Resize NPIV Block Device
I''m using Xen with SLES10 and am using NPIV to attach FC SAN disks to my domUs. I''ve resize one of the disks on my SAN and I''m wondering if there''s a way to force Xen to rescan/resize the block device without shutting down the domU or unmounting the volume. Thanks, Nick -------- This e-mail may contain confidential and privileged material for the sole use

Re: Error: Migration not permitted with assigned PCIdevice
We use Digi Serial-over-IP devices to pass through serial ports to domUs. We''ve had success with the Digi One SP, PortServer TS, and Passport devices. I currently use the Passport 48 for IP access to all of my serial consoles (Ethernet switches, RAID arrays, FC switches, etc.) as well as to pass through a modem to my HylaFAX server, which is in a Xen domU. -Nick >>> Federico

Easy way to replace gPXE ROM?
This may be a better question for the Xen-Devel list, but I''ll start here... Does anyone know if there is any easy way to replace the gPXE ROM with a newer version in Xen? Also, anyone know if there are any plans to have some sort of option in the domU config file to specify a boot rom? Looks like qemu-dm has an "-option-rom" option - is there any way in Xen to make use of

[XCP] iSCSI Install/Boot
I just ordered quite a few servers, and, without verifying ahead of time, ordered without hard drives planning to boot over iSCSI using the built-in network cards (NOT an iSCSI HBA). I''m wondering if anyone has tried (and hopefully succeeded) installing XCP to an iSCSI volume using a network card with iSCSI boot support and the software iSCSI initiator in XCP. Obviously I can order HDs

[XCP] Import Always Fails
I''m trying to contain my frustration...but I''m wondering if *anyone* has *ever* gotten the Import functionality to work in XCP? I''ve tried several times, and keep getting the same obnoxious and useless error that is absolutely no help to anyone: Failed to Import. I have made sure that the transfer VM is installed (View -> Show Hidden Objects, transfer VM is there),

[XCP] XCP NFS Root
So, a few days ago I asked about network/iSCSI booting XCP (dom0). Doesn''t seem like it''s something that very many people have done, since I didn''t get much response, so I decided to give it a shot myself. I was able to install a couple of CentOS 5 packages that help with network booting and get the system to boot off of NFS (can provide some more detail on that,

net ads join: Aborted
I'm having trouble getting a host to join an ADS domain/realm. I have smb.conf set correctly, with the workgroup, realm, and security = ads specified. However, when I try to join with the command: net ads join -U Administrator, I simple get the message "Aborted" and it does not join the domain. If I use the -d flag to enable debugging, I see the following toward the end of the

Windows 7 x64 + GPLPV: STOP 0x00000101
When trying to use the GPL PV drivers with Windows 7 x64 (and testsigning turned on), I get a BSOD with a STOP 0x00000101 error. There''s also an error at the top that says "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval." Is this STOP error related to the HPET or other timing adjustments for Xen? Any advice on things I should

Another WINS Question/Issue
As previously posted, I've migrated my WINS server over to Samba. I've run into one issue, and have one question, about WINS functionality: - The default expiration time for WINS entries is 6 days. For my client systems, this isn't a problem, as most of them reboot, renew DHCP leases, etc., often enough that they are forced to send WINS updates every day or so. However, I found

Samba + CUPS
I'm attempting to configure Samba with CUPS as a centralized print server. I've done this in the past - my current production server is running Samba 3.2.14. On my current production server, I have several users set up as either "admin users" or "print admin" users so that they can manage the drivers, etc., on the Samba server. In setting up my new server, I'm

Symlink Issue
I've recently upgraded a server and am having an issue with symlinks that used to work but are now broken. The links are on one of the filesystems shared by Samba, but point to directories on an NFS-mounted volume. The permissions and export on the NFS volume are such that both root and normal users on this Samba server can access the contents correctly. However, when I try to follow the

Re: Benchmarking GPL PV Drivers for Windows between0.9.11-pre13 and 0.10.0.69
Pasi, Thanks for putting that wiki page together for the dom0 kernels - it's something that has long been needed for pulling together information on those kernels. I know it's always a chore for me to find info on how to get/build a dom0 kernel if I don't like the one that's included with a distribution. Thanks! -Nick >>> On 2009/07/07 at 00:50, Pasi

Multiple Serial Port Passthrough in HVM domU
So, I made a mistake a bought four systems with the Intel Core i3 processors, without doing my homework to make sure that these systems actually supported VTd. Turns out there''s plenty of information out there indicating that the Core i3 processors do *not* support VTd. I was counting on VTd for two applications: Graphics Passthrough and passing through a PCIe 4-port serial card. Of

Re: First XEN install: Installing XEN in virtual machine? &Remote GUI for XEN? & etc.
1) No, not necessarily. Many VM systems (Parallels, VMware, even XEN HVMs) emulate Ring 0 access for the operating system running on top of it, so there isn''t any reason for direct hardware access. However, you really should grab some older or cheaper hardware and install Xen directly on the hardware - it will be very, very slow running inside parallels. 2) There really isn''t

Trying to Run OpenSolaris PV
Hey, everyone, I''m running Xen 3.2 (SLES10) and trying to get an OpenSolaris PV domU to run correctly. I''ve followed a couple of the instruction sets out on the Xen wiki and other folks blogs, but I''m running into an issue with the domU crashing. The OpenSolaris version is the latest development release - 5.11-0.128. The config looks like this:

HVM iSCSI Boot ROM
Microsoft has their "boot" version of their iSCSI software initiator. Apparently this still requires that the network card be iSCSI Boot "enabled." Intel seems to be the only obvious company out there supporting it on their Server adapters - I was wondering if there are any thoughts/plans on implementing iSCSI Boot functionality in the HVM Boot ROM? Or maybe there''s

Re: Can Xen boot a Linux OS already installed in a realpartition
Well, you have two options: 1) If your hardware supports VT, you can boot this in a Xen HVM domU (fully virtualized). To do this, you need to make sure that the initrd images in the Linux partition are set up correctly to support the PIIX IDE/ATA chipset and that your root and fstab entries use the correct device. 2) If you can install a Xen domU kernel into the Linux partition install, you can

Samba 3.0.37 with Windows Server 2008
I'm running Windows Server 2008 and trying to connect to Samba 3.0.37 on Opensolaris. The Samba system is a member of a Windows Server 2008-based Active Directory domain - it was able to join the domain just fine - and Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 can connect, but Windows Server 2008 SP2 cannot connect. The log file is posted below - I'm guessing the key is the
