Samba 3.4.7 can't retrieve idmap infor from ldap
I am running Samba 3.4.7on Fedora Core 11 Linux. This is a domain member.
My PDC is Samba 3.4.9 on Solaris 10. I have LDAP as a backend
(Sun/Oracle Directory Server 6.) I have an OU for user accounts, and
an OU for idmap entries. The PDC has already populated some idmap entries.
An idmap entry looks like
dn: sambaSID=S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-1121,ou=mydomain,ou
=idmap,o=mycomany.com

Where is the winbindd_idmap.tdb?
Hi, All

IDMAP, WINBIND and NIS
I have posted on this subject before but am still running into
problems. The main question is whether I need to use Windbind in a
single samba domain when each samba server also uses NIS for
centralized unix level authentication. And if, in fact, I need
windbind do I need it on all the samba servers? And do I need a
central IDMAP respositoryor other mechanism to maintain consident
SIDs?

Is ldap running on the computer you are trying to run the classicupgrade
on ?
It needs to connect to the ldap server, so if the ldap server is running
on another computer, you need to use either the FQDN of that computer or
its ipaddress.

samba idmap mystery
Hi:
I have a samba dc and a samba member file server.
I use rfc2307 id mapping and posix acl share for windows/linux
client for many years. they are simple and work fine. however in older
versions of samba (maybe 5 years ago). sometimes after I create a user
account at samba dc, the member file server can not recognize it (eg:
"getent passwd xxxx" or "id xxxx" return

AD groups mapped to wrong GIDs
Hi list,
I need some help getting group mapping to work:
We've got a fileserver serving Linux clients via NFS.
NSS source for users and groups is LDAP (sssd).
nsswitch.conf:
[...]
passwd: compat sss
group: compat sss
shadow: compat sss
[...]
So far, this works quite well since years.
Now I tried to have our content served via Samba for our Windows
clients.

Status of LDAPS port 636 with Winbind idmap backend ad in 2024?
Dear Samba community,
We run two Samba server in a CTDB cluster in a small group withing a bigger company.
We use Winbind to authenicate and authorize against a company-wide active directory
(using `security = ads` and `idmap config OURDOMAIN : backend = ad`, resp., among others).
So, if I understand this correctly authentication is done via Kerberos and authorization via LDAP.
Unfortunately (but

Then why can the upgrade not contact the ldap server ?
Was ldap running on another computer before ?
Can you post the smb.conf from the old PDC ? the one you are trying to
upgrade from.

Results of net idmap dump don't match input to net idmap restore
Greetings,
I'm trying to pre-populate a Samba winbindd idmap database with some fixed entries. But the output from "net idmap dump" does not match up to the input to a "net idmap restore" command.
Here's an example sequence.
-------------
#
# wc -l /tmp/usermapper.tmp
1218 /tmp/usermapper.tmp
# head -3 /tmp/usermapper.tmp
UID 100001

Import idmap database error on classicupgrade process
You're right, man! Sorry! My mistake!
I put that file because I read in somewhere about the persistent and
temporary files regarding .tdb files. The winbindd_idamp.tbm was on that
list, and I think that's why I left it in the folder. :D
Another doubt. For the provisioning starts, I had to comment out the line
referring to the ldap backend in the smb.conf of samba3.

I copied all the database files of samba3 as is mentioned in the wiki - The

But if the winbindd_idmap.tdb file is in the folder, the errors occur. See

Install oVirt in fc11/fc12
Hi.
Show you how to install oVirt in FC11/FC12? I acted on instructions
http://ovirt.et.redhat.com/install-instructions.html, but there were
problems with the versions of the module locale (requires 2.0.4 and
installed 2.0.5).

Migrating winbindd_idmap.tdb to ldap idmap backend
We're using s. 2.2.8a in conjunction with a win2k dc. For uid/gid-mapping we
use winbindd. Now we plan the migration to samba 3. We have about 100 Users
and i don't want to rebuild the idmaps by hand. Is it possible to move the
winbindd_idmap.tdb to the ldap idmap backend?

Dear All,
I just updated from Fedora 9 to Fedora 11, kernel version
2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i586. I'm running R 2.9.
I successfully installed package Rstem from source (it always ran fine
for me in F9). However:

Pre-populating winbind idmap doesn't work.
Greetings,
(re-phrased posting)
In order to get CIFS and NFS interoperability in an EMC Celerra environment
I'm trying to pre-populate a Samba winbindd idmap database (/var/lib/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb) with some fixed entries. My thought was that a "net idmap restore" from a manually generated file should match the output from a subsequent "net idmap dump". But it does

Multiple Clients, Winbind and idmap in LDAP, documentation incorrect?
Hi!
I have a setup with several Linux machines running
samba-3.0.22-10.1.17 (from SuSE 10 OSS), authenticating against an
AD. Since one of the machines is exporting an NFS share mounted by
the rest of the machines, I need SID <-> uid/gid mapping to be shared
between all Linux machines, which led me into using an OpenLDAP server
as idmap backend. My smb.conf is found at the end of this mail.
