krb5 library issues when Compiling 3.5.2 and 3.4.7 on AIX 5.3
I have been trying to configure/compile Samba 3.5.2 and 3.4.7 on AIX 5.3 with ML-11 and ML-10. The configure issues that I am getting only occur if I use --with-ads. I can run configure on both versions if I do not include ADS support. The errors I get are: checking for krb5_principal_get_realm... no checking for krb5_princ_realm... no configure: WARNING: krb5_mk_req_extended not found in

Quota
Hi, On our servers we have configured an enviroment with LDAP + Samba + Quotas. Working properly for windows hosts in wich are configured shared homes. The same works on Linux hosts with only one exception, the homes are shared with NFS. Now because of security issues we have decided to use samba on both enviroments. And so came the problem: The users of the shares were informed of their quota

3.0.20 documentation bug
3.0.20 documentation bug: The smbclient's printmode command (which didn't actually do anything) has been removed in samba 3.0.20 but is still documented in the smbclient man page. -- Roger Cornelius rac@tenzing.org

Remote print problem
I am running Centos 4 and I am trying to use a printer on a Windows domain that is connected to a Windows XP Pro computer. If I do smbclient //ComputerName/PrinterName password -U UserName and then /> printmode text /> print /tmp/test.txt the printer works. However, if I setup the printer and check the CUPS printers.conf, it appears to be correct, but I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL when

HP560C
Hey, I'm using an HP560C printer on a Redhat 9 linux server and I can't get it to print. Using smbclient I can print a text page. Using smbclient I can find the printmode is graphical but when I try to print anything graphical it doesn't work. I copied my old smb.conf file from Redhat 8 and it had worked. I have tried changing printing = to cups but that didn't help. Yes my

AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter. Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this: ... PC-PRINTER:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\ :mx#0:\ :lp=/dev/null:\ :if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\ :sh: ... Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your manual. Now create the filter

smbclient, DFS and not_defined_in_RFC4178 [samba 3.4.7 and windows 2003 sp2 AND 2008 sp2]
Hi all, I'm trying to use DFS. Using smbclient 3.4.7 (distributed with Lucid) and windows servers with both 2008sp2 and 2003sp2. Smbclient successfully lookups up our DCC's. If the first in the DNS reply is a 2003 server it works but if I get a 2008 it doesn't. The main differences is that I get a "not_defined_in_RFC4178 at please_ignore" principal in the SMB Negotiate

Keep-timestamp-in-`get'-patch for smbclient in samba-2.0.3
-------- --Multipart_Thu_Apr__8_13:33:51_1999-1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Hello guys, I always wondered why smbclient keeps timestamp in `put'ting a file but does not keep it in `get'ting a file. Alternative to keep the time stamp in `get'ting file is to use -Tc option or smbtar script, but they are a bit hairy for interactive use, and it can only dump files with an

upgraded 3.0.28a-2 to 3.4.7-0.2, profile desktop configuration no longer saved
Upgraded a Samba server from 3.0.28a-2 to 3.4.7-0.2. Initially the XP workstations could not log on (not finding machine account) then discovered a new "passdb" variable, so added to smb.conf: passdb backend = smbpasswd and also changed all browseable -> browsable. Restarted the server. Domain logins worked. Test files saved to desktop are retained between logins (are stored in

Samba on top of Windows?
Hi all, I just bought a brand new PC for my living room (Asus eee Box) that happens to come with Windows 7. I can nicely plug in large USB hard drives, any my intention was to share these harddrives on the network, for example with my old Windows 98 PC on which I still run some favorite computer games. And of course, I would also like to access the large harddrive occasionally from my linux box

[quick question] smbclient -m smb2 not working
Greetings list, I just upgraded to samba 3.6.0 trying SMB2. Though Windows 2008 R2 can work with SMB2 shares just fine, I'm unable to access SMB2 shares with mount.cifs or smbclient, even with "-m smb2" specified -- I get this "Unrecognised protocol level smb2", whereas smbclient comes with samba-client-3.6.0-63.1.rpm. So is this supported yet (from client side) or I

difference between samba and smbclient
Hi list. I am wondering if I am running the right software to get my windows 7 shares mounted. could someone please tell me, what is the difference between samba, and smbclient? at the moment, I have samba and smbclient installed. I also have smbfs installed, though I understand this is deprecated, I just thought I might be able to get smbfs to work whereas I can't get samba, smbclient and

Access Samba from Windows 3.1
Hello, I'm maintaining for historical reasons a couple of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 installations. These run actually on Vmware. With the most recent version of Samba, I'm noticing that Microsoft Windows does not connect any more, and I get "authentication error". How do I need to configure Samba in order to connect to the latest Samba server again? Unfortunately, I

Permissions problem with Windows Vista / 7 clients, Debian Samba 3.4.7 server
I'm having a very strange permissions problem with Samba 3.4.7 (installed via backports.org) running on Debian Lenny: If a Windows 7 or Windows Vista client tries to use Windows Explorer to access a user's home directory with permissions 0700, the client gets a permission denied error. If the directory is made world readable, it works. (For one user, group readable also works. For

Samba 4 Bad password lockout
I have a question about bad password lockout. Net pwsettings has settings for Complexity, Password history Length, Minimum password length, Minimum password age, and Maximum password age. But I can not see how to set a bad password login attempts. Can this be set using a group profile? Getting ready to use samba 4 for authentication purposes but really do need this ability. Everything

win 7, samba 3.4.7, error 0x000003e6 with some printers
Hello, I'm testing windows 7 with samba 3.4.7 and I'm using PrintUIEntry to connect the printers. With some of those printers the connection fails (client side) with error 0x000003e6. The strange thing is that: 1) trying the same connection against samba 3.0.11 works (alas, no domain functionality with that old version) and 2) two of the failing printers share the same driver with
