in c
G'Day,
I'm a little confused why the c function has the followng effect on
classes - is this a feature ? My workround [ class(cc) <- c("POSIXt",
"POSIXct") ] seems to do the job.
Many thanks

libwbclient vs. libwbclient-sssd
Can someone explain what libwbclient.so.0 does?
On Ubuntu 18.04, the libwbclient0 package is a dependency of cifs-utils
and anything winbind related. They also include a package called
libwbclient-ssd; the difference seems to most in the location of the
library?

missing symbols talloc_* (opensuse 11.4/samba 3.5.7-xxx)
I just recently upgraded to opensuse 11.4.
basic smbd is running mostly fine (some name res-errors, login server missing, (can't connect to Domain service). Notably nmbd won't start due
to undefined symbols:
/usr/sbin/nmbd: symbol lookup error: /usr/sbin/nmbd: undefined symbol: _talloc_realloc_array.
ldd -r shows a bunch of similar undefined symbols (shown further below).

Using MuMIn - error message
Hello,
I hope that you can bare with me. I am new to models, but I think I have a
pretty godd understanding of how to run them now, including how to use AICc
and Anova. The issue is that I have many factors that I wish to compare so
doing each one at a time would take forever.
I came across the MuMIn package and I was so excited, however I am getting
an error message and i don't know why.

Modified Bessel Function - 2nd kind
In order to fit a probability distribution proposed by Sichel [Journal of
the Royal Statistical Society. Series A (General), Vol. 137,
No. 1. (1974), pp. 25-34], I need a modified Bessel function of the 2nd
kind. I notice that the base package of "R" only has modified Bessel
functions of the 1st and 3rd kind. Does a modified Bessel function of the
2nd kind exist anywhere?

Logging enhancement
I would like to suggest a logging enhancement that would contribute
greatly to access auditing.
Currently nothing is logged when a user connects to another server as a
different user.
The auditing trail is broken for tracing access.

A simple syslog addition (for example) to ssh.c closes that gap.

[Announce] Samba 3.5.7, 3.4.12 and 3.3.15 Security Re leases Available
When I upgrade a major revision (3.4.x -> 3.5.x ), I always get a listing
from "testparm -v" before and after the upgrade to make sure that a
parameter (that I didn't specify in the config) didn't change it's default
setting.

nls.control: increasing number of iterations
Hello,
I'm using the nls function and would like to increase the number of
iterations. According to the documentation as well as other postings on
R-help, I've tried to do this using the "control" argument:
nls(y ~ SSfpl(x, A, B, xmid, scal), data=my.data,
control=nls.control(maxiter=200))
but no matter how much I increase "maxiter", I get the following error
