Cannot browse domain user list with 3.3.9
Hi,
I am trying to upgrade Samba from 3.3.2 to 3.3.9 for Win7 compatibility
issue.
It is running on Redhat 9.0 (I've planned to upgrade to Centos 5.5 in a
second setp) and without any ldap backend (tdbsam actually).
As I have already done in the past for upgrading, I have done the following
procedure :
1) Compile 3.3.9 . My configure option are :
./configure --with-acl-support

Hi Moray,
?
Thanks for your answer. It could help but only partially.
?
The script name logon%u.cmd was a bad example. Actually, a user can log on from WinXP , or Win 7 workstations, and I'like to run different logon scripts depending on the OS . So having logon script = logon%a.cmd in the smb.conf generally works thanks to variable substitution.

But for user accounts that have been

Acces denied with usrmgr.exe
Hi
I am trying to use usrmgr.exe in order to manage users and groups on my samba server PDC (passdb backend = tdbsam ) .
I have the following strange behavior of usrmgr.exe :
* when I launch usrmgr.exe from a user account that is part of the Domain Admins group or that explicitly has the
SeAddUsersPrivilege privilege, I can see the list of users and groups , and create a new user, BUT when I

macro characters with pdbedit ?
Hi,
I would like to change the Logon script name attributes of a samba user account to something like logon%u.cmd using pdbedit with the --script option. It does not work because the string logon%u.cmd is litteraly taken as the value, loosing the variable substitution at evaluation time. pdbedit -v output gives "Logon Script : logon%u.cmd" .?

Documentation bug? domadm privileges
Hello
I have been solving a problem how to make a nonroot user able to administer
the domain (add users, groups, modify them etc.) from Windows workstation
using usrmgr.exe
It looks like what is stated in Samba HOWTO collection as prerequisites
is not enough.
First I found Chapter 12 cxl "How to make Samba PDC users member of the Domain
Admins group" - made the nonroot user member of

User Manager
Using Suse ES9 SP2 with OpenLDAP backend with Samba 3.0.21pre I'm getting
the following error. "The stub received bad data Would you like to
administer another domain?" then User Manager closes when I select no. User
Manager seems to work in limited fashion if Low speed connection is
selected. This has worked fine until a few days ago and I have not made any
changes.
Thanks

Newbie samba3/smbldap-tools questions...
Hi all,
I have set up a test configuration with Samba 3.0.2a and ldapsam/nss on
FreeBSD 5.2.1, one PDC and two BDC's on different subnets. Most is now
humming along quite well and I need to get a grip on the administrative
side of it.
- Is it possible to use the NT4 usrmgr.exe to administer accounts? Have
people used to nothing but Windows who needs to add/delete users. I have
tried but

Samba-winbind 3.5.4 primary group is always domain users!!!???
Dear All,
I stepped over a strange issue today. I have one installation of samba
winbind 3.3.2 on a Ubuntu machine. Changing the primary unix group of a
user is updated immediately. On a newer samba 3.5.4 installation the
primary group is not updated at all. It always displays "domain users".
Is there a new setting for the smb.conf? Here is my smb.conf:

FW: upgrade issue
Fixed the network issue by removing the net udev rule, somehow that was
causing the network no to come up. Disabled iscsid since it's not needed and
added did echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs to fix the
megaraid issue.

Synchronizing multiple samba servers
Hi.
I have two servers located in two different time zones. I want to know if
there is a way to keep the shares synchronized. Right now what i thought
is to run rsync from Server A to Server B . However the issue is say Server
B has a new version of the file in server A and that should not be
overwritten but should be copied back to server A. How to go about this?

ldap sub groups and Samba
Hi,
I have a RHEL 5.6 server with samba3x-3.5.4-0.70 instaled, it acts as a PDC, it has OpenLDAP in the same server. Everything works fine, so far, the windows xp and windows 7 machines are inside the domain, and users from the ldap can log from their machines. The thing is that i am trying to create groups, so some users can administrate others users, but not all the users.
I know that samba

"usrmgr.exe" issues after upgrade samba
Hello,
After upgrade samba on my 64-bit RHEL4 server from version `3.0.31` to
`3.5.3` everything just works fine, but I only have issues with
`usrmgr.exe`.
Before upgrade, I could manage domain accounts with this utility. Now it say
"Access denied" after running without any detailed information.
I checked out samba logs and didn't found any errors related. How to get it

Kernel errors, resulting in system crashes
Hi Guys,
After a chat with some helpful people on Freenode I've included as much
information as I can think to about this error, if you need anything else
please don't hesitate to ask.
I run a webserver (remotely administered, no graphical user interface that
i know of - certainly not one running all the time) - in the past few days
this error has started to occur, the system dies and

Server migration
Hi all (and best wishes for the new year to everyone :-) )
I have currently a Samba 3.5.6 server that acts as a PDC and print Server,
with tdbsam backend, no LDAP at all.
In a very next future, I will have to migrate samba to a new server (a VM
actually).
This migration will have to be seamless for all users (more than 200 user
accounts with more than 200 PC in the domain).

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as
NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on
to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration
tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go
into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of
understanding of how the

I currently have samba version 3.0.23 installed using ldap as the
backend. I am experiencing the same problems as Holger Wesser mentioned
in his posting "USRMGR.exe not working properly". However, it appears
that the fix of creating the group mappings does not work. They appear
to be mapped correctly on my setup. My net groupmap list is:

Crontab problem
Hi,
I seem to have a problem with crontab. I am running CentOS 5.5. If I add my
bakup scripts into crontab they take very long to run. If I run my scripts
manually they run 100%. I have also tried vixiecron, same issue. Any ideas?
Thanks
Jenny
