samba clients disconnecting
I am running the latest rev of Redhat ES with samba 3.0.9-1.3E.2. For reasons unknown, windows clients are intermittently unmapping drives. No network errors. I've been researching this problem around the internet, but nothing I've tried seems to work. I have another Redhat 9.0/samba server on the same network that's run for a year without issue. Please if you any suggestions,

All works except MS Office 2003 Pro navigation of win . shortcuts to shares
Hi, That 4. a.m. periodicity is logrotate restarting your samba in order to rotate it's logs... The "Processing section..." appears everytime a new smdb starts ( every new client connection to server, samba restarting, etc). If you want to force it, just restart your samba. Remember that windows caching may get in the way. So if you really want to be sure, restart also the Win

Samba 3.0.9 on RHEL 3.0
All, Smbpasswd -j DOMAIN is no longer the way to join a Windows domain instead one needs to use net join. However, net utility, although it's a part of Samba release, is not present on the system. Samba was installed using rpm packages. Here is what's on the system: samba-3.0.9-1.3E.1 samba-common-3.0.9-1.3E.1 samba-swat-3.0.9-1.3E.1 Any thoughts? Thanks, Jarek

Replacing a WinNT 4.0 PDC with SAMBA
Dear colleagues, I?m trying to replace an NT 4.0 PDC with a Samba 3 RedHat Enterprise Server. Following some instructions on the web I get almost everything (users, groups) using the "net vampire" command. The shares are working and it seems to be working fine. The problem is when I shutdown the Windows PDC and promote the Samba Server to "domain master = yes" because the

Problem with Samba and Windows Terminal Server 2008
Hello all, We have a Windows 2008 Terminal Server which people connect into to run their programs. We are getting upwards of 60 people connecting in at any time. We are seeing error messages from the application complaining that it can't access one of the files on one of the shares. I have read that this problem is likely to be due to the fact that we run one machine as a terminal server and

Samba, 20.000 users and concurrent logons: part 2
Hello, I wanted to let you know that I'm able to succesfully work with 20000 users and several concurrent logon sessions. Instead of using /etc/smbpasswd or /etc/passwd, I chose to use /var/db/password.db. I created this file using the makefile which is located in the /var/db directory. I suppose this is an indexed version of /etc/passwd and works a lot faster than the regular flat file. Also
